Could be cool. I'm far more interested in this than Mando so hopefully this idea works….honestly kinda surprised though the Force seems to be central to the plot….

Was always under the impression this was going to be more strictly a space fighting type movie not dealing specifically with the Force

I think it mainly *is* a "space fighting" thing - it's Gosling's character delivering some boy from one end of the galaxy to another - it just sounds like the boy may have a special Force connection or something? And now that I type that out, it sounds exactly like the plot for The Mandalorian, except a boy instead of Grogu, which is somewhat concerning. That said, I do trust Gosling to choose good projects at this point, so hopefully it's worth it. Either way, I'm right there with you in terms of being more interested in that than Mando.

"May alter the future of the Force"

I choose to believe this is going to be a time travel movie that wipes out the Sequel Trilogy...

I think the new Empire will have found a way to capture the force into a soda can, and sell it to whoever wants it. People will snatch it up because it has electrolytes, and it will create a new race of Super Forcers. Ryan Gosling will challenge a cloned and enhanced Han Solo to a Kessel Run race for the fate of the Galaxy and naming rights to the new Force Soda (example: Yoda Soda).

Maybe Ryan Goslings character accelerates at warp 10 around the sun?

Spaceballs did it….

Ok no actually they didn't do it at all but your post conjured up this funny scene and gosh darn it I can't wait for the sequel and to show this to my kids!

As many people as they've brought out of the EU, not giving us her, Talon Kardde and even C'Baoth is a shame.

well it goes back to Disney forbidding any sort of original character development that did not come from their room full of monkeys on typewriters.

On the other hand, Mara Jade is the definitive blueprint for the "Strong Grrl Behind The Scenes" trope that feels unnatural and retconned and was absolutely what Ashoka was based on.

Mara Jade was a cool femme fatale character and then she became Luke's slam piece.

I'm pretty surprised that the Independent Guild of Women Jedi hasn't unilaterally come out in opposition of Star Wars for casting female fictional characters in a demeaning manner. She was a bad ass Jedi type that was eventually killed off and likely made dozens of female Star Wars fans rage quit the franchise.

Had her deletion and relegation to the expanded universe come later during "Me Too" you would have seen Star Wars suffer from cancel culture.

Mara Jade went out like a boss trying to kill her own son nephew, though.

Those were some wild books, but largely entertaining. And Kylo is definitely Jacen Solo. Probably the last scene of TLJ came from those books as well - Luke suddenly appears aboard Jacen's flagship and has a conversation with him, and other people hear him in the room, except he's also flying an X-wing at the same time.

Those books also gave birth to a ton of the Mandalorian lore about beskar and beyond.

I enjoyed them. Luke's force projection was 100% out of that series.

I think those were the last EU ones that I really liked. The ones after that where Luke and Ben do their galaxywide Force tour and the planet full of Sith comes into play sort of lost me, even though I read all but the last 1-2.

Did you like/read the comic series set way in the future with Cade Skywalker?

Just watched shadow lord…. It almost makes me annoyed at how good that was.

Is Filoni the most bipolar Star Wars guy ever simultaneously bringing us the best and worst Star Wars content?

Shadow lord was pretty straightforward no kiddie filler and great. Every live action and previous thing he touches has so much awful cheesy filler with some good moments. The entire Ashoka storyline was great but then the Ashoka show was a massive let down with the end of the first season being laughably bad. Mandalorian has my favorite moment in a long while but 90% terrible cheesy villain. Clone wars and rebels I understand the meh parts because it is more geared for little kids. This might be the most straightforward no nonsense material we have ever had from him.

Off-topic but I rewatched Phantom Menace last night and had an idea for a conversation topic. There is a shell of a good movie in there, but obviously it has its flaws.

If you could change something about Phantom Menace to make it a better movie, what would you change?

Qui-Gon doesn't save Jar Jar from being run over by the trade federation vehicle.

100% Jar Jar. Find a way to tie everything in together as is without Jar Jar.

Good luck finding a useful idiot to request supreme power for Chancellor Palpatine in Attack of the Clones.

Opposite of Highlander's "There can be only one" mantra, I have two changes:

- Introduce Anakin as an older, mid-teens kid
- Remove the comic antics from Jar Jar. He still needs to be an idiot, but he doesn't need to behave like a first grade brat.

Jar Jar for sure

In all seriousness, as Cinco said, the problem is really Anakin, not Jar-Jar.

1) Find a late teens/early 20s actor who can play a little younger and who will be the face of the franchise for 3 movies.

2) Have him be 15 or 16 and Padme the same or slightly older so it's way less weird and she can feel genuinely attracted to him when he saves her entire planet from the Trade Federation. Imagine him wearing rags and dirty clothing the whole movie (and why don't they give him clean clothes on Coruscant, what the hell?) and then she sees him with the haircut and the Jedi robe at the end. Padme's all about that.

3) Show him on multiple occasions USING THE FORCE without even knowing what the Force is. They could have done so much with that during the Pod Race, especially after Qui-Gon tells Shmi "he can see things before they happen." I have always thought that the biggest miss was not having a scene where he taps into the Force during the pod race and they cut to Qui-Gon feeling it in the crowd, Obi-Wan feeling it back on the Naboo ship, and the real winner, Maul in the desert monitoring his probe droids, and he feels it too, and maybe is even a little freaked out by it - because he knows who the 2 Jedi on planet are, but this is something totally different. They could also have him using the Force to eff with Watto or in the deleted scene where he fights Greedo to give you that early hint of what's to come.

4) When he and R2 take off in the N-1, he should let R2 fly the ship at first, and then realize he can do it faster and better because of his Force skills, and blowing up the control ship isn't a fluke, it's him figuring out something with the Force and taking a crazy, but Force-enhanced shot, just like Luke does in ANH.

I feel better now.

I think the answer is simply that Filoni can handle animation but not live action. And most of the animation he's done is truthfully geared towards kids. Even Maul could be watched by kids who think Maul is cool from the Rebels episodes, etc that he's popped up in.

But I think its clear by now that Filoni should not be in charge of ALL SW content.

I agree with every bit of this. Implement Anakin's character in this fashion, and I have to believe The Phantom Menace is not raked over the coals every time it's mentioned now.
