Not horrible, not great. Will probably watch again next week and see where it goes.

I'm not quite sure what to make of this. Sutherland is good, wife is good, kids are alright, Maggie Q is playing a psychologist (I'm waiting for the moment for her to turn into Nikita-lite), and the majority of the rest of the characters are insufferable blowhards. Penn's character was alright, and I'm personally thinking that he won't stay a speech writer for too long.

I agree with Presley on his analysis. I was interested, but the entire scene in the bunker kind of turned me off from it. I thought probably one of the best scenes in the premier was when Sutherland's character met with the Iranian ambassador.

Im biased because this is one of my favorite things about the US Government. I really liked the pilot. There were some flaws that I chose to overlook but I understand how those could be annoying for some people.

Thought it was good enough to try next episode especially since do like Sutherland. Agree with others, it will not be a Muslim country or Islamist terrorist organization. Guess North Korea is a possibility since still PC to make them the bad guys, but in listening to President's speech mentioned the 1% for possible foreshadowing. Best guess is right wing radicals, global warming industrialists, evil white rich guys, or the military.

okay here's my theory. Its not a right wing group, military, rich white guy etc. What if its a group of democrats? They try and pin this on an ultra conservative right wing group in an effort to garner more support for the new democrats?

Made by NBC? They already made mention of their Politico branch as the definitive news source.

No way would the media ever paint the Democrats in a bad light.

The #1 most likely suspect, given the network, will be "right wing terrorists".

They might do North Korea, a random, made up non-Muslim country, or anarchists, but that wouldn't allow them to pimp their liberal message to the masses.

I thought it sucked. The premise was a good one, but the acting was mostly terrible, the characters were laughable, and the plot was just meh. If the series develops into a "Seven Days in May" kind of storyline that could be interesting, but the preview that followed the pilot suggests the rest of the series is going to be just as bad as the pilot.

It was good to see Gibbs all cleaned up and ready to bomb the Iranians. I'll continue to watch.

It's on ABC so I expect everyone to be so emotionally distraught from the attack that they can't function. It's hard to think when like six people you're sleeping with blow up at the same time.

Yep. I just watched the pilot. I guarantee you that FBI chick who keeps trying to call someone to see if they're ok is trying to reach someone she shouldn't be as emotionally involved with as she obviously is, maybe even the President himself.

I ,too, couldnt get over the fact that they took him to the White House immediately after.

And the entire FBI force set up camp right next to the scene of the crime? Seems dumb.

Also, when transporting the new president, why would they do it with a lit up escort of vehicles? If there was a terrorist group in town that you knew nothing about their whereabouts, wouldnt you move him in silence?

There were also some really predictable one liners. When the kid says "I thought you were taking me home?" I simultaneously said out loud "I am" with the FBI agent, haha. kinda cheesy.

All that being said, I really love the idea of this show. And I am not normally picky about cheesy things but a lot of these were just too blatant. I will keep watching and see where it goes.

The hottest chick on the show thus far is his assistant. If this were on a different network I would be predicting a possible affair. The wife and FBI agent are also good looking.

this would've made a much better plotline for 24 with Jack Bauer on the loose. i know they shot down air force 1 in season 4 or 5 and had the VP take over, but they never explored the designated survivor angle before.

i groaned when the took them to the white house. I mean, the bodies are still warm, and that is someone's residence. What happened to the previous first family? where they at the capitol as well? Not to mention the security risk. Bush hopped from AF base to AF base on 9-11 until they were certain DC was safe.

**Just curious, how fast did LBJ move in? How long did Jackie and the kids stay in the WH? where they out before the funeral?**

I also thought that it was odd that the designated survivor wouldn't have packed a suit. You would think that would be mandatory, as they would be sworn in pretty quickly, and would be a major photo op. Was also surprised that there were no photographers at the swearing in, only the guy with a blackberry. They would've had an assigned photog on scene regardless.

Keifer never says "I want my Chief of Staff brought in" she has to beg her way into the white house apparently. Though they never showed how she went from getting turned away at the gate, to standing in the oval office during the address to the nation.

I'm willing to give it a few more episodes. I remember how bad Agents of Shield was until it got rolling, and then it was great.

^ Agents of Shield only got interesting once Captain America - The Winter Soldier came out. Unfortunately for Designated Survivor, there is no such related movie coming out soon with some huge revelation (SHIELD is actually Hydra) to generate interest.

I finally got around to watching Dsignated Survivor last night. Generally speaking I enjoyed it. I liked the discussion between KS and the Iranian ambassador. I do not like what I know is coming - the villains will be whites, probably Christians, who are racists/sexists and all that other crap.

well, the whole point of the designated survivor is to ensure the transition of power. you would think that he would pack a suit just in case.

I agree with the above, it is weird that he would be dressed so casually, but that could be part of them trying to show you that he wasn't a typical politico type. I also found it odd that he was a cabinet member but had to have the term designated survivor explained to him.

I really did not care for West Wing and their liberal agenda plus the speaking pace of characters was like watching a musical.

Here comes the "poor, innocent Muslims" bull**** and making the Governor of Michigan (who in real life is a Republican) into anti-Islamic bigot.

So one whole episode before it start lurching left.

And based on the FBI chick's comments, it's looking like a US military false flag operation.

Morons on Twitter think this is an anti-Trump and anti-Republican message, and think this is exactly what the real Governor of Michigan would do.

Whether you like it or not, when you have a nitwit like Trump saying the things he does, it's not a huge leap. I'm a Republican and I'm just trying to watch the show to be entertained.
Rapier108
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I loathe Trump (you can read my comments on the politics board if you need verification) but the show has a blatant liberal slant.

I watch shows to be entertained and forget about reality for a little while. Designated Survivor is one I won't watch again.

this show had so much potential with concept, but i was afraid it would be so bias on political slant it would fail. It is really heading that way and it is sad. The whole MN thing was awful.

The politics don't much bother me (even if it is painting "my side" in a bad light), I just think the show sucks. The acting is horrible. I have zero buy-in or care for anyone in the show thus far.

As I said before, I am all in just because I like the topic. Even if the show sucks I'll see it to the end. I am glad they had the member of congress in this episode because it makes it a little more realistic. Typically both a Senator and Representative are chosen. Also over the past couple decades one or more SCOTUS Justices have skipped State of the Union Address. Not as designated survivors, but because they often disagree with the political/dog and pony show aspect of it.

So in real life if the entire government was wiped out you would still have all three main branches of the government represented.

I still like the show so far. Sure, the frowning neighbor followed immediately by the interaction with the cops was a little overboard, but profiling of Muslims is something that definitely happens after terrorist attacks, so not entirely unexpected. It may have been more likely for citizens or a militia group (instead of the state police) to tear through the Muslim community in Dearborn, but that was obviously written to create conflict between the prez and Michigan.

All in all, I'm more surprised that there isn't more chaos coming from the states. If there was an actual attack that whiped out the federal government, I feel like we'd have 50 countries working loosely together with neighboring states to figure **** out. The military would definitly be running the show in Washington.

But whatever, it's TV and Keifer Southerland. I'll be watching episode 3.

good point about citizens vs. police. It reminded me of this guy who targeted minorities after 9/11.
