The complaints here had me skeptical before I watched the trailer, but I'm in. It probably won't be considered classic cinema, or even close for that matter, but I'm a sucker for movies where America triumphs while a dramatic score is playing in the background. I felt patriotic just watching the damn thing.

This would be a seriously mis-leading title, given how the Americans put 4 of the 6 aircraft carriers responsible for Pearl Harbor on the bottom of the Pacific Ocean.

Which reminds me of a great quote I read from Admiral Bull Halsey, where he claimed that we (America) was perfectly willing to share the Pacific with the Japs. We would take the top half and they could have the bottom half.

My grandfather was an Avernger pilot on the Midway and he survived so I dont think Gay was the only one...

Thanks for posting. Will watch no matter what, but just from the trailer its obviously full of really crappy and historically innacrate cgi.

They should just make it a cartoon.

Hopefully it will sill be good.

But i tell you what, pearl, midway to doolittle is really hard to pack in 15-20 hours, much less 3

If anyone hasnt seen tora tora tora, thats what blowing **** up actually looks like.

Also, watching a cool documentary, war in the pacific eagle against the sun. Has more cool video than anything ive seen on disciver or history channel.

I'd rather see Midway done as a mini series. This is the biggest naval battle in history and a 2 hour movie isn't going to do it justice.

The more I watch the trailer the more I think it's going to be bad. Don't get me wrong, I'll see it but just don't have much hope. One thing I want to know is how much time they are going to spend on Pearl Harbor, the Doolittle Raid and Midway since the trailer is showing all three or how long is the movie that all three events will be covered?

I wish all war movies could hold up to band of brothers standards, and hate cgi....

Then again i look at the audience and just grateful for the good ones we get. Hell, wifey and i were watching one of those singing talent shows, and some 30 year old dude they shipped to hawaii was saying 'pearl harbor? I thought that was just some movie?'

Just visited the Midway a few weeks ago. They had a nice short movie experience and that was my understanding as well.

Oh, also, Pearl Harbor was a terrible movie. Can't believe I found a fanboy thread.

Posted this on the History Board thread about the movie, but three down pilots/aircrew were pulled from the ocean by the Japanese. They were interrogated, and then were bound, had weights tied to them, and were then thrown overboard. George Gay was a very lucky man to not
Only survive the assault but to be so close to the Japanese and stay unnoticed.

Jesus.

I understand those experiences where not unusual when dealing POWs in Japanese custody but there is no way I can fathom surviving combat then a crash only to be interrogated then drowned...

I feel like we should hold a grudge as a nation longer against former foes...

Has to be at Midway as the USS Midway did not exist in 1942.
