This one's interesting because the lyrics are intentionally misleading.

This one's interesting because the lyrics are intentionally misleading.

This was a huge deal when I was in eighth grade. I vividly remember the breathless DJ on KEEL defending playing the song by explaining that "anyone can make up lyrics to any perfectly innocent song."

And yet, they all are. People think Born is a patriotic song, Pina Colada is a love song, and Balloons is about....well, balloons.

And all of those are well-known misunderstandings, not just the folks on this thread.


Point being that if you listen to the lyrics, it's obvious what those songs is about. "Misunderstood lyrics" are not the same as "I only know the chorus and think the song is about something completely different". And yes, there are plenty of folks who fall into the latter category, no argument there.

That's how they portray it in the Beatles "Love" show in Las Vegas, which we thought was weird but evidently not.
