If so, that's news to me.

It was earlier this year when I saw that season on Netflix but I pretty clearly remember them showing that the reason Gus was so devastated when they killed his partner was because he was his gay lover.

Lydia was sitting at the table when the DEA was talking with Madrigal. She is with Madrigal. Why is there confusion as to who she is?

Yes they certainly were - it's not something the writers were trying to hide.

Why are you SEARCHING for a gay agenda??? It was clearly stated that the other guy was like a brother to Gus. Gus's family helped raise him, put him through college, etc. And now they are in business together.

Imagine yourself at a business proposal with your best friend. Things are tense, but going ok. Then your best friend is shot in the head. Think you'd be "devastated"??

You. Trying to get people to think you are some homophobic old fart talking about "gay agenda" in a TV show that happens to have a gay drug lord.

I could have sworn that Gus spoke about his wife and kids when he had Walt over to dinner at his house; he mentioned that he liked to make the same dish for them, or that they loved the dish he was serving.
Texaggie7nine
How long do you want to ignore this user?
He did. I assumed he either made it up to put on a hetero front for Walt or he left his wife in Chile or wherever saying it was for their safety but really because he was gay.

Ok, fair assumption, but where have you found evidence that they were a gay couple?

I can't remember exactly what they showed, I just remember having no doubt that they were gay lovers.

I just found this on the Breaking Bad Wiki

quote:
Gilligan has stated that he decided against officially confirming or denying whether or not Max and Gus were, in fact, lovers. However, he has said that if you were to imply this about their relationship, you "wouldn't be wrong."

Ok, but my point stands, she could still be his kid, AND work for Madrigal; Gus could have set her up.

Seriously, just a hunch that got me thinking after the show.

I recently rewatched all 4 seasons before this season started and there is no indication that they were gay lovers at all. But if you want to believe that, go ahead..

Well the statement from Gilligan is kind of oxymoronic. He says he won't confirm or deny but if you infer they are gay lovers you aren't wrong. So if you aren't wrong then you are right. He didn't say "you could be right" or "you may not be wrong" he said "you wouldn't be wrong". So I take that as a resounding yes. They are gay lovers.

I think Gilligan is saying that however the viewer wants to interpret their relationship is up to the viewer, and whatever their interpretation is would not be wrong, since it really has no bearing on the storyline.

I thought it was fairly obvious Gus and his guy pal were gay.

Exactly.

It seems like a huge leap to me to assume that just because Gus (who probably was not yet used to violence) was distraught about his partner getting killed in front of him, they had to be gay together and everything Gus said about his wife/children was a lie. But to each his own.

I don't give a rat's a$$ which way they go. I just had a hunch about the new girl being his friend's daughter, who Gus took care of after his murder.

You know, I've heard tell rumors of some folks that are both gay AND straight. Fellers call em "BI-sex-u-als". Can you imagine!?

I said that on page 16. Apparently no one else read it. In that scene there is a child's table in the house. I can't find the clip online though.

Calling it an agenda has nothing to do with being homophobic or not. It has to do with inventing something that isn't there. Had the creators wanted Gus to be gay, they could have made him gay. As it stands, he referenced a wife and kids and didn't reference any sexual relationship with his friend. In fact, Gus called him a brother.

My last post on the subject.

The actor who plays Gus is clearly gay in real life, but i don't think Gus was gay.

It's funny that finding that the creators of the show stated that 'if you thought they were gay you wouldn't be wrong' didn't end this debate.

And yes, Gus could be gay and have a wife and kid.

Now let's debate something that matters like, could that woman be his kid? I guess so but I don't see any reason why she needs to be.

I agree, a great thread derail. I do remember asking myself during last season if Gus and his partner were gay, but not really getting much confirmation either way. Which is probably just what the writers want. Enough of a hint to raise suspicion and drive internet discussion.

Gives writers reason to bring Gus back in flashback scenes, humanizing him in contrast to Walt going really dark, by showing how he (Gus) cared for his best friend's little girl after his murder; for which Gus feels responsible.
