For sure, the whole film really had a bit of a Raiders/Star Wars/80s vibe to it. Just so darn much fun.

Finally saw it. Definitely top 5 marvel movies for me.

I made the same comment to my wife that this almost felt like another Star Wars movie rather than a comic movie, and that's what ep1-3 should have felt like. That wasn't a complaint at all, just an observation. Loving what marvel is doing with the universe, and can't wait to see it start integrating. I really hope they start using AoS and other series' to explore more backstory on stuff like the Kree and other groups they're introducing but not really filling you in on...

Earlier someone mentioned batteries from the Walkman, and peters collection of earth stuff, and I attributed it to intergalactic trade... I'm sure someone like the ravagers pick up supplies from different planets and he would want to buy knick knacks he recognized from earth.

He seemed to make a lot of references for someone who was just 9 when he left Earth. I guess traders could have brought some more videos, etc as well.

One thing ruined this whole movie for me.

"Dance off, bro."

For all the callbacks to the 80s, "bro" in the context used is most familiar as a millenial turn of phrase. This anachronism is disappointing and irreversibly damages the credibility and effectiveness of the film.

I thought he made a lot of references for someone who hadn't seen these movies/shows/comics/etc. since he was 9 as well. That is just being nitpicky though.

Saw today.
Loved it.
But, the end credit is WAY overrated (not sure if already discussed on this thread).
The end credit is the type you tell your friends and family about then let them leave early while the fanboys stick behind -- my 2 cents.
Chris Pratt was perfect for the role.

Side note -- I kept thinking "OK, I know I saw Vin Diesel for credits, and I think it was Groot . . . but damn, Drax sure sounds like The Rock. Maybe I misread . . . Still confused. Paid too much attention to the voices. Tried to convince myself and confused. End credits, Dave Bautista --- never heard of but looks like the Rock. Maybe steroids and mixed ethnic sound the same?

The movie version changed the look because the comic looked like Daffy Duck iirc.

Actually, Howard looked too much like Donald. Now that Disney owns Marvel, it's not a problem.

Yeah Disney sued the hell out of Marvel which is why the movie version from the 80's is such nightmare fuel

but Disney owns Marvel so now Howard is a Disney Princess

I thought Bautista did an excellent job in his first big acting role. Delivered his lines with perfect timing.

Dave Bautista is a wrestler, so he has acting experience.

If you ever saw The Man with the Iron Fists, he was Brass Body. He was also in the third Riddick.

he was also in some horrid movie with RVD, but it was so bad I've blocked out all but that.

he doesnt have the overwhelming charisma that the rock brings, but I like bautista's delivery better. Everything is on time and nothing really seems forced.

Found this on mediastinger.com

quote:
After the credits of Guardians of the Galaxy, there is a short scene back at Knowhere with The Collector sitting in his destroyed base. Cosmo, a dog that was formerly a part of his collection, comes up to The Collector and licks his face. A voice offscreen remarks, “Why do you let him lick you like that?” The camera turns to reveal Howard the Duck (Seth Green), who says, “Gross.” Howard, also a former part of the collection, is sitting outside his broken display case on top of Adam Warlock’s cocoon. Director James Gunn has confirmed that Adam Warlock is a pivotal character in a future Marvel movie.

Another great bit of info from James Gunn:

quote:
Little spoiler for the audience, that tree dancing is me. I’m not motion-captured, but I’m motion-referenced and that is 100% me dancing… Honestly, that [scene] was supposed to be either mid-credits or end-credits, but when we showed it to the test audience, they loved it so much! We were like ‘We don’t want people walking out and missing this this,’ so we put it right there after the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Will Return’ thing.

More easter eggs here.

Cool. Basically confirms Adam Warlock as Quill's father, imo.

So can someone give a cliffsnotes bio on who Adam Warlock is?
The Debt

Basically he was a human living in a retirement facility in America until he started swimming in the pool that had an alien presence. Miraculously this gave him regenerative capabilities and he became virtually indestructible. However, every couple of decades he enters a cocoon of his own providing regenerative capabilities for those around him. This is why the collector keeps him, it preserves the rest of his displays.

For the purposes of the MCU, he will be a super-powerful immortal type being, probably with an Infinity Stone (Soul).

If they do indeed make him Quill's father, not sure how I feel about that. I guess in the sense of the movies as stand-alone products it might suit their storyline income. But viewed in the whole Guardians "universe" of work, it would seem to drastically alter Quill's motives for many of his actions (and consequently the Guardians actions) and Guardians storylines.

Quill is the son of the Spartax leader (J'son), who abandoned him as a child and now wants him to either take his place on the throne or otherwise die - these are constant major and minor plot lines and undercurrents in the comics. At least the current run, which is all I'm familiar with.

I watched it for the 2nd time last night in 3D. 3d is better.

The only new funny thing I noticed was that the red skinned chick that pops up in Quill's ship after the opening scene is wearing the shirt he was wearing in 1988 when he got abducted.

Fits much better with the ravengers calling him a jackass at the end.

Did anyone else think that at times, it sounded like Bradley Cooper was trying to channel Adam Sandler?

Ha, I didn't think that at the time, but I can see that.

To me it sounded more like Bradley Cooper trying to sound like a raccoon. Took me a while to not be taken aback a tiny bit by Bradley Cooper doing a voice.

Most fun movie I've seen in a LONG time. Did it all make sense? Of course not. But it's a comic book movie not some pretentious crap like that awful Prometheus.

I will say as someone who read every single Infinity Gauntlet tie in, Disney needs to get the X-Men if they want to do it right. Also, which company has the Silver Surfer? Kind of need him and his boss.
