I like the concept. How do you start a government over? New cabinet, Congress, Supreme Court. Interesting part of the show.
This is actually seldom the caseRapier108 said:
This is why the real designated survivor is usually Sec. of State, Sec. of Defense, or Sec. of Homeland Security.
I like this part of the show as well, but wonder how much detail and attention they will actually devote to it. Putting together a working Senate (one that has a quorum) would be relatively easy since 36 states allow Governors to fill a vacancy by appointment. The house would be more problematic since vacancies are governed by federal law and require elections to fill them. And of course, though you could put together a working cabinet, the positions wouldn't be official until a Senate was seated who could confirm them. Same with SCOTUS, though I suppose an argument could be advanced that all those vacancies could be filled temporarily with recess appointments.SW AG80 said:

Decent check your brain at the door show. I figure it'll end up like "Quantico". I got two episodes behind on that one, and just didn't care enough to try and catch up.
I love that we've reached a point in politics where people just make crap up and think it's true.Rapier108 said:

He did say he'd launch the missiles himself. Kinda Jack Bauer-ish.Drawkcab said:

I dont know that its all unbelievable. The people on the politics board have said the military in Texas would refuse to act against the citizens of Texas if martial law was declared here.mathguy86 said:
I'm out after last night. Presidents don't get to arrest people. They aren't law enforcement. Generals of state National Guard units that are nationalized don't get to ignore Presidential orders once nationalized. They get fired by the President as CiC and thrown in military jail. And the next guy in line moves up. And wash rinse repeat until someone decides to follow orders. And the Chair of the JCS would never act on his own. I don't mind suspending belief to watch a TV show. But last night just became pure fantasy.
