We were under-seeded in a position of playing the best 1. Going up two put amazing pressure on them but didn't defeat them. We pulled it back together in the 5th to do that. Wins simply don't get better than that. EVER!

But the win over Texas showed the way!

I am still amazed and impressed this morning. Checked the press release at the Nebraska website. Several mentions of streaks snapped and the two following comments:

Texas A&M hit .275 in the match, the highest attack percentage by a Husker opponent in 2025. The Aggies were also the only team to have a higher attack percentage in a match than Nebraska in 2025.

Texas A&M also had 17 blocks, the most by a Husker opponent in 2025.

Watched the Nebraska presser after the match. On youtube. Read the comments on the page. Note that they were written AFTER the Aggies defeated the #1 ranked and undefeated Cornhuskers IN Lincoln.

"Embarrassing! To let a *hit team like texas am beat you is laughable."

Hmmmm, calling the Aggies a '*hit team' AFTER their awesome win ?? That's the 'laughable' part. But there are always wacko comments anywhere one is allowed to make comments AND the replies to the comment are pretty good.

In 2011, the Aggie women's basketball team "shocked the world" by beating heavily favored Baylor in the elite eight and made their first Final Four. They ended up winning two more games for the whole enchilada.

Let's hope for a repeat of history on the volleyball side this year.

was i the only one that thought the nebraska coach looked in above her paygrade ?

She was clearly shellshocked after the second set. I think I read she is new this year? Goes to show the value of facing real adversity before its all on the line

My two-year old learned the word "damn" (from me) during the fourth set. She started yelling it after every point...thankfully mom wasn't home at the time...I'm really hoping she forgets this overnight.

If "damn" is the only word she learned during all that, you're a much stronger man than me…

Reading through Nebraska media and fans comments they are "not making excuses but everyone had the flu."

She's been to the national finals the last two years… I think she knows what she is doing.

I can't find the game on-demand on ESPN's app - not under volleyball, nor if you search Texas A&M or Nebraska. Lol classic. Maybe it'll post after this re-air of the game that's live on espnU right now.

Based upon the commentators, search Nebraska vs. Victim. It should come up.

She took over earlier this year. Ah, I see, she was the coach at Louisville last year, my bad

Quote:

Nebraska native Dani Busboom Kelly was named the fourth head coach in program history on Jan. 29, 2025 by Nebraska Director of Athletics Troy Dannen.
Busboom Kelly succeeds her former coach and mentor, John Cook, who announced his retirement following the 2024 season after 25 seasons as Nebraska's head volleyball coach.
A Husker national champion player and assistant coach, Busboom Kelly spent the last eight years building Louisville into a national power. The Cardinals have reached two NCAA Championship matches, three NCAA Semifinals, five regional finals and have won four ACC titles.

She came from Louisville…where she went to the national finals the last two years.

Yes - I was thinking the same thing while watching. She looked like a fighter who had taken an unexpected, hard body-blow and wasn't sure she was going to recover.

I wouldn't go that far... But I wouldn't trade Morrison for any other college women's volleyball coach. He is elite.

Honestly, I think that is just what she looks like normally. She's a great coach and have never heard otherwise.

Not her, but some other coaches like t.u.'s look like they are bored to death and not even paying attention.

And they are all good coaches.

Ours... he thinks he's part of the rotation. Him wanting to jump into the dogpile was hilarious!

Her post game press conference seemed really odd to me, just no emotion and kind of just accepted it. Her repeating we maxed out and played with joy strikes me as odd. I wouldn't want to hear that if I just had a perfect season until this point.

For example after the tu game, Jamie said he felt disgusted and couldn't sleep or even gather himself to watch the SEC Championship knowing we could've been in there

Definitely reminded me of the Miracle movie. The russian coach just didn't know how to respond to adversity.

was thinking about it earlier

We were definitely not setting the middles much and during the match, I was commenting how Waak couldn't seem to locate the placement when she did. She did great with them in set 5 though.

But I was actually wondering if the gameplan just didn't give middle kills the priority. Our blocks however were absolutely dominant and maybe the key to the win. Middles jump literally every play either to block or hit. They jump and swing even when the ball isn't for them as a diversion.

Is it possible we were selling out on the block and wanted to conserve the energy for the middles? ICO had a magnificent game. While not her highest block numbers (like the Pitt and TCU games), it was very good against a team like NU. Even more so, Perkins actually outblocked ICO and she's usually much quieter though still a keep contributor.

I know our forum plus VT there were plenty of people screaming for us to set the middles.

We can maybe set the middles a bit more but honestly the pins were all doing great with some errors here and there.

everyone wants to set middles more and more because they have the highest hitting percentages usually but you have to be in system to do that AND know that if in system it gives the pins a higher chance to produce as well because they have to defend a potential middle attack

Hellmuth was productive yesterday on the pin...she has had some up and down at various times but she produced yesterday so we didnt have a rely on middle attack. And against that Nebraska offense I am glad the gameplan was to shut down their attack for our middles

We dont use our middles across the net like some teams do. The slide isnt used by us very much and neither is the 31. For that matter neither is the BRA option other than Lednicky with the D ball

I know I'm one who is always yelling to set the middles but go look at the stats from yesterday. Our middles had 22 total attacks in a 5 set match while Hellmuth has 41, Logan 56 and Stowers 52. Nebraska set their middles over 60 times. Both our middles are hitting over .400 for the year why not give them a few more swings. Also, I know the middles are not always available every set but 22 total attempts for 5 set is ridiculous IMO.

and yet with 40 extra swings for the middles Nebraska lost. More isnt always better.

and look at our number of blocks versus theirs. In my opinion (or maybe it's a fact), a block is better than a kill.
Wicked Good Ag

Ask most front row players what they prefer and almost all of them will say Block over a Kill

That said some kills are really really amazing

Looking at total pts earned,

Nebraska middles earned 24 pts overall. Ours earned 23.5. And I contend a block is more important than a kill.

So overall output, it's even but our blocking really screwed with their hitters' heads.

Some of the number disparity on MB attacks is that NE ran slides to their middles a lot more than us. We utilize our MBs less on the outside so they are getting less total attacks. Waak also focuses in when OOS on the pins which is typical but she will set the same side 3x in a rally in a row and IMO doesn't switch it up enough. But it is what it is and our Block was so tough we got in their heads and owned the net for much of the match.
