WW comics got a real shot in the arm when they turned that book into a vehicle for magic and mythology in the DC universe. The movie, potentially, could do the same.
It has a very popular male lead to team with Gadot, who seemed to surprise many in BvS at how well she sold her role as WW. I know I was surprised how well she came off, especially given how pointless her appearance in the movie was.
It's all set in a time period that the world is sorta obsessed with right now (at least the Western world). We're seeing a lot of period dramas from around that era.
Like Suicide Squad, it has potential, but can WB/DC capitalize? The biggest problem that I see, like I mentioned earlier in the thread, is that to date no real rules have been established. As a viewer, I have no idea what "magic" is in the DC Cinematic Universe. We've seen WW already, but without ANY context. She's really just a flightless female Superman at this point. We saw a lot of magic in Suicide Squad, but we just sorta were asked to take it on faith. I, for one, don't necessarily equate Greek mythology with whatever sort of elemental magic we saw from Diablo and Enchantress. The WW film can absolutely establish those rules, and if it does, it will be fine. If Zeus shows up in the third act without any preparation, then people will hate the movie while fanboys say, "Duh, of course Zeus showed up! It's Wonder Woman!"
Big, big test for them.
Side note: How are they going to shoehorn Flash into Wonder Woman?
