How long do you want to ignore this user?
We found out how he dies last week. He gets in a drunk driving accident on the way to see Rebecca and Kate is racked with guilt for encouraging him to go.

I was referring to this article. It says there is a cliff hanger and fans may not find out how he dies.

What if it isn't a drunk driving accident? He Sobers up on the way to see Rebecca and their van, driven by the ex, crashes into him?

They're hitting us over the head with a sledgehammer that he's to buzzed to be making this drive. If "sobering up while driving" makes him not most at fault at the moment of whatever incident, then sure. But they've pretty clearly set the stage for most of what's about to happen.

Which is why I think it isn't that is a strong possibility.

Most people assumed Kevin was headed to Sloane when he went to Sophie.

That is why it may not be a DD crash.

Drunk driving is too obvious for this show.

He'll get there and find her with Miguel. In a fit of rage, he drives away and gets into a car crash.

I'm wondering if the piano player who obviously has the hots for Rebecca is actually a stalker who shoots Jack in a fit of rage. That would be nuts!

That would be a good cliffhanger!

The thought had occurred to me that perhaps Jack gets hit by a drunk driver, as opposed to being the drunk driver. At least until I saw the teaser for the finale...

I think that whatever happens, the writers aren't going to have us end up thinking poorly of Jack as just another dumbass who drove drunk and killled himself. At least, I hope not.

I think it's in line with what they would want us to think about Jack. He's a great father who loves his family, but has some big flaws especially the drinking

I think the scene of him with the beer cans is after he makes it to Rebecca and finds something he doesn't like...

That's what I'm expecting. She'll be cheating on him with Band Guy.

It's why they made such a point to show him shutting down his coworkers advances. IMO

So... lets say she's caught cheating on Jack. Anyone think this is another secret being kept, a la William? In other words, if she cheated, do the kids know?

We saw the first time they saw each other, and (I suspect) the last time they saw each other. Although, who the hell knows with these writers...

Was good, but not what I was expecting. Now have to wait for a new freaking season
Tanya 93

That was not what I was expecting.

Now he probably dies in a construction accident.

BTW, something about Rebecca's attitude during their fight bothered me. It is like she thinks she is the only one in the marriage that has ever sacrificed.

Yeah, unlike most things these days, I feel This is Us has made him to be heroic and her to be...a meh mom. A lot of shows and movies are about dad bashing. I don't think Rebecca is being bashed, but he's definitely more often in a better light.

In her mind, Rebecca is the one who settled for less than she'd hoped for in life. I understand why she feels that way, but it was her choice. So, she should stfu and accept it.

Said about the guy who takes off on a 2 hr drive already drunk...then downs a 6pack on the drive.

And ask 25 people and 24 of them will probably say Jack is the better parent even after that.

ugh, not me. Actually drinking several beers while you are driving is just horrible and selfish. He could have killed someone. The thing that bothered me about the fight was that he tried to make her feel bad for not feeling fulfilled from being a housewife and stay at home mother. She shouldn't feel bad if she wants some sort of career outside the home and shouldn't be made to feel like a lesser mother for wanting that.

No excusing driving drunk at all. Period. They tried to convince us that's how he died, and that would've been tragic, but his own doing.

That being said, he didn't care she wanted a career or life. In fact, he supported it... until he found out she'd be hiding it was with her ex. I feel his outrage there is then justified.
Rev03
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Well, yes, he did try to be supportive but you could tell that secretly he wasn't into it. He said in his anger that she wasn't fulfilled by the family. I mean, they are both imperfect, in my opinion, is just what I'm trying to say.

The guy that went to the bar every night after work instead of going home and passed out shortly after getting home is so good at being a parent.

I am saying how he has been written throughout this season, most people see him as the better parent.
Rev03

yeah, they for sure initially presented him as this perfect, saintly guy. It's also difficult because we know that he died when the kids were still relatively young, and I think we tend to perhaps remember the people that we love for their good and not the bad parts about them (which I think is how it should be). I wonder if the show is kind of reflecting that since the memories they show are the ones of Jack being perfect with the kids because that's how the kids remember him. I think they are finally delving into some of his weaknesses. I mean, I don't think of him as this horrible guy (even though the drunk driving really, really bothered me) or anything and I do think that fundamentally he has good intentions, but I feel like maybe people might be a little harder on Rebecca than they are on him.

So, I read this theory - not really a spoiler since it's just someone's theory but I'll use the tags just in case The theory is that Jack dies in the 9/11 attacks. Some reasoning being that they must eventually move to the NYC area since Randall lives there and Miguel and Rebecca live there. And, the kids all seem to remember him as this hero figure. I don't know - what do y'all think? I sort of feel a little cringey about that idea but can totally see this show doing that for the emotional response.

In the previous episode, doesn't Kate say that his death was her fault? Might be something to keep in mind when throwing out theories or guesses.
duck79

I don't think that theory makes sense based on the age we know the kids were when he died.
