I'm not saying they hate him. I just don't think they'd give it to him due to the rest of his body of work. Especially the stuff on Netflix.

It's a stacked deck this year and I just don't see them giving it to him. But maybe he has enough friends in the Academy to get him through.

He was a producer. The Safdie Brothers said him coming on board meant they finally had the green light. I believe that's when Jonah Hill became attached to the project, but then Sandler eventually wanted in after seeing Good Time.

Did you see this one? Because it's unlike all of his recent ones on vacation with his friends.

You couldn't pay me to end a sentence with "lol".

Except for that one.

I think they were just hired muscle by Arno, because of the way Howard says "You're sending collectors after me?" like they were Arno's collectors on the VM at the first of the movie.

Someone mentioned (I think in this thread) that the $100,000 that Howard owes Arno is possibly the $100K he used to buy the opal. The VM lends to this theory as Howard mentions that he is closing the deal of his life.

I like this theory because it makes Howard more sympathetic IMO. That it wasn't just gambling debt. It was actually debt he was going to profit from.

I still haven't seen Good Time, but will be remedying that soon. The Safdie Brothers are going to be making great movies for a long, long time. These guys are the real deal.
Dude...I think you should give Good Time a shot...this doesn't look like a sequel, but looks like it's set in the same world. Not just New York, but the Safdie Brothers' fictional/stylized version of New York. I got strong vibes of Good Time in this. Although I bet this is more polished.

And Benny Safdie did an AMAZING job playing Robert Pattinson's special needs brother who just can't catch a break. Prob the most realistic portrayal of a special needs person I have ever seen.

Finally watched it tonight. Damn good, and I totally get the praise, but honestly, I think Gems is on a completely different level. Both movies are great, but the leap the Safdie Brothers made between the two is huge. Still, yeah, Benny Safdie is incredible as a special needs person. Before you mentioned it, and I watched the movie, I had no idea he even played the brother, as it had been forever since I'd seen the trailer. Man, these guys are talented.

Yep, I really dig these guys. They seem like pretty cool down to earth dudes who just love what they're doing.

And that's one thing I almost said up above, this Uncut Gems movie looks similar in some ways (setting, cinematography, synth music etc.) but looks like an even better movie with better production, story and obviously better cast. Good Times seems to wonder at times, almost like a Harmony Korine movie.

They were just held hostage for a long time. KG was in the office when they came in and they were locked in there the entire time. Likely something like 5 hours. They were hot, sweaty and pissed off. I think he's just a small time crook who snapped.

Good Time was excellent. More raw and much simpler. Loved the ending.

How long will this be out? Will it still be out in Dallas next weekend? I'm hoping to see it then but Flixster and the theater websites won't show me showtimes for my theaters that far out. If it was going to be gone, then I'd probably go tonight. I'm assuming it would still be out considering it's been less than a month.

It should still be out, but there's really no way to know, especially with the first two big releases of the year hitting next weekend (Bad Boys for Life and Dolittle).

Thanks. Guess I'll chance it and hope it stays out. I would think angelica would show it for a while, but I can't tell from their website.

It's still filling theaters in my area. I suspect it'll have a few more weeks for sure.

It felt like Meet the ****ers where it seemed liked everything was going wrong and he couldn't catch a break... but not in a funny way. I thought it was really good. My boss in college was a poor gambler. He'd bet on college games each Saturday. If he won, he'd try to keep his hot hand going for NFL Sundays. If he lost, he'd try to make up his money. It's a terrible addiction for some and it's hard to see the family it affects.

Yeah. I kept thinking "what more could go wrong" for this guy but in a worse way.

I like it but not sure if I'll ever watch it again.

1. I want to see Adam Sandler in more serious roles

2. I want to see a full length movie about the life of street entertainers / carny folk / Renn-festers, behind the scenes, reality-based fiction.
