ok folks...coulda left it on the prediction thread but went ahead and posted a different discussion thread for the usual major championship discussion since we've been doing it for about 3 years now, and maybe a different title will bring more people into the discussion(at least I hope).

So the draw is out...what do we like and dislike?!


Isner v. baghdatis looks awesome early.

I like Maria to win the female side. The men are up for grabs....you've got Novak on his incredible run but with shoulder soreness and Rafa with blisters...

My boy is Roger so I'll say him, but I wouldn't be surprised if Murray finally breaks through this time.

Also, don't sell short JMDP...i know he hasn't had the greatest comeback year, but if he can put it together in a tournament, the hard court would be tough to beat him on.

Should be a lot of fun...

what do people think about Irene? Will it cause enough chaos to delay the start?

Well darn. The third set went pretty quickly, ending up at 6-1 in the loss. Great experience for those guys, though!

Golubev had Nadal on the ropes in the 2nd set, but Nadal fights off 7 set points and will now serve it out.

helluva performance by Winthrow and Sock. Knowles is a former world number 1 doubles player who still has some game.

This Golubev/Nadal match has been pretty entertaining. If Golubev could have won the important points, we'd be at a set all right now. But he's doing well to stay ahead here in the 3rd so far.

Serena apparently said that she wants the lineswoman from last year, that she told she was going to shove a f-ing ball down her f-ing throat, to APOLOGIZE...TO SERENA.

What the hell is wrong with her?????

I have lost any respect for her, not that I ever liked her. And ESPN worships her. What a joke.

She makes me sick, and her joke of a press conference where she was asked about the incident made me like her even less, and it just keeps going down from there.

Oh, and don't even get me started about the "toe injury" that miraculously allowed her to attend the Kardashian wedding. Pathetic.

always hated the williams sisters, but over the years Serena has been so utterly repulsive that I actually respect and like Venus a decent amount.

Roddick is frustrating to watch.

I don't care much anymore what Andy has to say. Yes, he's been a huge fixture in American tennis and sparked a ton of interest in the game, but he should have had multiple slams by now, and in my opinion, his game no longer can make up for his punk attitude.

I lost a ton of respect for him after watching him basically give up during the Davis Cup while Mardy Fish was playing his absolute heart out.

I know a lot of people feel differently, and I might get flamed for it, but that's alright.

hated listening to roddick in the interview.

Even if what he said was partially right, he's in no position to mock them after his underwhelming performances for years as the face of men's american tennis.

Another reason I always love watching Fed and Nadal win GS's. They are such professionals and such great ambassadors of the game.

You look at Andy Roddick and every time he's on the screen you see a seemingly entitled piece of crap who doesn't fully respect the sport that has made him millions and got him one of the finest wives in the world. He acts like it's a "chore" to handle media questions or do interviews and be the face of American tennis.

Annoys the ever-livin crap out of me.

Jeff & Austin will play their doubles match today at 10:00. Play against Cabal and former USC Farah.

Update: The guys got broken at 4-5 to lose the second set 6-4.

But it's been an amazing year for Austin and Jeff- they'll be greatly missed here in Aggieland!

I have a different perspective on Roddick. I am a fan but have been frustrated with him numerous times.

Roddick is an excellent player who just happened to have his best years during the reign of the 2 arguably best players ever. This is no excuse but I don't think 90% ot "top" players of all time would have had any better success against those two. If they peaked about 3 years earlier or later Roddick would have a lot more GS

And while Fed has been all class I think most people forget how much of a tool Nadal was earlier in his career. Even now his refusal to be the first to the line or out of the lockers is pretty pompous. He makes EVERBODY wait on him.

Don't get me wrong...all of Nadal's little "quirks(i'm being nice putting it that way)" annoy the crap out of me.

Federer is the ultimate gentleman. Nadal works his ass off and is always hunting to better his game and is also very classy...but I agree that he has dents in the armor. Many players get frustrated with how long he takes to serve, along with what you mentioned.

And while Rafa may have been a bit of a turd early, he definitely changed that part about him, while Roddick obviously still never has.

Yes he had horrible luck playing in the Fed/Nadal era, but I also think he had an arrogance and a sense of entitlement that always held him back from winning more GS's.

Also, as far as Nadal/Roddick is concerned...Nadal isn't american. We're american's watching the face of american men's tennis...so I'm going to hold him to a higher standard because he's from our country.

Roddick has passed way beyond the point of it being "cute" or a young thing, or humorous. Wish he'd man up.

Sharapova's double faults are just painful. They may not be the sole reason she just lost the match, but it's a HUGE factor.

WOW!! I was honestly not expecting Donald Young to be able to hold it together long enough to go deep in the 5th set. What a great win for him over Stan!!!
