My guess is that the new girl is the Madrigal connection. I also agree that Skylar was just dealing with shock that her husband is a monster as opposed to Ted being dead, though it is a possibility.

I like a good German villain, so I hope I have plenty of opportunity to root against them.

Now that actually makes a lot of sense. That would explain why Mike had his epiphany while he had Lydia at gunpoint. Killing her would instantly slam the door on any possibility of restarting things. And Mike is apparently down about $2 million now.

Exactly. Lydia was a part of the group with the company owner in the meeting with the DEA. So Im assuming she was Gus's hook up to all the lab equipment and chemicals and distribution resources.

I'm just gonna go ahead and stomp this out. Ted is not dead. Nothing has alluded to him being dead. He is alive and in the hospital. Any speculation otherwise is silly.

Hank is bad ass. He banter with mike was so great during the investigation about his grand daughters money.

Looks like its setting up hank to figure it out walter at some point.

Although mike was heavily involved this episode and maybe the next, I don't see him being a major part of the story on the way out. Maybe I'm wrong. But I hope they take it back to a hank vs walter story because hank is that great. Considering there are 14 more episodes left I wouldnt be suprised if mike plays a major role in the next few but I doubt he's there in the long run (the ending episodes). And obviously Jesse will be important to the end.

At first Jesse was the bad guy but now you feel for him after walt ****s with him repeatedly. I wouldnt be shocked if Jesse ended up killing walt at the end.

I don't remember if they ever showed anyone else in his house, but Gus is/was gay.

Freaking awesome episode!!! I had to rewind and rewatch 3 different scenes. Not because I didn't understand, but because they were so freaking bad ass

Absolutely. I loved, loved, loved it.

The scene when Jesse breaks down after 'finding' the cigarette was so uncomfortable knowing what we know. Walt is masterfully manipulating his emotions and has been from the start. Like a puppet on a string.

From the first scene Jesse has always been a wannabe bad guy with a soft heart. A goofy loser sure but I don't think he was ever portrayed as truly being bad. Nothing like Walt.

Walt tells himself he's doing this for his family but I think he's going to have to kill his family to save his ass. Looks like Skyler & Hank.

I think he's referring to the last scene from the last episode where he's kissing on Skylar. Dunno if he was gonna poke her or not.

3. What caused Mike to have a change of heart while he had Lydia at gunpoint?

At the diner, Mike told Lydia those 11 guys were solid and Gus had paid them well to be quiet. Standing there with his gun on Lydia, did he realize that with the feds seizing all of the offshore "hush money" accounts, he had to either get the cash flowing again or kill everyone?
This is what I still don't get. Or I don't think they did a good job showing why Mike would want nothing to do with Walt and want this lady dead to deciding to change it. I get the keep her alive thing with the daughter connection. I just don't get why that makes him want to get back in the business at that point. Seemed forced to me.

Pretty sure it's that his $2M is gone. And he didn't want to have her little girl find her dead mommy. So, all in all, he could avoid that ad make the money.
Houston_Ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
The part that bridged the gap was Hank letting Mike know he knows about the $2MM. Mike doesn't have that money any more, so he's in the same place as Walt...broke/no retirement nest egg and is forced back into employment.
Ol Jock 99
How long do you want to ignore this user?

He wanted nothing to do with Walt BEFORE learning his $2MM was gone. Now he's broke and his boss is dead. Very different calculus.

The woman, while obviously a hot-head, must be of critical use. Like getting the supplies they need. Walt and Jesse don't have the resources to get the methylamine...but the lab had a ton. She must be why. And yeah, she played Mike like a fiddle.

Having to kill his assassin was what convinced him. The funds are frozen; "uncorruptible Chris" was willing to kill 11 people for $130k.

The idea that not only will those "loose ends" be willing to kill for change, they will talk to the police to avoid jail time. This means Mike is screwed. He is a bigger fish. He knows he is too exposed. He needs money to keep the operation afloat thus avoiding prison.

Yeah, I think Olsen nailed it. My wife also thought she saw Lydia at the Madrigal meeting with the investigators.

Lydia is the connection to Madrigal. She's vital to getting the chemicals and equipment. If Mike killed her, there was no going back to the business. So, that was the moment where he had to decide what to do.

He could've kill her, but then he'd remain broke and have to worry about the other 10 guys (who are also now broke) squealing. Or he could let her live, potentially make some real money, and get the cash flowing to those other 10 guys (which helps buy their silence).
ORAggieFan
How long do you want to ignore this user?
But he went there with the intent to kill her. It was the daughter thing that changed his mind. He knew she could get the chemicals needed. He already knew the $2M was gone. All those things he knew and he still went to kill her.

I guess it had to do with the daughter and his granddaughter and something clicked for him, I just don't think it was executed well.

Maybe he just said he was going to kill her and nobody would ever find her for leverage?

I don't think calling her up on the phone and saying "Hey Lydia. How's it going? Great to hear. Oh by the way, I just shot the dude who you sent to kill me. Now would you mind partnering up with me again because I'm broke? No, okay...well thanks anyways."

That last scene of Walter in bed with Skylar was one of the creepiest/darkest of the series so far. That made me feel so uncomfortable. Very well executed.

I think the acting made it obvious he had a change of heart based on the daughter.

I think I get it, I just don't think it was well executed. Maybe I just don't get it though....

I think it was executed perfectly and makes perfect sense.

Mike thought he was sitting pretty with 2mil, he wanted nothing to do with Walt because he saw a trainwreck coming for him and didn't want to risk anything.

After seeing that his 11 solid guys might not be so solid when it comes to money, seeing his 2mil gone, he started rethinking his future. He was set on killing that chick because she put a hit out on him but after having to struggle with the thought of making her disappear leaving her to think her mom abandoned her, and weighing killing her and leaving her to be found and adding more heat to his trail, he came to the conclusion that he could keep her in line by letting her live, get access to the chemicals he needed to start the business back up and solve all his problems.

Mike has become my favorite character so I loved the episode... but Gus, the most meticulous and paranoid guy around just writes all of his banking info on the back of a picture?

And wires money directly to 11 different people?

Criminal masterminds don't do that... I realize we had to get from Point A to Point B, but that seemed a little bit convenient.

Yeah, writing the bank name and info was just silly and a way to move the plot forward. A guy like Gus would have random numbers and that would be it.

To be clear - Mike only said his 11 guys were rock solid when he thought they all had a nest egg. He would not have said that if he had known then that the cops had found the money.

Yes, you can be picky and say Gus would never have written down the banking info there but it has to be written down somewhere.

I also wonder how many evidence rooms have an outside wall. I would think those rooms are in the middle of a police station.

This was an especially dark, creepy episode thanks to confirming 100% about the lily of the valley attack and that last seen in bed with Walt and Skylar with Walt telling her that it gets easier. Also, Skylar's scene with Ted in the hospital when he pathetically pleaded for his life.

Walt has convinced himself that it's all about taking care of his family so his sins are covered, never mind that he could've avoided ALL of this if he had just swallowed his pride when he was first diagnosed with lung cancer and gotten financial help from his old friends.

i kept expecting the episode to end with Skylar saying "i'm pregnant."

Then they'd have the added layer of it possibly being Ted's kid.

but I was wrong.
