I cried at the end of "the Dirty Dozen. Jim Brown was throwing these hand grenades down these airshafts. And Richard Jaeckel and Lee Marvin were sitting on top of this armored personnel carrier, dressed up like Nazis and Trini Lopez... He busted his neck while they were parachuting down behind the Nazi lines...

And Richard Jaeckel - at the beginning he had on this shiny helmet...

The scene at the end of Stephen King's THE MIST. The car has run out of gas and then one of the characters gets out of the car. About thirty seconds later I'm turned to jelly. Completely blew me away, even more than THE GREEN MILE or THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION. Totally unexpected, totally wiped me out.

Note: if you haven't seen it I was deliberately was vague because I'm not a fan of spoilers.

Jimmy Smits dying wasn't exactly a surprise.

1) Someone already mentioned it, but in The Patriot where Mel Gibson is asking his daughter to speak to him (she had never spoken to him but speaks to her siblings).

He finally turns around to get on his horse and she chases after him screaming "Daddy, don't go, I'll say anything you want, please don't go".

It gets me EVERY SINGLE TIME, especially now that I have a daughter

Especially when you've been through it with leaving for multiple deployments.

Also, the Pursuit of Happyness, when the are sleeping in the subway bathroom.

you might be traumatized after thinking for all these years that hooch lived, but unfortunately for police canine lovers everywhere, he did not.

Yeah, they had the Hooch sired puppies at the end to try to put a happy spin on it, but Hooch didn't make it.

Sling Blade when Carl tells the boy he loves him.

The begining of the second time I saw Saving Private Ryan because I knew what was going to happen to most of the guys in the higgins boat.

First time I saw No Country For Old Men. My brother died the day it came out and I know he would have loved it.

Speaking of Click and Sandler brings to mind this scene in Reign Over Me: http://youtu.be/AkMwuPpLpz8
Subject matter might indicate its a tear jerker, just didn't think Sandler would be so good at it.

Deats' death in "Lonesome Dove" gets to me everytime. The first time I saw that scene, I didn't believe I'd seen it correctly. The 100+ times I've seen that movie since then, I still wince.

Even the fact that Danny Glover has turned out to be such a left-winger over the years has done nothing to lessen the impact.

Scrubs. The one where all the patients get infected organs and Dr. Cox's friend dies (the one who could have waited months for a new organ). . Dr Cox's meltdown was hard to watch. Plus, it's the 1st time The Fray - How to save a life was used on a major Tv show. Was the perfect song for that scene. (back before Grey's Anatomy drove that song into the ground).

It's not unexpected because the entire movie is an orchestrated tearjerker, but in Terms of Endearment, the scene where Debra Winger is saying goodbye to her boys and Tommy is so mad at her, and she tells him that someday he'll be sorry that he was mean to her and its okay because she loves him and knows that he loves her too, and not to ever worry that she didn't know. Now that I have a son that scene kills me.

Watched part of Saving Private Ryan again tonight for probably the 20th time. When the mother gets the telegrams it never fails to tear me up. I can't imagine what that would feel like....standing there watching that car come down the driveway....wondering if that's your worst nightmare....then KNOWING it's your worst nightmare.

What a sickening feeling....felt by so many mothers, wives, and sisters during that time. Can't imagine.....

HOOSIERS!!!
It has a few of them. Especially after Jimmy Chitwood makes the shot and they cut to Dennis Hopper jumping up and down in his hospital bed "Yeeeessssssss!"

I'm not sure why it surprises me anymore since animated movies are geared as much toward adults as children these days, but there are several surprising tear jerkers in Disney/Pixar films for me...usually just happy tears welling up, not full on crying.

For example:

When Wall-E and Eve meet again and dance in space.
Wreck It Ralph's final monologue about "if that kid likes me, how bad can I be."
Toy Story 3 ending.
UP beginning.
Even Monsters, Inc. when Sully goes back into Boo's room at the end and she shouts, "Kitty!"

Man anything that involves kids kills me know that I am a parent.

Saving Private Ryan has so many.

I think the one that had the most effect on me was when the officer and the priest get out of the car the mother just drops to her knees.
