The bank routing info could screw Walt,

I thought Walt was paid in cash? I think it's going to tie back to the other people and corporations that have been financing and overseeing his operation. Last season alluded to there being much bigger players above Gus.

I'm curious as to how they knew the exact location and size dimensions of the room. Also, one would think an evidence room in a major metropolitan area would be lined with lead, at least on the exterior.

Mike used to be a cop, he's probably been in there many times before. I seriously doubt there's any evidence rooms lined in lead. Also this room was well within a secure area, someone shouldn't have been allowed to get so close in the first place.

I assume it will tie into Gus's roots from Peru and why the Mexican Cartel was afraid to kill him.

Good point. I figured the connections to Madrigal Electric or whatever the Corporation is called were already established. Perhaps that info will link the operation to the individuals within the corporation that have been involved, like that swanky dude they showed in the previews (Holy sh*t, the first segment of Small Town Security was hard to sit through. I really hope they don't do that to us again.)

When do they start cooking?

Also when Hank finds out does he take down Walt? Or understand what Walt has done for him?

Not to rule out that possibility, but it seems the writers are putting Skylar thru a similar character arc as Walter and I viewed this as a step along that path.

Ted thinks Skylar sent Saul's goons over to his house. Ted isn't scared of Walt, he's scared of Skylar. Ted was practically grovelling and begging for mercy. When Skylar realized that, her tears dried up, the look on her face changed, and her posture straightened up. I think she'll relish the power of being the mafioso's wife.

That scene between Skylar and Ted, the scene between Walt & Saul, and the scene at the end with Walt "forgiving" Skylar all reminded me of the Godfather movies and Goodfellas.

For some reason I loved Small Town Security. It was so awkward and weird I couldn't believe it was on TV. Then at the end it dropped a huge bomb. A real life plot twist I never saw coming. It completely turns the show on it's head and all the relationships and actions between the people that seemed a little weird are now super creepy. A milder version of the Sixth Sense where everything that seemed off before now makes sense.

***SPOILERS FOR SMALL TOWN SECURITY***
The episode shows a bit of Lt. Dennis's backstory, talks about having been married and having kids, military service, and going Y2K preparation crazy with his family in the back country of Wyoming. Also talks about his weird relationship with Joan, how much he admires her, goes to her house, cooks and cleans for her, and will work unlimited hours for her. Goes on about how their friendship broke up his marriage, also Joan's husband isn't thrilled about it either. It was just super creepy the way they interacted, Dennis almost in love with this old lady, Joan acting more like a mother figure and treating Dennis like a servant. She kept talked about what a strange person he is despite how close they seemed. Then at the end, Joan gets her old Public Access TV show back and wants Dennis on as her first guest for some unexplained reason. First thing they do is show a clip from an earlier episode that aired 5 years ago when Joan was interviewing the same person but without a moustache named Lt. Denise...

it was like a really, really, really, really, really, really, bad rip-off of reno 911.

is it assumed 100% of the laptop hard drive is erased, it was damaged sure, but is it 100% gone?
Video/audio files are a little more complicated than a .txt file. Any damage should ruin the ability to decipher much of the file data, but we are forgetting the most important thing about harddrives: they are disks that store data with precision and have fine needles that read the disks. Any impact on the disks and and they are ruined, any electronic damage to the disks and they are essentially un-formatted. Then again it was knocked off a shelf...

Reno 911 was improv comedy with a rough idea of what the scene was going to be about. Small Town Security was just a bunch of really odd small town people doing boring stuff for the most part. None of them the least bit charismatic or even intentionally trying to be amusing. The awkwardness, complex relationships, and warped perceptions of themselves made this interesting to me. If I had been in a different mood I might have turned it off after the Breaking Bad preview but I was still pumped from BB so Small Town Security held my interest long enough to pay off.

At the end of the season 4 thread, there was a discussion about why (most) viewers are still pulling for Walt. Someone brought up the point that up until now, Walt has been going up against someone even more powerful and evil. But that doesn't seem to be the case in the wake of Gus' death.

We've already seen that Walt manipulated Saul into doing something terrible. Then Walt bullied Saul when Saul said he wanted out. Just like with Gus, nobody will get to "retire."

There was a check early on in his days with Gus. It set Skylar off in being worried that he wasn't being cautious about the IRS. I don't know that any checks were ever deposited, but there is a paper trail of at least one check out there (possibly canceled, but either way, it existed at some point).

Most of the best shows on TV end up with threads that are 20, 30 pages long. You new to this concept??

I don't think that comment deserved a sarcastic response. A season thread reaching 7-8 pages before airing a single episode from the season is pretty unusual, even for the popular shows.

Just now realized that the show's title: "Live Free or Die" is New Hampshire's state motto. Pretty cool tie-in there.

More than any other show I can remember, Gilligan has fun with the show titles, whether thru double entendre or even arc-ing them together. The best by far were the 4 episodes in Season 2 named "737", "Down", "Over", "ABQ"... which spelled out the season finale shocker; but each individually had another meaning within the context of each episode. Truly creative genius at play here.

Ted has to die. And I don't think you can discount the possiblity that Skyler will be the one to do it.

Skyler : Ted :: Walt : Crazy-8

Skyler has maimed Ted in her self-preservation efforts, just like Walter did to Crazy-8. He knows too much to let him live. But there's no way that alone will be enough to motivate Skyler to kill.

Eventually, Ted will do something that gets Skyler off the fence. Just like Crazy-8 hiding the plate shard finally got Walter to choke out Crazy-8 rather than setting him free with a promise to keep quiet.

I could see Skylar's Crazy 8 decision going either way though. Wouldn't surprise me if she backs away from following through, in contrast with Walt. They've done a great job of putting that doubt in our mind, because there's no doubt that a part of her is embracing this new life as she gets deeper into it.

Next several episode titles:

Madrigal
Hazard Pay
Fifty-One (It was his 52nd B-Day in the Season Opener, so perhaps that takes place 1 year after this episode)
