At some point I'll probably watch this film...with 3 young boys R rated films are hard to make time for right now.

but Adam Sandler strikes me as a guy who knows how talented he actually is but would rather do what he enjoys than what he's actually good at....kinda like his character Sunny Koufax in Big Daddy.

The guy is damn good. And I hope this is a sign of him turning a corner and seeing him in roles we Happy Gilmore fans could have never dreamed of

Saw this tonight and loved it. No chance to catch your breath the entire movie. I love gambling and gambling movies, so I figured i would like it. My wife liked it too but not as much as I did.

This and parasite are my favorite movies of 2019. I'd probably still rank parasite above it, but it's close.

Girlfriend and I walked out of this movie tonight. Easily one of the worst movies I've ever seen

Translation:

Girlfriend didn't understand what was going on or just wasn't into it, so she wanted to leave. Me in desperate need of wanting to get some, accommodated her wishes and told her we could leave...

What point did you leave? What did you not like about it? Most importantly, did you get your dick wet?

Man this movie was awesome. After reading the first page of the thread and learning that I wanted to see it, I was careful not to spoil any other details, so needless to say, that ending had my jaw hanging open.

That acting job by Sandler was truly fantastic. I bought in from the very first scene.

The story itself was so well done. The movie did a great job of keeping you uncomfortable and off balance. There kept being moments where you thing "oh, I've seen enough movies to know what's about to happen here" and then it would always be something slightly different, or something completely different, or a very muted version of what you thought was coming, or.. nothing at all. And because of that, I loved it.

A world full of hustlers, liars, rich people, combinations of those three... no one is dependable, no one thinks normal rules or conventions apply to them. It's so stressful and frustrating to watch all of it happen yet you can't stop watching. It was just impressive to me how this movie did all that but without being too over the top. And then that's why the final over the top moment was so crazy.

https://uproxx.com/movies/adam-sandler-reason-no-oscar/

Quote:

"That [performance] was a tour de force. He's emerging as a truly great actor, but then he does cheesy Netflix comedies that are really dumb," they said. "There are a lot of movies, a lot of performances per year for us to watch. Unfortunately, actors become brands. Sandler's brand doesn't scream 'Oscar,' but Leo DiCaprio's and Jonathan Pryce's do."

I think the Oscars are always fun to try to guess who the winners will be, but it annoys me every time I think about the actual politics of the whole thing.

I asked my dad if he wanted to go see this movie with me after we got home from my in-laws house after Christmas. He likes seeing movies that come out on Christmas. A few years ago we went to see Django Unchained.

Anyway, he ended up going to see it before I got back from Houston, without me, and then called me later telling me it was the worst movie he has ever seen.

Seems to be either people think this movie is great or awful. Nothing in the middle. I still want to see it, but interesting nevertheless.

I loved this movie. Went back and watched Good Time, one of the other Safdie movies and enjoyed that one quite a bit too

We watched this last night. I liked it, but my wife said I've lost moving picking privileges for a while.

We streamed it from a friend's plex. Whatever copy he had the audio was really annoying with the background music being incredibly loud and often drowning out the vocals.

It was like that in the theater, too.

Finally got around to seeing this tonight at the Cinemark in CS which leaves the theater tomorrow here. My buddy and I were the only two people in the entire room which made it all the more enjoyable.

I can't think of a single thing I didn't like about this film and also dug the Q&A in the diner after. That wasn't shown during the initial release run of the film was it?

Highly recommend and would watch again for sure. 8/10 IMDB.

Finally saw this. Good movie, but exhausting to watch. Sandler was really good.

I didn't like the soundtrack at all...it was just a lot of noise added to an already noisy movie.

Very good movie. I enjoyed it.

That stated, I thought the "surprise ending" was pretty transparent. Saw that coming a mile away.

Don't know what to tell you stud. Seemed pretty obvious given all that had transpired in the minutes leading up to it. Notice I didn't say it was a bad movie or anything of the sort.

I agree with this take. KG was very good too. And while I had a strong feeling it wouldn't end well for Howard I wasn't quite expecting his ending when it happened.

Watched last night.
I knew nothing about it going in except that Sandler wasn't going to be over the top funny.
Frustratingly stressful from start to finish, but a pretty good flick.

I'm a bit of a gambler and just lost my gambling buddy to a heart attack. He was like Howard. Using the rent to hit big to pay them all off, but instead of doing so, just parlaying the action. The opening tip to start a three-way for that kind of money? Mike would have loved it.

Watched it last night. Very good and entertaining movie. As previous posters have said it was tiring and a lot of "action" without being an Action Movie.

Sandler was great. I cant believe people actually live that lifestyle but I'm sure they've been doing it so long it just becomes their everyday life.

There's no doubt Howard would have lost/squandered it all away (again). Those types can't help themselves.

Did not like the Stranger Things - like synth music going on throughout the movie.

Did the rest of the family - Judd Hiram and Sandler's wife, etc - know about the debt owed between Arno and Sandler?
Couldn't decide if I like Demare(?)'s character or not.
Guessing this is based on real life - jewelers hire friends of high profile friends to bring them into their stores knowing they will drop 6 digits for chains, watches, and bling.

Sandler should have been nominated for an Oscar. Julia Fox is definitely foxxy. KG has some acting chops. I need a double shot of whiskey and a smoke after watching that. Now it's 1 am and I can't sleep because I made the mistake of starting the movie at 10 pm.

All of his family (including FIL) pretty much loving him despite knowing he was a degenerate was where I could have used a bit more fleshing out. As a viewer we saw flashes of his charisma but he was so unlikable that without seeing a more redeemable side of him I think the wife and father in law would have started hating him a decade before the movie takes place.

I'd love a prequel that brings us more into his world. 15 yrs before this film you gotta think times were great and he was big ballin. The character might turn Into Jewish Kenny Powers if we saw him having too much success, though.

Just watched it last night, if a movie can create real emotion in the viewer like this one, even if the emotion is uncomfortable that's a pretty great thing.

I'm not talking about gross out horror like hostel that are basically just using gimmicks.

A lot of spoilers in this thread...glad I didn't read it back then.

And penultimate doesn't mean more than ultimate by the way.

the ending...

getting killed was probably the best thing for him, he was never changing and he'd have blown the money anyhow, at least he went out happy. His brother in law on the other hand
