I'm through to 4 in season 2 and am enjoying it.
It's not landmark TV by any stretch, but it's good enough for me.

Side note, for some strange reason, Lea Thompson directed episodes three and 4.

Anyone still watching this? I'm over half way through season 2 ( not sure how far along, honestly just care to look it up) and about midway through the episode and think I've had enough.

Such a waste of opportunity. It's like they took all of the worst episodes of TNG and made a season of it.
The most recent episode was terrible. A boring waste of time that completely halted any momentum that had built. l could do without most of the emotional analysis that has plagued the last few episodes. I feel like they're trying to stretch what is maybe a three episode story over a whole season. The main story itself is pretty solidly, so I'm gonna see it through.

I am stuck in the episode where he meets Guinan the 2nd time. I just can't get through it. There is so much political crap, I don't care at ALL about the new characters, the way guinan reacts (I will talk this alternate timeline issue if you want) I just CAN'T like it.

Finished it up tonight.
There were a few episodes I needed some heavy medicating to get through, but I enjoyed the last episode, even if some questions are unanswered, like how it didn't completely mess up the entire timeline of TNG (and by extension the start of this season) in like 3 different ways - Guinean, the Borg and Dr Soong/Data,
Also, I don't understand Larris being a look alike if it wasn't the same person - maybe it still is in some way?Or am I missing something?
The highlight of this season was Q though. He plays that part so well.

I was thinking about it, and it's pretty remarkable Picard hadn't retired sooner.
The dude had lived four lives and I'm pretty sure has in-canon retained the memories of all of them:
1. That life he lived when a probe makes him fast live a life on a dying planet (The Inner Light)
2. All of Sarek's life after Sarek mind-melded with him before dying (Sarek)
3. An alternate life where he is not stabbed by a Nausicaan and ends up living a pretty boring life (Tapestry)
4. Ohh and just his own, main life, that included assimilation by Borg where he near genocides Earth, and then de-assimilation; as well as having to defend all of humanity from a god-entity.
Dont know as much as the majority of posters on here but what about Star Trek Generations with the energy ribbon and he dies….enters the Nexus….and brings back Kirk

Season two isn't perfect, but I think it's a clear improvement over the first so far.

Also, this was released today regarding season three. Pretty cool.

Watching season two right now, but not gonna lie that trailer had me pumped!

Episode 4 was some of the absolute best Star Trek I've ever seen. What a breath of fresh air after the disaster that is Discovery.

  • Captain Shaw's monologue about meeting Picard was amazing
  • Picard telling Jack perhaps HE needed a connection, sharing personal details, and the realization at the end.
  • Entire senior officers working together to get out of the mess.
  • Riker being amazing as usual, but showing more range of emotions while not lacking professionalism
  • Seven is going to star as captain in her own Star Trek show one day. Way more charisma than Janeway

I think I "noped" out of season 2 mid way and still haven't seen it. I gave season 3 a shot based on some reviews and word of mouth.

Season 3 is a huge improvement over 1 and 2, but man, I hate what they've done with Riker and his "play it safe" style in the last couple of episodes.

I mean, I get it, I guess. It just seems so out of character that it is jarring and even annoying.

But whatever. It's finally a decent series and one I actually look forward to.

To be fair, they did show that he's been depressed all those years. I need to rewatch those bits though, I fast forwarded through.

And at least Riker was a pro and maintained his composure on the bridge. If this was discovery he'd be weeping all over in front of everyone.

TNG is my favorite show of all time and I haven't watched Picard just for that reason. The reactions in here are a mixed bag to say the least.

So, 3 seasons in now, is it worth it? Will it ruin my memories of TNG? I did hear that Data dies, which really turned me off to the entire show.

No pun intended I suppose.

Is it true what someone mentioned above that Seven is getting her own starship and a show?

I think they reactions in here are pretty consistent

In my opinion Season 1 was blah and Season 2 was bad, really bad( I also couldn't finish it like someone above said)

But Season 3 is what I would have wanted from the beginning ( note just like Season 4 of Enterprise was what everyone actually wanted, but I digress) Star Trek Strange new Worlds being so good made me watch Picard Season 3.

and no Seven is NOT getting her own show "yet" the poster said with how good the character has been will eventually get one in his opinion.

TNG is also my favorite show, and while I understand the shortcomings of Picard, I still liked season 1. Season 2 is meh, season 3 should have been season 1.

Seasons 1 and 2 aren't exactly the clean, crisp, competency porn of TNG, but it still is an improvement over Star Trek Discovery with everyone weeping and having an emotional crisis everywhere. You have the advantage of skipping over the slow parts.

Agree, Picard season 3 should have been the first one. But I understand the show runners hesitance on making what may be seen as TNG part 2, with 70+ year old actors. Still can't believe Riker is 70 years old.

There's also a rumor that this season of Picard is sort of a test for a spin-off series, now that Discovery has been cancelled. Seven would be captain, with Jack, La Forges kid, and maybe a few others as senior officers.

I'd love that as Seven would be more of a disciplinarian than Janeway, in the mold of Picard, compared to Pike.

Episode 1, Riker asking the bartender why there are so many Enterprise D models behind the bar.

They killed off Captain Rios who is the only person I was interested in seeing get a spinoff. I agree season 3 is lightyears better than season season 1 and 2 but it still isn't great. Patrick Stewart is just too old.

Thanks y'all. I think I'll take the plunge after I finish my Voyager rewatch.

I couldn't get past the first two episodes of Discovery when it aired several years ago and haven't been back since.

I've heard Strange New Worlds is great, so I'll check that out after Picard.

Yeah, what they did with Captain Rios really pissed me off. Seeing him appear as the captain of the Stargazer made me immediately think that he could get a spin-off, which I think would have been fantastic. I was absolutely stunned watching the end of the season finale and realizing there would be no show for Captain Rios.

Rios was the only interesting new character. The rest were really dull. The writers finally wised up and ditched most of them. Should've held on to Rios instead of Rafi. Don't know why she's still around.

I don't take pictures with many actors but when I work with a Star Trek actor I always get a picture with them. Michelle Hurd was the second I did not ask. The first I didn't ask was Shatner because I knew he would say no. But according to him, the experience is enough.

To be sure, Michelle Hurd is a great actor, I think she's doing a superb job playing a depressed junkie.

I just don't know what the point of her character is. At all.

They also could have just held on to Rios and used him as the captain they hitch a ride with instead of Shaw. They would have had to tweak the script as there would not have been confrontation with the captain, but the overall story wouldn't have changed.

I have nothing against Shaw, the character or the actor, but why introduce a new character when you could have just used one you already had that seemed to be well liked by the fan base.

Ah what a fun episode.

Totally unexpected TNG character shows up, Shaw is officially the comic relief this season, and tons of theories about what's got into Jack, literally.

It was also amazing to see Picard revert temporarily to the solemn, disciplinarian Star Trek officer we know and love.

While I enjoy seeing the gang back together again, I am glad this is the final season because CBS can only tug on the member berries for so long.

Having said that, the writing for this show (this season) has been fantastic. I hope Seven gets her own show as a captain. Her screen presence and character are fantastic and would be better than Janeway IMO. Maybe have Picard's son as security officer or something.

Speak for yourself, I wouldn't mind a couple more season now that the writers seem to have gotten the hang of it

That being said, yeah a spinoff with Seven, Jack, kid La Forge, some other young officers and maybe a couple of TNG folks as consultants is probably what will happen.
