"Ridley Scott and pat riley" - an ordering of words I never expected to see in a sentence in my lifetime

Just saw it. Didn't like it. At all. Incredibly, over the top abrasive. I get it. Gambling is bad. Owing money to people who beat you up is bad. Being a habitual liar is bad.
I liked KG in the movie. The rest, nah. I'm out. Why even write this screenplay? If everyone is a scumbag and there is no point in anything... do we REALLY need ONE more nihilistic movie like this?

Went yesterday. What a thrill ride start to finish. Kept looking at the SO a few times just shocked at what Sandler was pulling off in the film.
Only con to me was the very end/closing credits. I wanted a few more things but understood why they went the way they did.
Highly recommend it!

I still haven't seen Good Time, but will be remedying that soon. The Safdie Brothers are going to be making great movies for a long, long time. These guys are the real deal.

This movie easily comes into my top 3 of the year with Endgame and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. What a fantastic film. Any chance it gets a best picture nod?
He kidnapped an armed man he owed major money for hours. It makes sense IMO. The fact that it was so shocking made it so good.Redstone said:

I love the look of the Safdie Brothers films. Also, this movie had a lowkey amazing soundtrack/score.
Welp, guess I need to see Uncut Gems. My top two of 2019 currently are also Endgame and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.Sex Panther said:TCTTS said:

I saw it both times at the Alamo, which skews to more cinephiles. I didn't notice anyone hating it. I think everyone was just pushed to their limits.TCTTS said:
That said, I took my parents, one of my sisters, and my brother-in-law earlier this week and they all HATED it. My dad loves Apatow and Apatow-adjacent movies (i.e. he doesn't mind language or crude subject matter in the least) and is usually into stuff like this, but was just not a fan at all.

While I agree with everything in your post, crappy person gets what he deserved, tension galore, story told in an extremely tense and immersive manner.TCTTS said:
Very well said. I don't get the "no redeeming qualities" gripes either. Or, rather, I understand the observation that there is nothing redeeming about the characters, but what I don't understand is why some people need a redeeming character in the first place. It's an INCREDIBLY griping, well-told story, one told against such a vivid, authentic world, and personally, that's all I ever need or want from a movie. I could not care less if the characters themselves are good/bad/redeemed/whatever. Besides, those looking for some kind of "moral" ending, you got it. Sandler's character essentially gets a bullet to the head for the horrible, addictive person he was. He paid the price.
