I know there are lots of fellow Isbell fans on here. New Album, "Reunions" coming out May 15th. He's dropped a few singles here and there. Here's the tracklist:

1. "What've I Done to Help" (released single)
2. "Dreamsicle" (released single)
3. "Only Children" (released today as a single)
4. "Overseas" (played live but otherwise unreleased)
5. "Running With Our Eyes Closed"
6. "River"
7. "Be Afraid" (released single)
8. "St. Peter's Autograph"
9. "It Gets Easier"
10. "Letting You Go"


"Only Children" is classic Isbell lyrics with a bit of the new sound. And "Overseas" is really great in the acoustic version I've listened to. But I think "What've I Done to Help" and "Be Afraid" both suck. I'm seeing him in August (hopefully) and I know it'll be a large dose of the new material. Based on track names alone, it sounds like it'll be some good stuff coming out in May.

High hopes for this one. Ive been a huge fan of his since the Truckers days and Southeastern is one of my favorite records of the last decade.

I will say however his last "sorry about being a white guy" record was not my favorite. Hoping he rebounds from that and gets back to what he does best

I've only listened to Be Afraid but like it. I preordered the vinyl the day it was announced and I like going in as cold as possible on a fresh listen.

I know there were those two polarizing songs on "Nashville Sound" but damn it has some good tracks. Cumberland Gap rocks. And Chaos and Clothes and Vampires are two of my favorite songs he's ever written.

Big Isbell fan but the first two released did nothing for me. I thought What Have I've Done to Help was garbage and may be my least favorite thing I've ever heard from him. I thought Only Children was better than the previous two and will check out Overseas.

I get he's political but his albums overall have still been good enough to me to cancel out any of the songs that made me roll my eyes. I think right now he's trying too hard. I don't know if its some sense of obligation or just a desire to be buds with a guys like David Crosby but its ok not to beat everyone down with it all the time.

I think it's still possible to write songs with powerful meaning without making you say "Ok we get it, give it a rest." I'm a huge American Aquarium fan and would say their last album definitely had some political tones but I thought it was great and those songs were actually some of the strongest of the album. Yesterday they released Me + Mine (Lamentations) I think it highlights what I am trying to say. Not trying to hijack this thread but thought "this is how you do it" while I was listening. Sorry for the tangent, too much time on my hands these days.

Politics aside. What I cannot stand is the repetitiveness and lack of lyrical content. What have I done to help is that phrase over and over and over and over and over it's crazy how many times he says "what have I done to help" we'll go quote you Mr Isbell. Can someone save me from that garbage of a song!

Got my indie store vinyl from Cactus on Saturday. Still processing the new stuff, but my first impression is that sonically, it sounds fantastic. They definitely spent more time on polishing the material and the playing is top notch.

Also, check out his interview with Brian Koppelman on Koppelman's podcast, The Moment. Really good stuff.

Wow. I'm a big fan of this album. It's masterfully produced.

The guitar in the intro of "Running With Our Eyes Closed" has such a cool Sting/The Police feel to it.

I really like the album version of "Overseas" but I think I favor the acoustic renditions I've heard.

"It Gets Easier" and "Letting You Go" are great vintage, Isbell-esque tunes.

"St Peter's Autograph" is beautiful and might be my favorite track (That or "Only Children")

I still don't care for "What've I Done to Help" and "Be Afraid", but this album is pretty solid. I hope everyone can give it a listen soon.

I agree, I listened to it and felt a very different, almost 80s vibe to it. Good stuff.

Personally I'm still obsessed with Dreamsicle, but I know that will shift as I get the chance to hear the rest of the tracks more. Big fan of everything except the first track.

Oh and the piano and fiddle sounds in River is pretty sweet.

The more I listen to Running with Our Eyes Closed the more I hear a Dire Straits sound. It's so damn catchy.

Dreamsicle is such a good track. Incredible story telling.

Overseas and Running have a very Frey / Henley 80s rock sound. That's not Jason on lead is it?

What've I done is the only song I'll be skipping. Just too repetitive. Can't imagine he's going to be singing that 5 nights a week for the next 5 years.

The first two singles were the two worst songs on the album, in my opinion. What Have I Done to Help might be the worst song he's put out in a decade. That said, the remainder of the album is quite good. I know it'll continue to grow on me as well. The final 3 song finish is really really strong stuff.
