Szabo wins tie break to go to third set. Vincent in third set also. Ags trail 3-2 now but appear to be seizing the momentum.

3-3. Match is on Shane Vinsant who is in a real third set dog fight.

Another disappointing postseason for Denton. Just can't get over the hump. This was a loaded team that won the SEC title. Cal was a middle of the pack team in the Pac 12 and took us out on our home court. Tough break with Vinsant getting cramps late but he should have been hydrated properly and had we won the doubles point it wouldn't have mattered anyway.

Very disappointing loss. Cal came out red hot and we didn't. Ags fought hard to get back in the match but in the end it was not enough. Congrats to Cal.

Sad day for the men. Lots of fight just not enough points. Feel real sorry for Shane. Question was asked about ladies lineup. One thing is certain, Howard's recruiting for next year has not concluded. He has one girl from Astonia on paper, he made that announcement at the last "halftime" of the season. Paula is probably through with her Aggie playing career. Another announcement from Howard is that Paula's shoulder had surgery last summer and the rehab just never took full lasting effect. It's not from lack of trying on her part, she can still swing a racket but the grind of playing Division I tennis would be too much to bear. So Howard made the command decision for her to "help" the team. "May" get that scholarship back no final word. In Athens, if anybody stumps their toe hard, Mason will have to pick up the slack. Because even sadder news, as heard through the grapevine (don't know how reliable fourth hand is, but) that Jana McCord requested to leave the team. THAT scholarship we will get back. In any case, next year most likely we will have 3 freshmen again. Young, young, young. 3 Juniors, 3 Sophomores, and 3 Freshmen. Howard and Mark will have their work cut out for them next year on multiple levels, again!

Key number today was 1-0 Cal after doubles. All 3 were really close and Cal just made a few more plays than we did. Great comeback by Szabo. He found the Cal guys backhand and played to it. Very enthusiastic crowd. Actually had a line at the concession stand between singles and doubles.

Not a big surprise. I was reading the news release the other day and the post season has not been kind in the Denton years. There have been very few top quality wins in the NCAA tournament. This is one they should have won especially on our home courts. Disappointing end to a good season.

On the Cal website, their coach praised their training staff for keeping their players fit and hydrated. The writeup missed the part about Vinsant being hurt. If he cramped up then that is a legitimate question about our fitness.

Well our longhorn couldn't coach our Aggies to beat these guys, but I guarantee you the Texas Longhorns will take them down in a routine manner in the next round. Cal completely outplayed us for the majority of the match and then they tried to give us the match. What an embarrassing way to lose the match. Cal doesn't practice in the heat, humidity and also the wind like our guys and they were in much better shape than our guys. And that is the only reason they ended up winning in the end. Vinsant wins that match and the team moves on if he and the rest of the team is properly prepared. Once again Steve Denton underachieves. Sure they won the sec tourney after they choked the regular season, but this wasn't exactly a strong year in the conference. What a shame to end the year by losing in the second round on our home courts because the team wasn't properly prepared.

You obviously weren't watching it if you think Cal tried to hand us the match. Szabo threw everything he had at it to save that match. He was doing all sorts of different things to try to find a way, which he ultimately did. He almost broke the guy the service game before, he just kept his head and worked him over. It was terrible watching Vinsant when he was cramping. In the end though it was really losing the doubles point that killed us.

I completely disagree. Cal came up with big shots on big points and that just happens sometimes in doubles. To lose the deciding match due to conditioning is unacceptable for Texas A&M. Yes, I felt bad for Vinsant and I don't blame him at all. He is a young kid that needs to be conditioned properly in order to be able to compete in situations like these.

Denton is getting a reputation for failing in prime time. That is tough to overcome.

We were 1 of 3 teams to lose on their home court. #11 Duke lost to Tennessee, and Vanderbilt lost to #16 Columbia. Only 1 home team lost on the women's side; Northwestern lost to Notre Dame.
I go back to the doubles point. If we win that Vinsant's match would not have mattered. I was amazed he was able to hit the ball at all and actually scored some points while cramping up.

Very disappointing. I couldn't make it to the match because of Mothers day, but was following the live scoring online. Just when I thought we were finished we split on 2 and 6. I thought it was in the bag with Jordan cruising and when Shane broke and held to go up 3-1. I wouldn't have rather had anyone out there in that situation! It really is a shame...

Denton's teams have not excelled in the post season but as I recall Tim Cass's teams never made any deep runs into the tournament either.

The program needs to find a way to get over the hump.

So what do all of you bellyachers say when a football player hits the ground with cramps? Or any other athlete, for that matter? Fire the coach? Fire the training staff? **** happens, Vinsant suffered cramps at an inopportune time. But you really think the training staff didn't consider the conditions and how it might affect the players? Its amazing the vitriol that surfaces in defeat. And the stupidity.

+1 CPH Things happen, I have seen their conditioning and it is top notch. Come out and exert yourself at his level for that amount of time and see how long you go before you cramp.

Embarrassing home loss to a weaker team.

I have seen what they do on a day to day basis, and conditioning is not the problem, especially with Vinsant who is a hard worker. It looked like he was not quite right on the day and the conditions got to him. It happens. Unfortunately it just happened at the wrong time.

This is a bad loss regardless of who is to blame. Cal is a good team, but we were on our home courts with what seemed to be a team that could have gone deep into the tournament. Something needs to be done differently to get to the next level. As said earlier, the post season has been extremely poor. The win against tu last year was one of the best post season results if not the best under the Denton regime and tu was down last year. We won that by the skin of our teeth.

Yeah stuff happens with the Vinsant cramp but thats ignoring the fact that Withrow and Ore both got crushed and doubles did not convert on their chances.

Going to be an uphill battle after UNC won doubles. The deciding match went to a tie breaker and UNc won 9-7.

Absent a miracle, looks like the Ags season is coming to a 4-0 or 4-1 close.
