https://flashresults.ncaa.com/Outdoor/2026/FirstRounds/West/index.htmOne more day to punch some tickets to the Track and Field National Finals. Today it's the women's turn to punch their tickets. We have a couple field event athletes looking to lunch their ticket and some athletes on the track. It'll be the same schedule we saw yesterday. It's time for the ladies to show out.
And show out is exactly what the men did yesterday. The men were already rolling with momentum after seeing several field athletes qualify Wednesday. The day kicked off with Etoro Bassey with a near perfect day in the high jump, eventually clearing 7'2.50 to punch his ticket in the men's high jump. The men would struggle in the 4x100, but then everything turned around. Ja'Qualon Scott punched his ticket in the 110 hurdles, then shortly after David Foster ran a season's best in the 100 to qualify. Then it was great stretch where we saw the Aggies qualify Kimar Farquharson and Eric Hemphill III in the 400, Peter Narumbe and Reece Sharman-Newell in the 800, then Scott again in the 400. Hemphill, Narumbe, and Sharman-Newell all had lifetime personal bests. While this was going on, grad transfer Daniel Falode will soar out to over a foot personal best leap of 53'9 in the triple jump to hold on to a qualifying spot. Then the day concluded with the men's 4x400 quartet of Eric Hemphill III, Musa Isah, Demarco Escobar, and Kimar Farquharson cruised to a victory with some great splits. 16 entires into the national finals for the men, the second most in the ncaa.
On the women's side we have 4 tickets punched: Katelyn Fairchild (javelin), McKenzie Fairchild (javelin), Morgan Davis (long jump), Carlie Weiser (shot put). Today let's get that number into the double digits and make some noise. We have the same field events we had yesterday, discus, high jump, and triple jump and we'll be represented in all of them. The discus will see Carlie Weiser and Abigail Martin. Martin comes in 5th in the regional and did qualify for Eugene two years ago, but missed last year. Weiser comes in ranked 41st, but is 12 feet from her lifetime best this season. Both struggled at conference, let's see if they turn it around here. In the high jump, we'll have Bradie Menegatti and Milena Chevalier who are ranked 16th and 22nd. But as we saw with Bassey yesterday, many top guys struggled. First attempt clearances are key. The girls will need to be clean over 5'11 and hopefully can clear 6'0 to have a chance. In the triple jump we'll have Machaeda Linton who comes in ranked 15th, but has hardly competed this outdoor season. She did well in conference and as she's getting healthier I expect her to keep moving up. Her best is 43'5, it'll probably take a 43 or higher to qualify.
While our men's 4x100 left a lot to be desired, this is an event where our women will thrive. The quarter of Anya Jackson, Camryn Dickson, Aysha Shaheed, and Jasmine Montgomery are ranked 2nd in the region and should easily advance. They'll be in heat 2 lane 6, with tu on their outside as the only ones who may push them, but it should be all Texas A&M! This will kick start a busy day for the trio of Dickson, Montgomery, and Jackson who are also competing in the 100 and 200. Additionally Dickson and Montgomery will probably also be in the 4x400. In the 100, Jackson and Montgomery are both in heat 1. They have some right competition in that heat, but let's see if they can break into the top 3. Montgomery started the season really slowly, but looked like a whole new runner (or like her 2025 self) on Thursday, I hope to see that again. Dickson got a nice draw in probably the slowest of the heats in heat 2, so I like her chances. In the 200, all 3 wowed the crowd Thursday. Montgomery will be in heat 2 and I like her chances there. Dickson and Jackson are in heat 3 and can push each other to both get a top 3 spot with a talented runner in the lane between them. This trio is an amazing sprinting group and I'm excited for them to put on a show tomorrow, they're competitors.
We only have Ags in a few other races. After the relay we'll have the women's steeplechase which features Debora Cherono and Emma Little. The steeplechase is 3 heats of 16 runners each. The top 3 in each heat will advance and the next 3 best times like the sprints. Cherono comes in ranked 3rd and Little 36th. The region seems really weak in this event and I think Cherono cruises to an easy heat win. We'll also see another distance race featuring an Aggie and that's the 5000 with Megan Roberts. She goes in ranked 36th and will be in a loaded heat.
In the 100 hurdles, Jaiya Covington is in a heat with the reigning national champion Aaliyah McCormick of Oregon, however they are the only two with times under 13 seconds so all we need is a smooth clean race and Covington should be through. The only other individual race we'll see some Aggies is in the 400 featuring Lacarthea Cooper and Jahnile Registre. Cooper is in a tough heat where the winner is head and shoulders ahead of the other 7, but it will be a battle with some sips for the next two spots. Registre got a more comfortable heat draw where the field is wide open for 3rd and I believe at her best she can grab it. Nowadays you nearly must PR to get into the top 12 unless you're an all American. Registre and Cooper will also run the 4x400 and it's to be seen if they will be joined by Dickson and Montgomery or will we have two other runners like Tyler Lowe or Peace Nwaelehia run. Either way it should be an easy qualification. The heat will have USC which will be tough to contend with. But we really need this relay to advance, having both relays in will be huge.
For the women's side we don't have the depth the men do and we are absent from many races. We had no one qualify in the 400 hurdles, 800, or 1500. We're relying on a small group, but I believe they can get it done. With 4 tickets punched, I believe we can get at least about 10 or 11 more today. This women's squad has struggled with injuries and we had girls like Sofia Yakushina, Adriana Tatum healthy or if Winny Bii didn't leave in the winter, we'd be in the conversation for winning a national championship. We still have some strong pieces and I'm excited to see what we can do! Let's keep that momentum rolling and punch some more tickets. BTHO the west and the quarterfinals!!!!!!!!!!!!
