'If I'm going to bake, it's going to be on my terms!"

This could have actually been a funny part of the movie, but they went with sappy. That doesn't fit in with a movie where you have scenes like the dress fitting.

the "sap" is what grounds the characters and makes them something more than just caricatures.

^Word. It's what differentiates a rounded movie from a 3 minute SNL sketch. Every Apatow comedy has characters with some depth. It keeps them likeable and real even as they spend most of the movie doing/saying insane things.

And if you can't buy those scenes, you are either not married or are married to woman a with an abnormal emotional stability.

It's not that I can't buy it (and again, I really liked the movie), it's just that juxtaposed against a fat girl crapping in a sink three minutes earlier in the film, it seems a bit off.

Thank you 5thGen, that is what I was trying to get across. And I'm not trying to say it was a bad movie either. I laughed at quite a few things. I do think it is getting overhyped because of how surprised people were that they laughed that much at a movie full of chicks being chicks.

There is no way to overhype that dress fitting scene! I would go watch it again just for that lol.

I'm a big fan of Chris O'Dowd and The IT Crowd, so I really enjoyed his performance as Rhodes. But the script was poorly written, unevenly paced, too long, wasted characters, and vile. Yes, I did laugh - quite a bit, actually. But this movie should have been much better than it was. In the end, if your idea of high comedy is watching women vomit on each other and have diarrhea in marble sinks, this is definitely your movie. Enjoy.

if that was present throughout the whole movie, I'd agree with you. but it was one scene. the rest of the movie still stands on its own and is funny to hilarious for the entirety of the movie.

Serious question, how many period jokes are there? Say what you will about it, that's just my arbitrary comedy line I don't like to cross.

I don't remember one.

if a joke's funny, it's funny though. period jokes are a no go, but you're named after a kid who ate his parents while radiohead laughed at him and cartman licked his delicious tears?

Yes, of course.

Watching a comedy (I thought it was pretty decent, nothing amazing) in a theatre full of women is so brutal.

They set the bar so low on what to laugh at, and were talking/cackling to their girlfriends almost the whole movie.

Saw it last night. There were a few moments that were definitely geared towards the guys in the theater... other than that it was a chick flick.

My girlfriend loved it, I thought moments were funny. It should not have been touted as the chick version of the Hangover.

Hilarious movie. Wiig is incredibly funny.

If you weren't laughing during the airplane scene (among others)...I can do nothing for you, son.

Aggie00, sorry to be late answering your question. TV comedies that make this guy laugh: Arrested Development (top of the list), 30 Rock, Just Shoot Me, Seinfeld, Anything but Love, The Carol Burnett Show, Laugh-In (although it's terribly dated now), The Simpsons, King of the Hill.

TV comedies incapable of making this guy laugh (at last two viewings of each): South Park, 2 and 1/2 Men, Everybody Loves Raymond, Family Guy, American Dad, Community, Jim Belushi's show (can't remember the name), Friends.

Ha, I'll agree with this. There was a middle aged woman a couple rows in front of us, that immediately repeated every line she found funny. She and her girls were annoying.

You have compiled an incredibly schizo list there.

Who has even thought about the existence of Just Shoot Me in at least a decade?

You don't think South Park is funny, but Just Shoot Me is? Yikes.

overall, i liked the movie.....but i have to say i do agree with some of the other posters on here who are commenting about the back and forth goofy-to-serious with this movie.....

i mean, how can you really transition to something serious after the dress fitting scene?

honestly, it felt like these were two different movies being thrown together.....

on one side, you had the crazy story of the broke, depressed maid of honor.....trying to get her life back together while battling with a bridesmaid trying to take her place as the brides best friend.....

on the other side, you have the more "hangoverish" type story of a bunch of goofy women getting in ridiculous situations (airplane and dress scene for example).....honestly, i was hoping to see A LOT more of this.....

*spoiler*

when they got on the plane to head to vegas, i was like, "yes!!! here it comes!!! perfect thing to follow-up everything else that's happened so far!!!"

instead, she goes nuts on the plane, they land in wyoming, and they never make it to vegas.....i thought that was a pretty big cock-tease and was pretty annoyed by it.....

*end spoilers*

all in all, if it didn't have the feel of them trying to have two different movies and stories going on at once, i think it could have worked even better.....

oh!!! fun little fact if it hasn't been posted here yet.....

megan (fat bridesmaid) and air marshall jon are actually married in real life and have a kid....this makes the airplane scene and the little "extra" as the credits were rolling even more hilarious

WOW!!! That's hilarious. I actually predicted to my wife that the sequel to this movie would be based around the 2 of them getting married. Funny.

I thought the biggest tease was the redheaded chick. They had a TON of leeway with that character on where they could take it and situations they could put her "innocent" character in. The only one where they took any advantage with this was the airplane for about 5 seconds and her follow up comment about that scenario later in the movie.

i think i said it earlier in the thread, but erin from the office and the chick from reno 911 were a huge wasted opportunity for laughs.

Totally agree. the mother of 3 (reno 911) her lines were classic.

As funny as the dress shop and airplane scenes were, this impersonation is the one my wife and I have laughed about the most since the movie. That was hilarious.

I saw it on Monday as part of our "team build" at work. I thought it was hilarious. The scene in the plane had me rolling. Kristen Wiig is a great comedian. She's one of those ad-libbing geniuses.

Overall, I'd give it a B+.

As a female I was bored with it overall. There were some funny parts to it, but I was glad that I saw it as a matinee and only paid $4.50 to see it.

FWIW I am a big fan of Old School, Wedding Crashers, Hangover, and Anchorman.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
It had some really funny scenes, but it was 2 hours long and there were only 20-30 minutes of good comedy. It's not as good as Old School, where the movie just rolled from hilarious gag to hilarious gag.

Also, a lot of the jokes were cliche. Now these days, every movie's jokes are going to be cliche. But the trick is repackaging the same old joke in a new way. I thought the movie got a B- or a C+ in that.

Anyway, it was a decent movie and reasonably funny, but as a comedy, it was a poor man's hangover, and it got owned by other grode comedies like Old School, Superbad, Super Troopers, etc.

Saw it last night with the wife. Entertaining for sure with some good laughs but for the life of me I cannot understand the "most I've laughed in a theater" comments at all.

Saw it today & thought it was hilarious & a chick flick. I do think it is the crudest of Aptow's movies.

I thought the dude behind me was gonna puke during the dress fitting & the last scene with mccarthy.

I saw it, overall thought it was funny but actually did not laugh as much as I expected.

To me the plane scene was the highlight of the movie, easily better than the dress fitting scene. I wanted more of that type of comedy.

************Spoiler*************
I was disapointed that they didn't make it to Vegas. I would have enjoyed that much more than seeing her go back to be depressed in Milwaukee.

All that being said, often times I enjoy these type of movies way more the second time around (maybe that makes me a dumbass, I don't know). The theatre I was in was dead quiet with a bunch of old people that probably didn't help.
