Edit: the USC runner tripped on her own leading to the contact with Alabama.

Was she tripped? Looks like she stumbled herself.

Fray had a phenomenal day to end her career at A&M. Won the 800 and then had a monster third leg on the 4x400 to propel us into the lead.

Thank you for posting. I've been in a crowded restaurant watching on my phone. Stepped outside for the last 2 legs. Didn't even realize A&M was in it until the announcers finally had to recognize us when we were in 3rd. No I can rewatch at Will!

Congratulations to the ladies! A 4th place finish overall propelled by the magnificent 4 x 400 victory.

Yep; fastest time in the world this year.

Good thing we ran from the front on the last two legs- might have been caught up in that mess with the Carolina- Alabama- Southern Cal wreck.

GREAT race overall.

Peace for Ukraine!

When i saw it happen, the Kentucky Derby flashed in front of me, but I realized we were so far from it, we were legit!

What a fantastic day for Fray. Anyone know what her split was? And Gittens is so tough. She was out in that brutally hot sun starting about 12:30 and competed in 4 events and ran the 800 7 seconds faster than at the SEC meet. 2 people helped to walk her off the track from the finish line to the south end where the competitors leave the track.

These were the splits I saw:

Leadoff leg 52.2
Reed 51.1
Fray 51.3
Richardson 50.8

When I saw the stumbling going on during the 3rd leg and spotted Arkie's Chadwick back there, I thought for sure she had something to do with it, as she has done several times. She was clean, however.

All Stones could talk about was Arky and sc while the Ags were blowing the field away.

Stones and his yapping was relevant to the final point totals and the team championship, but he almost completely forgot we won the event, with a tremendous effort by our women. I was a little pissy about what he didn't say.
Peace for Ukraine!

But that is kinda normal for most announcers; when the WBB team beat ND in 2011 the television feed clicked off with hardly an acknowledgment that TAMU had won the championship; it was more that ND had lost.
Peace for Ukraine!

I watched the replay countless times but just noticed:
(1). Ags win the race using a burnt orange baton; of course everybody else used burnt orange, but such poetic justice.
(2). When the USC girl dropped the baton she hesitated on the track for a few seconds; what the hell??!! Pick up the stick and get back in the race! That's unreal.
Peace for Ukraine!

A look to next year.

Women:
We return most of our point scorers except for Fray. Acquah also triple jumps so that's something to watch for next year. Lamara Distin is a 6' high jumper so she could contribute there. Amanda Hansson might be one who jumps over 21' next year. I wonder what Charokee Young will run next year. She can excel at the 400, 800 or 400H, but those races are all run in a row at nationals. I think she'll probably run the 800 and run a leg on the 4x4. Our short sprints should be weak again with Danyel White being our only potential scorer at nationals. Depending if anyone goes pro for Ark and USC, we might have a chance to win nationals.

Men:
Even though they didn't score this year, Wooten and Grant graduate along with other contributors in Izu, Deadmon, Hite, Thomas, Rose, Hardin. Jamal Walton redshirted this year and I except him to score next year in the 400. Lance Broome is someone who has potential to score at nationals. I think he just ran a 20.6 in the 200 this past week or so. Comick, Broome, and Walton is a good start for a 4x1 group. Dixon, Kyree Johnson, and Walton is a good core for the 4x4 relay. Maybe Turay or Ford will make up the 4th leg. Hard to see where we add 20 more points to be competitive. I hope Nool breaks out and vaults 18' that should give him a good scoring chance and we need a high jumper or 2 to develop as well.

I believe Deadmon and maybe Thomas have redshirted previously and both have another outdoor season remaining. Deadmon may have an Indoor and Outdoor season left.

If Petersson can find just a few more meters in the javelin he'll be a scoring threat.

It sounds hopeful for both men and women.

Question: It sounds like you can redshirt for either the indoor or outdoor season separately? Is that right? That sounds odd.
TRM

You're correct about Deadmon and Thomas having another year of eligibility.
TRM

Technically, they're different sports, so you can redshirt on or the other or both.

I think we can still compete for a championship next year on the women side based on our enormous talent and capability in the jumps but we need some consistency and big meet performances from our jumpers (long jump, triple jump and high jump). Still too many foul jumps. We need performances and consistency like Deborah Acquah. Most of our jumpers could have qualified and scored at NCAA if they near their personal best. We could have scored 25-30 points alone from our jumps. Hopefully next year with some consistency we can do very well in the jumps with all jumpers back.

Tyra Gittens
Long Jump PB 6.53m did not qualify for NCAA. Could have placed 5th at NCAA with her PB jump
High Jump Pb 1.87m qualified but did not scored. NCAA winner jumped 1.87m

Deborah Acquah
Long Jump PB 6.42 before NCAA and then broke school record at NCAA with 6.63m. Scored 6 points
Triple Jump PB 12.92 hasn't triple jump yet at A&M.
100 and 200m Big improvement in her sprint times (11.69 and 24.24)

Larjavia Brown
Triple Jump PB 13.58 qualified for NCAA but did not scored. Her PB could have placed 5th at NCAA
Long Jump PB 6.22 did not qualify for NCAA but could have qualify with this jump
High Jump PB 1.79 did not qualify for NCAA. A jump of 1.75 made it to NCAA and 1.79 could have made the finals

Ciynamon Stevenson
Triple Jump PB 13.36 and 13.96W - qualified for the NCAA and placed 7th. Could have placed in the top two
Long Jump PB 6.11W - could improve in 2020 and score

Kirby Matocha
High Jump 1.80m Did not make NCAA but could have qualified and make the finals

Virgina Kerley
Long Jump PB 6.06m (6.15mW). Did not make NCAA but could qualify in 2020

Taryn Milton
Long Jump PB 6.15m. Did not make NCAA but could have qualified

Ally Andress
High Jump Redshirt 2019 PB 1.73. Could be a potential scorer in 2020.
She may be doing the Heptathlon based on some of the events she has competed in unattached

Lamara Distin (Incoming Freshman)
High Jump PB 1.87m Could have won the NCAA high jump
Triple Jump PB 13.37 Could have place 7th at NCAA

Amanda Hansson (incoming Freshman)
Long Jump- PB 6.27 Could have made NCAA

I really liked the interview with Jazmine Fray before here race. A previous gave had her split in the relay. I thought it was faster because she went from 3rd to 1st in her leg. That was the way to close out her career here with 2 national championships.

It was a good interview, as were many of the interviews with the athletes. Which brings me to my opinion that the caliber of student is higher now as opposed to 30+ years ago when I was going through school. I ran here and now officiate and have marveled at how well spoken and intelligent 99% of the athletes participating in track are.

Even the high schoolers are considerate and thankful for their opportunities to run at a facility like A&M's. Gone are the days of the Tim Campbells, thankfully. I hear folks rip the younger generation but I am not worried.

Looking at next year on the men's side don't forget "internet star" Infinite Tucker (400 hurdles and 4X4) and look for good things from incoming frosh Andre Turay (110 hurdles) out of Maryland. Future looks bright!
