i hope this movie will be different from all the other revenge style movies we've been inundated with a la John Wick, Equalizer, Atomic Blond, etc.

Liev Schreiber and Dafoe were both good Clarks. I would think Gerard Butler would make a good Clark. Or even Jeremy Renner.
I always had Treat Williams or Powers Boothe or someone like that in my head as I read the book.

Probably not anyone right now that would my expectation. Gerard Butler is not a good actor. And Renner doesnt have the size/build. I hated Defoe as him CaPD.

Alexander Skarsgard tops my list
and I wasn't calling John Wick bad. Just noting that there was a flood of similar characters from most every ethnicity except Asian, which seemed weird since they seem to be a classic samurai tale.

I always had Clark pictured as a little rougher version of Brad Johnson, seen here seated next to Willem Dafoe

No idea, but IMO Ford was too old as per the description of the character in those books. And Patriot Games was hot garbage as a movie compared against the book; Clear and Present Danger was marginally better but still not in the same league as the book.azulAg said:

Ford was set to do Cardinal of the the Kremlin, but the plot was too complicated to get right. He was then set to do Sum of All Fears, but dropped out because he didn't like the script.

Maybe it's because it was the first one I read of Clancy's novels but I loved Executive Orders.
Spoiler - the movie makes a big deal of the female terrorist character. The female character appears on a couple of pages in the book, in other words no big deal except that Ryan identifies her via satellite because of her tits (which they did include the movie)azulAg said:

Hell yes! Have been waiting for this, agreed it will probably have to be toned down as I remember some of those descriptions of what Clark does to what's-her-names pimp are better brutal.

I've always felt like that role was meant for Tom Berenger. But he's too old. Liv Schrieber did a good job.
As long as they keep the character true to Clark's personality I don't care who it is. Hopefully this isn't another Reacher movie where they turn a quiet menace into a swaggering, wise-cracking show-off.
