I was walking thru Sam's yesterday, getting some dog food, and saw WWZ for $5, so I picked it up. I read it in 24 hours, with only minimal breaks. I really enjoyed it.

My favorite part? "...but if you ever see a picture of a G, or even an example of a real walking specimen, and he's got both air bags and his windpipe just dangling out from his lips, make sure you give him my number. I'm always up for meeting another veteran of Yonkers." That was a description from an Army vet after a thermobaric device was dropped at Yonkers.

World War Z was great, but not my favorite zombie book. Here's how I rank them based on what I've read:

1. Patient Zero (Jonathan Maberry) - Joe Ledger is a bad a$$. So are zombies
2. Day by Day Armageddon (J.L. Bourne) - Written by a dude in the military - great detail of weapons/survival
3. Beyond Exile (J.L. Bourne) - sequel to Day by Day Armageddon
4. Can you Survive the Zombie Apocalypse? (Max Brallier) - Couldn't put this book down - really fun to read
5. Zombie Survival Guide (Max Brooks) - I'm ready for an apocalypse now
6. Zombie Autopsies (Steven Schlozman) - written by an MD, goes deep into the medical side of zombie-ism. Cool read
7. World War Z
8. Rot and Ruin (Jonathan Maberry)
9. Dust and Decay (Jonathan Maberry) - sequel to 6
10. Handling the Undead (John Lindqvist)

(I know, I'm a dork)

Jonathan Maberry was one of the contributors to the recent History Channel show "Zombies: A Living History." I'll have to check out his two books, as well as "Day by Day Armadeddon."

Totally forgot about Day by Day Armageddon - updated the list above to include it (not that the list matters!). If you buy this book, I recommend getting the sequel (Beyond Exile) at the same time.

...and J.L. Bourne also contributed to the History Channel show, as did Max Brooks!

Probably get flamed for this, and I hope this isn't a thread jack, but I don't get all the love on TexAgs for the Day by Day series. I enjoyed it, and it was well written, but the story itslef seemed a bit lacking and I did not get into some of the premises o fthe Day by Day series.

WWZ was much better, in my opinion, though it appears the movie adaptation will be missing the point entirely.

Yeah, but this book would have been difficult to completely translate to a movie. However, they really messed with it too much.

Saw the History channel show - was really interesting.

Jonathan Maberry's, Joe Ledger series is being made into a T.V. series, I believe. If you haven't read the Joe Ledge novels (three of them), it's definitely worth it, IMO.

I bought the book 2 days ago and I'm probably half way through. I wish I'd bought a hard copy instead of ebook so I could share it, but I was too impatient after hearing about it on TexAgs.

Super nerd alert: I had been watching Battlestar Galactica when not reading the book (friend recommended the series) and could only picture Starbuck as the downed pilot. Seemed like the strong woman that could get through all that mess. Until the whole guardian angel thing.

I definitely had a hard time starting the book. I got to the middle and it picked up finally and I couldn't put it down. Glad I stuck with it.

Yeah, movie would be tough, but I think HBO could have nailed it as a mini-series. Been so pissed off reading about the movie *******ization of the novel.

Reading it right now, I am enjoying the format and how grim the outlook is for all of humanity. I know there is a movie coming out but I am skeptical as this books needs a multi-episode mini series ala HBO to do it justice...

The movie was shelved and is apparently going through a massive rewrite.

Have any of you read the Newsflesh books by Mira Grant? The first is called Feed and the second is Deadline. She likes to play around with the idea of blogs and the undead in her titles. The third comes out soon. I haven't read the second but the first is really good. Instead of in the middle of a zombie attack, it is years after it has been controlled. Because of the failure of the Mainstream Media to warn the world about the disaster, they have pretty much fallen to the blogosphere to handle the news.

The story follows one of the blogs (after the end times) and how they have been handpicked to follow a presidential candidate (a first as no blog has been allowed total access like this before). It follows the campaign moving through the red and blue states and the after effects of Kellis-Amberlee (the virus). It is very interesting to see the changes to simple things like dining will do as they have to go into a fenced area and be decontaminated. Zombie bullets are even use, bullets with zombie flesh matter embedded, to turn humans and pretty much get a OHK anywhere on the body. The final moments of the first book were bold and shocking.

The zombies are more of a backdrop for a political thriller, but at the same time they are at the forefront. Fantastic novel with a VERY strong female lead. Very interesting dissection of this new media stronghold of the blogosphere that I found more fascinating at times than the zombies.

Ummm, that looked horrible. What the hell were they thinking in making the Z's move like that??? The last shot of them made them look like Orcs climbing the walls of Helm's Deep!

Apparently, the full trailer premieres Thursday, but just that short clip doesn't give me much hope.

There is just so much FAIL in turning Brad Pitt's character from a documentarian of the past war and into "only one man (who) can save the world." And, it may have already been brought up on this thread, but the decision to make the Z's able to run (and apparently turn into a tsunami of corpses) looks to be a bad decision.

From now on, I will only refer to this movie by the title "Brad Pitt Mutant Zombie Movie."

It has done nothing to earn the title "World War Z" and is actually an insult to the book.

Chipotle, I'm guessing you didn't read the book or you totally missed the point of the novel. I have no problem with running zombies, but I do have a problem with them here. Zombies are slow, easy to kill, and in a confratation with one, shouldn't be very threatening. Yet they still cause global chaos and destroy entire civilizations. The book examines why this happens using a political backdrop. This just looks like a typical 2012, the world is ending, disaster movie.
