It's about a paranoid delusional schizophrenic homeless guy who is stalking a random chick he sees in a crowd.

He asks everyone if they've seen her and they ignore him (obviously). One guy tells him to look at the beach just to screw with him, so he starts examining footprints (like a crazy person). He even loses time and ends up in a small town in the desert with no idea of how he got there, and nobody wanted to help him (because he was a gross insane homeless person).

When a Man Loves a Woman - Percy Sledge (and later by Michael Bolton)

It's not a love song.
It's actually about a man who has been manipulated and beaten down by a woman who is taking advantage of him. She's used him for his money and bankrupted him. She destroyed his life for her own personal gain with no remorse. She made him alienate all his friends and destroy those relationships because they were trying to warn him. The song is about him finally realizing the truth and warning others.

Everyone knows the chorus, but the verses aren't as well known and put a very different spin on the song. It's really about the heartache of spurned lover who is experiencing the first 4 stages of grief. The last line of the anger & depression verses are especially dark in my opinion.

Verse 1: Denial

But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken
So I hung my head and I cried

Verse 2: Anger

YES!!!!! I hate this song and have long said it's NOT a love song, it's about two people wanting to cheat on each other and getting caught.
