Somehow the Feb 14th release date makes me really happy. Basically Marvel saying to their core audience "Who are we all kidding? You don't have any plans."

meh…I dont see it doing that well and personally don't plan on it unless I hear crazy amazing things about it….which after 3 (or 4?) rounds of re-shoots I'm not holding my breath

According to Production Weekly, which can sometimes be hit or miss, but is more accurate than not, this is the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, which apparently shoots this March through August. All italics/parentheticals are my own...

Main Returning Players
- Hayley Atwell
- Benedict Cumberbatch
- Robert Downey Jr. (Victor Von Doom)
- Chris Evans (Mystery Role)
- Tom Holland
- Anthony Mackie
- Elizabeth Olsen

Fantastic Four
- Vanessa Kirby
- Ebon Moss-Bachrach
- Pedro Pascal
- Joseph Quinn

Thunderbolts
- David Harbor
- Hannah John-Kamen
- Olga Kurylenko
- Florence Pugh
- Wyatt Russell
- Sebastian Stan

- Ana de Armas (Mystery Role)

... while these are just some of the names who are noticeably absent...

- Dave Bautista
- Paul Bettany
- Don Cheadle
- Charlie Cox (Matt Murdock/Daredevil)
- Vincent D'Onofrio (Kingpin)
- Harrison Ford (Thaddeus Ross)
- Karen Gillan (Nebula)
- Chris Hemsworth
- Tom Hiddleston
- Oscar Isaac (Moon Knight)
- Pom Klementieff (Mantis)
- Samuel L. Jackson
- Brie Larson
- Tatiana Maslany (Jennifer Walters/She-Hulk)
- Gwyneth Paltrow
- Teyonah Parris (Monica Rambeau)
- Chris Pratt
- Lewis Pullman (Sentry)
- Jeremy Renner
- Paul Rudd
- Mark Ruffalo
- Zoe Saldana
- Iman Vellani (Ms. Marvel)
- Letita Wright (Shuri/Black Panther)

Again, this is by no means official, as names from either list (in/out) could ultimately end up in either bucket. That said, by and large, this seems to roughly line up with current reporting/rumors, and can at least serve as a potential baseline/conversation starter going forward, with filming only a couple months away.

I'm fine with leaving the Guardians out, especially since they aren't really a thing right now. Could bring in one or two.

I also wonder if all the Thunderbolts will make it out of that film alive. I kinda hope so, since they're all still pretty much "new" characters to us. I'm glad these aren't ultra-confirmed, in the sense that everyone but Quicksilver was reliably confirmed for Civil War so we knew who exactly wouldn't be dying in Age of Ultron.

I guess this time the Russos get to pick who they want to bring back, rather than the end-all, everyone shows up kind of thing we got in Endgame. Which was great, but we don't need to go straight back to that well.

Guardians 3 credits did end with "The Legendary Star-Lord Will Return"

Could be cool if Chris Evans in playing old Cap.

Ford recently said he's ready and willing to do whatever else Marvel has in store for Ross, so his character presumably doesn't die. That is, unless Ford is lying. In other words, we're right back where we were, having no idea.

Also, Secret Wars comes out the very next year (May 2027). So any characters left out of Doomsday (May 2026) can always show up in Secret Wars.

Quote:

When Black Panther star Chadwick Boseman died of cancer on Aug. 28, 2020, it felt like time itself stopped in its tracks.

In the past 10 years, I can't recall a celebrity death that rocked the world like Boseman's passing did.

It was an absolute tragedy.

Rather than recast his signature role as T'Challa in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, Marvel wisely laid the character to rest and passed the mantle on to his sister, Shuri, played by Letitia Wright.
While Black Panther grossed $1.35 billion worldwide and was a bonafide cultural phenomenon, its 2022 sequel Black Panther: Wakanda Forever took in just $859 million worldwide. That's a difference of nearly half a billion dollars, and Wright didn't exactly endear herself to the studio during production.

My point is that with Marvel reshuffling the deck in advance of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars, and Robert Downey Jr. coming back not as Iron Man but as Doctor Doom, I'm told that the door is firmly open for T'Challa to be recast via the magic of the multiverse.

In fact, I heard that an actor was actually offered the role this past fall, a couple of months after Downey's big reveal at Comic-Con, but they turned it down, not wanting to jeopardize their career momentum by stepping into Boseman's gigantic shoes, which may be too big to fill, even for Hollywood's most talented Black actors.

But rest assured, someone will be willing to say "Yes" and pay tribute to Boseman with their performance.

Now, it's unclear whether T'Challa will appear in Avengers: Doomsday, or Avengers: Secret Wars, but I think it's fair to assume that whoever is cast as the character will reprise the role in Black Panther 3, which has been discussed by everyone from Ryan Coogler to Denzel Washington.

I also think it's fair to assume that it will be Coogler who helps Marvel boss Kevin Feige recast the role of T'Challa, rather than, say, the Russo brothers, who are directing the two Avengers sequels. I'm sure everything will be handled with the utmost care and in consultation with Boseman's family.

But based on what I'm hearing from agency sources, Marvel is on the hunt for a new T'Challa. A representative for Marvel did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

I mean, if they wanted to print money, just have a multiverse where Michael B Jordan ends up as Black Panther instead of Killmonger.

If you are looking for a new guy though, I say Aaron Pierre.

Jordan taking over would be great, and fitting with how Marvel plays the multiverse. Good suggestion.

Pierre is set to play a Green Lantern in the DCU (or whatever its called now). So unfortunately, while I like him a lot, I'd say that takes out of the running for BP.

Ok, follow me here.

Marvel needs a new black panther….

They need somebody with gravitas and name recognition.

Somebody that's well loved by marvel fans.

Somebody who we know can play the good guy.

Preferably somebody familiar with the marvel universe.

Marvel also needs a story line that allows Dr. Doom to acquire a **** ton of vibranium for doom bots…

I know just the guy to hire….again

Watch Ballers. Totally different guy.

I loved Tenet.

But I thought JDW was only okay in it. He was... fine.

With a more charismatic lead, though, and another actress in the main female role - with the two of them having actual, legit chemistry - I think the movie could have been an all-timer.

As is, it's a short guy trying to play tough, opposite a giant, wet blanket, praying mantis of a woman, and the two of them have zero chemistry, both physically and personality-wise. Had the lead and that relationship felt just a bit more... James Bond-ish... the movie could have been on a whole other level.

Nolan is usually incredible with his casting choices, but I thought he dropped he ball here.

(That said, Pattinson and Branagh are aces.)

What's funny is that I actually thought he was quite charming and charismatic in Tenet…then Pattinson showed up.

I like JDW fine…no, he's not Pattinson or his dad, but very few are

I mean he played a character named "The Protagonist" so it's not exactly like you had deep lore to build on. I thought he did well, considering it was a very bleak movie overall. Which is kinda interesting looking back because they had tons of cultural and exotic locations. But it comes off so cold.

It's no masterpiece by any means, but I really thought the kid is great in it, and it's a movie that makes you think. Which is exactly my bar for what a decent science fiction movie is. And the VFX are all really high end imo.
