Altered Carbon

Powered through like 4 episodes over a few months hoping it would get good. Never did.
Consider me STUNNED!

Big Bang Theory is like watching Nerdface comedy.
Reality shows ... unless they have some compelling historical element. i.e. Churchill's Spies
Talent shows ... though I do enjoy "blow me away" clips from them
We typically avoid Cop/Crime TV shows (60% of shows) unless the setting is interesting.
Tarantino movies.
Shows where you are cheering for the bad guys.

So you DO or you DON'T like Tarantino movies?
Do not like Tarantino movies.

The only one I can say I truly enjoyed was Inglorious Basterds - and I liked it a lot.

I don't get any of these diverse family series that seem to dominate the sit-com realm these days.

Hallelujah. So boring, sad, and depressing.

Theme song is "suicide is painless".
OTOH, the original movie was really good.

I'm on episode 4 of Stranger Things, and am ready to quit it. Hang in there or bail if I don't like it by now?

I loved the first season of Stranger Things.

I'd pretty much lost all interest by the time season 2 rolled around though, I don't think I even finished the first episode of season 2.

i didn't care for it. Other than the girl, I thought the acting was awful. Plus I'm not into 80s nostalgia.

Same. The little I watched was utterly terrible. I mean BAD.

How I Met Your Mother is another one. So trite, lazy, and condescending. It's "Big Bang" level bad.

3 really good takes right there!

Grace and Frankie
The Wire

Are You Being Served? (did not age well)

I stuck with Letterkenny, but the wife bailed after three episodes.
She also couldn't handle any more George from Seinfeld a few seasons in.

Bro... What DO you watch...??
In all honestly, if I had started Parks & Rec with season 1, I doubt I would have made it past the first few episodes. It got better with season 2 and became outstanding when Rob Lowe and Adam Scott joined.

But that first season................

Most are just simply terrible.

It's not that the posters here don't "get" the show.

It's that they don't "get" why the show is so popular or acclaimed.

It's usually not that difficult to determine why a show is popular, or acclaimed.

I concede that it can be, but still I think one can do so, generally and with confidence, well before the end of the first season.

The Pulse during Sumlin's tenure. Most every year it started out fine but got unwatchable by season's end. Unfortunately, the first episode of the Sumlin's last season was a change but in the wrong direction

If you really want to watch a show that is not funny in the least but it is 100% a "comedy skit show". Try watching LOL. It was created in Canada and is no longer being produced, but the Estrella Spanish network carries it and shows it every day.

It's a silent comedy where there is no dialogue, so you don't need any translation. But I have forced myself to watch probably 3 hours worth of that show from times where I have stumbled across it on a spanish tv station,, desperately trying to find 1 skit that I found funny, and amazingly could not find one.

It is pretty crazy, you would think that accidentally they would make at least one funny skit over all their episodes. Fake laugh track and all.

i enjoyed the first season of Orange Is The New Black. Second season less so. Fought through most of season 3 then abandoned it. I do not get the hype around that one.

This is me. We watched the first two or so episodes years ago and have never been back. Everyone says just skip season one and go straight to two.

I tell everyone I recommend the show to, to skip season 1. Season 1 is like The Office season 1, except somehow significantly worse. Season two is still a drop in quality compared to the rest of the seasons, but it is remarkably better than season 1. Seasons 3-6 are on par with any of the best seasons of the office.

Dancing with the Stars. Can't imagine even trying to watch an episode.

I used to be that way, but my wife is big into dance and I watch it with her sometimes. It's more to just pass the time waiting for the next season of So You Think You Can Dance. My wife helps me understand all the different styles, what's good and what's not (I disagree with the judges on half of them.. I'll never understand how something so subjective can be so polarizing. I would be laughed out of the audience, yet some of the dances make me cringe.). The thing I do hate about these shows is the incredibly fake virtue signaling and "tell all contestants how fantastic they are after listening to their sob story".

And I'll second the "all cop / FBI / detective shows. The acting is always awful. The plots are weak and predictable. The timelines never add up. Everything is too convenient. Literally none of these shows is any good outside of Mind Hunter. What makes that so good is the psychological and historical aspect along with fantastic acting and great writing.

And I'm sorry, but I'd watch Gilmore Girls a million times before Friends or Seinfeld. I don't care for cheap, hardy har, laugh track humor. But clever writing and quick witted acting is always enjoyable. Not that Seinfeld and Friends weren't clever.. it was just extremely dumb humor.

Go ahead and crucify me.

I know, it's easy laugh at on it's face. But for a chick show it is extremely well done and doesn't have to rely on cheap humor or cues that tell you when to laugh.

Hard concept, I know.

I assume it is a very good show based on the reviews and following. But it's a drama or dramedy and you said you prefer it as a comedy to seinfeld or friends.

I just Said I preferred it. I never called it a comedy. I was pointing out the type of shows that capture my attention and the kind that make me roll my eyes and turn the channel. And I'm not saying Seinfeld and friends are awful shows. I get why other people like them. I just don't, no matter how many times I try.

Right. and every cop or mob show is fake and predictable except the ONE you like. Thx. This will make your sports meltdowns much more enjoyable.

Cop shows are dumb. Not surprised you like them. Or cheap humor that has to signal you on when to laugh.

Don't forget Reno 911, which was the best cop show ever.
