I read the book. And I take comfort knowing they are probably just using the name of the book only for the movie which hopefully gives the opportunity for some other media industry to take a shot at doing the actually book some justice.

It's still a zombie movie (don't give a s*** how they move) and I am going to see it.

WWZ would have made a GREAT mini-series (like Rome or Spartacus) on HBO/Showtime/etc...

Perhaps one of those cable networks (TNT) will see the value and run with it.

And what do you think the odds of that actually happening are? I'd say about 1 in 100,000. Pitt's production company owns the rights to the book and this is what they've done with it. Do you think they're going to let the rights/profits go to someone else so that this other group can do it over?

This movie (which looks like a POS) is going to kill any chance we ever had of seeing this source material done right. And that upsets me because it deserves better.

This movie is exactly why Microsoft refused to give up the rights to Halo and wanted creative control. Hollywood always ****s up good source material.

These zombies look more like the I Am Legend vampire/zombie things that could scale walls and had super strength. Just awful.

The book was impossible to make into a movie as written. It would have been like trying to make a movie out of King's "Night Shift" instead of just focusing on The Children of the Corn or Lawnmower Man.

WWZ was a great book, but the stories were too all over the place to make a cohesive, 2 hour movie. It would have made hell of a miniseries, though.

I figured all along that the would take one segment (like the Battle of Yonkers) and cobble it together with another (like the Battle of Hope) and create some kind of military zombie war movie without the nuance that makes the book so great.

I Am Legend...another fantastic book that was butchered completely. I know books are always better, but come on! To totally miss the entire premise makes me think: 1- the producers are stupid and don't get it, or 2- the producers think the general public is too stupid to "get it".

I think I read it on this thread a while back, but something in the style of Contagion would have been perfect.

Why even buy the rights to the book if that's what you're going to do with it? Anyone that's read the book will hate it. Horrible that that's what they did to it.

I would love to see Christopher Nolan direct Akira.

I've only seen Akira high. Not even sure what it's about.

There have been numerous attempts to make a film (even a trilogy) of Akira. The last version I read about had Kristen Stewart and Garrett Hedlund (Tron: Legacy) rumored. Thank God it was shut down.
