I had always heard one should hold off until you finish all existing Mistborn books before tackling Secret History since it can spoil some stuff from Bands of Mourning.

Only if you connect the dots, fortunately i was too stupid to. But it is probably worth waiting and reading through bands of mourning first.

I just reread all of the Mistborn books + Secret History.

By connecting the dots, do you mean

Kelsier started working with Sppok to combine allomancy with feruchemy, presumably in an effort to get back to the physical realm right? And if true, I'd never have guessed it without the hint from Sanderson

I know all of you are reading new stuff so I'm avoiding spoilers, but just wanted to say that I'm only about 20% through my re-read of Way of Kings and there is so much stuff you don't pickup until the second read. I know it's likely been discussed before but even the intro where it describes the events of Gavilar's assassination has a "oh wow" moment that on the first read just seemed like a few throw-in lines.

That and the fact that he and not the Lord Ruler is the Sovereign of the Southerners. Honestly it's just great that he's still part of the Cosmere still.

Mine has been out for delivery all day, but is projected to be here within the next hour.

I had to work instead of read today

Kindle version won't download. Click to buy, nothing happens, works for the sample though. Maybe some server issue.

Ok so my payment method was messed up so I got it figured out. Apparently I totally missed that Dawnshard exists, so I need to read that before delving into Rhythm of War

I recommend it. I'm about 150 pages into RoW and it seems to be set a least half a year after Dawnshard. It is cool to know where some of this tech came from, because they reference what happens in Dawnshard.

I am so apprehensive, reading this book. I just know characters are going to die.

My copy still isn't here.

For those of you reading it It's good though, right? I read all the preview chapters and liked them.

I'm trying to savor this, but I find myself blowing thru chapters. So so good. Frustrating at times, but it's bc BS has written such great characters that feel real with real human issues.

Maybe it's because it's the first new cosmere book in a long time, but so far I feel like Sanderson said, "Screw it. I declare Roshar to be built. Cosmere. Built. You wanna know more about it? Here. Knock yourself out". Just nuggets and cosmere exposition all over tarnation. It's magnificent

Better than #1? Sitting on my kindle but I have a few other books to read before it.
“There is no red.
There is no blue.
There is the state.
And there is you.”

“As government expands, Liberty contracts” - R. Reagan

Depends on how you rank them I suppose. WoK may be my favorite followed by Oathbringer, and not sure where this one falls yet. Having said that, it's like picking your favorite player from the Dream Team. The answer doesn't really matter because they're all freaking amazing and heads and shoulders above the rest.

For those still asking the question about Dawnshard, I like her explanation of it and agree with her. No spoilers in this video:

Funny Words of Radiance is my favorite, I could see an argument for any of the first 3. Still working on my reread so no RoW yet.

Maybe it's my "completionist" like of thought, but for me there's no way I'd read RoW before Dawnshard. I know RoW is anticipated, but I think reading Dawnshard beforehand will make the payoff even better.

Again, that's just me. Do what y'all want!

Online there seems to be a consensus for WoR being #1. And while I agree to it's awesomeness, I probably struggle with Kaladin screwing up the plan at end of the duel and the Moash stuff. That said it did evoke a feeling for sure. I'm also a Dalinar homer and so that's probably what puts WoK and O higher for me..
maverick2076
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Oathbringer is probably my favorite. Dalinar's journey is just so good. But really, ranking the Stormlight books, even including the novellas, is like ranking 1A through 1E (and probably 1F once I finish RoW). Sanderson is just that good.

After finishing part 3 of RoW I'd say read Dawnshard before starting RoW. At least one of the interludes isn't going to make much sense if not.

I'm really enjoying RoW but I'm not crazy about the flashback chapters, at least not yet.

I dunno, Sazed doesn't trust Kelsier any further than he could throw him. Could it be Wax?

If so, Wayne better come too, purely because I want to see him interact with The Lopen.

Finished RoW.
My least favorite so far by a large margin but still enjoyed it. Awesome start. Slow and sluggish at points. I very much disliked the flashbacks. I found myself speed reading as quickly as I could to get past them.
Everything paid off at the end though. Just feel some points could have been made faster.
This book felt very much like a huge set up for next book. Which almost upsets me...I waited the last couple years for a filler book and gotta wait longer to get to the story.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
If you get upset waiting two years for over 1k pages, think how Rothfuss and Martin fans feel.

I'm not upset. Just meh.
This book could have been 600-800 pages. I personally felt it dragged on. Good book but I had higher hopes.
But true. Sanderson is killing it. I am picking up more of his works. I'm hooked on the Cosmere.
maverick2076
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'm just starting part 3, but this book has huge payoffs for those who have read the other Cosmere books. I read most of them late, but I'm really glad I read them before reading RoW. I can see the connections not being as strong for someone who hasn't delved into the greater Cosmere.

I remember Tor put this out before Oathbringer to summarize the two previous books. They could do something like this again before the fourth.

I'm a sick man, I reread the entire series every time a new book comes out.

I do, too

Me too. Getting to be kind of a big commitment. Think I started in September this year.
