saw the movie yesterday.

overall, for a modern movie, it was surprisingly good.

the 76 version should be embarrassed to have more pathetic sjw bull**** than this 2019 movie, which had none.

i'd love to have developed some things in more depth, but i am a rate person who doesnt mind long movies.

my only complaint really was the kill and large explosion count, filled in by some faintly cartoonish cgi -- this was a bit much at times.

but in some scenes it was great, and the visual detail accuracy was really good.

overall, grateful for hollywood's effort to add another truly good movie to their list.

I am torn, I want to see this movie but I can't stand Ed Skrein.

i've never heard of him or seen him before, but i thought he did a decent job with limited character development time. he was the main protagonist and carried it off ok.

Thanks for posting. Enjoyed that new perspective. Had never heard of our b26 kamikaze. Saw it in the movie. Who was that? An American hero for sure.

A good read on a surviving b26

I expect no one knows which pilot tried to hit the bridge of the Akagi. Only the gods of the sea.

Saw it today with my family. My daughter's are not it into history (I didn't tell them anything about it, just that I think it would be good) and they thought it was great. Definitely a movie you should see in the theater. I went in with mediocre expectations (got burned by Pearl harbor) and was presently surprised.

I watched GoT and still have no idea who he was.

He was the dewshy Daario for one season. He was replaced by a new actor without explanation in later seasons. I assumed because he was so cringe worthy.

OK, Wiki had a photo of him as Daario. I vaguely remember him. Thanks!

I didn't know who he was either because I think HBO is kind of overpriced.

Grrat movie. No real romanticism with the war, just a good action movie. Highly recommend.
Nope. Very matter-of-fact.

IMO, it would have helped quite a bit if they'd identified who was who when they appeared on screen. Just for that little bit of assistance in following the who-what.

That was my one big issue with it.

Saw this Friday night and thought it was one of the worst I've seen in a theater in a long time. The acting was terrible, even from the bigger names actors. It had to be the script/direction, because it felt forced and put together like a student film. The cgi was bad. The story was convoluted and jumpy and gave you nothing to latch on to or really root for...except America, but that was history, not the movie doing that.

I liked it. The dive bombing scenes had me squirming in my seat.

Every once in a while it had a video game feel to it when the characters would meet, exchange a few lines, then a scene would happen.

However, the most important thing to me was that when it was over, my 16 year old son just sat there for a few minutes without saying anything while the credits rolled.
I finally said "These movies don't have post credit scenes like the Avenger movies".

My son was barely able to say the words "I know" without his voice cracking.

On the way home we were talking about the movie, the people, and the actual event and he said "During those dive bombing scenes, were your toes curling up like mine"?

The fact that it had an effect on my son in that manner is priceless.

As the credits were rolling my 9-year-old grabbed me and said, "Dad, for like the last 20 minutes I had to pee really bad, but I held it because the movie was so good!"

Saw this last weekend and was disappointed. Could have been so much better, for all the reasons listed previously. Also, what was up with the heavily wrinkled and poor fitting Navy khaki uniforms?

A much younger female friend of mine who knows nothing about the military mentioned the uniforms in her comments to me. I agree completely. I have seen a lot of WWII movies and never seen anything like that.

Cotton uniforms and sea air.

Saw it last night and was very pleased with it. Good CGI. The close grouping of the plans during the attacks was unrealistic but it added to the overall effect of the attack scenes. I agree that having captions identifying the characters when they first came into the story would be a good addition. As a WWII history buff, I pretty much knew who they were after a second or two. Overall a good movie and I will purchase it on blueray when it comes out.

Finally saw this today.

I didn't want to like it actually and the first hour or so was a rehash if several other movies on Pearl, Doolittle etc.
but I did like how they brought some new stories in - Best, McClosky among others And overall ended up really liking it.can see why the critics didn't, but sometimes they are pretty jaded, this movie wasn't going for best picture.
