Day 2 Preview
https://flashresults.ncaa.com/Outdoor/2026/FirstRounds/West/index.htmToday it's all about the women of Aggie Track and Field (and one male field event lol), but what a day it was yesterday for our men! They came out and delivered. 4 Aggies punches their ticket to the national finals. The day began with Henry Zimmerman punching his ticket on his final attempt in the hammer throw. Then shortly after Khybah Dawson had a great jump that kept him in the hunt and ultimately able to punch his ticket. Both seniors qualified for the national outdoor meet for the first time of their careers. After delays, the men's javelin concluded just before midnight and saw two Aggies punch their tickets as well in Chinecherem Prosper Nnamdi or Zaza Nnamdi and Sam Hankins. Nnamdi lead the event and Hankins finished 11th. Both are making their 4th trip to the national finals.
Today we turn our attention to the women (and men's pole vault). Assuming no delays, it'll be the same exact events the men competed in today. In the women's hammer Jayla Hooper will kick things off for the women. Then our 3 javelin girls: Katelyn and McKenzie Fairchild, and Ana De La Garza. Katelyn and McKenzie are both ranked in the top 12 and should be in great shape to qualify, although the west is very strong in this event. The women's long jump will take place just as the running starts. Morgan Davis is ranked 4th in the region. Machaeda Linton hasn't competed in many long jumps this year, but she has potential to make some noise.
Because of rain, they moved the men's pole vault to today. So both the men's and women's event will be contested on the same day. I really hope our men can get multiple athletes in. On the women's side Lily Carlson is well off her indoor mark, but we know she's capable. Her and Ava Riche will need an outdoor PB to get through. Same for Carlie Weiser in the shot put who's ranked 28th.
Things kick off on the track at 6pm. Same events, same qualifying procedures as the men. We'll kick things off with the hurdles and Jaiya Covington. She should easily easily win her heat and advance to Saturday's quarterfinal. She's ranked 2nd in the region. We won't have anyone in the 1500, but we will have a large group in the 100. Camryn Dickson, Anya Jackson, Aysha Shaheed, and Jasmine Montgomery are ranked 5th, 22nd, 25th, and 26th. Dickson should easily get through and I want to see our other girls fight to get a spot into Saturday as well. Montgomery is well off her lifetime best this season, so let's hope she can find that form again today.
The Aggies will have 4 women in the 400. They had a rough showing at conference, but let's hope they can bounce back here. Lacarthea Cooper comes in ranked 8th and Jahnile Registre ranked 13th. They are our best shots at advancing today and Saturday. Tyler Lowe and Peace Nwaelehia are close to the bubble and will need their best race. Then we have no Aggies in the next two races the 800 and 400 hurdles sadly
Then again we have a some great talent in the 200 led by Camryn Dickson who's ranked 1st in the region, Anya Jackson ranked 3rd, and Jasmine Montgomery 15th. Camryn is in an easy heat, Anya and Jasmine are in a heat together and can push each other to a top 3 spot. The day will end with Megan Roberts and the 10000. She comes into the meet ranked 19th and is having her best season this outdoors. She tried going extremely hard at conference and it came back to bite her. Regional races are usually a slower pace so we'll see how Roberts races here. Although you have two phenoms who might push the pace in Jane Hedengren and Pamela Kosgei.
The goal is the same as it was yesterday! Let's get our field event athletes to punch their tickets and we need our runners to advance to Saturday. Let's keep the momentum rolling and continue to BTHO the west!!!
