Well, once more tours and festivals implement this (target date Oct 4) they are not all going to pay that expense for fans when there's a free vaccine they could have taken.

Vaccinated or not, they still have to pay someone at each gate to check cards/test results/administer the rapid on site tests. Some venues will pay for it, some won't.

Isbell isn't big enough to make demands like this and shouldn't be surprised when a venue like this tells him to take a hike.

heard on another board from someone who's wife works for Cynthia Woods. They had three days notice, they barely have enough workers to pull off the show much less new entrance requirements, and a not for profit venue like Cynthia Woods cannot just hire a bunch of people for a show that is not selling tickets.

This. I live on the south side of Houston and the last two times I saw Isbell was at Revention in Downtom and then at Smart Financial in Sugarland. Driving an hour to and from in August heat to see him at a bigger venue caused me to pass on it and Isbell is easily in my top 5 artists right now.

Woodlands saying they just didn't have time. Isbell calling BS.

Sally's father is the Prez/CEO of CWM, FWIW... ran The Summit/Compaq Center prior to that.

I like Isbell's music, but he's an insufferable schmuck.

Seems like a conflict of interest for her to report on.

I like the outspoken Isbell. And maybe's it's just because I agree with about 95% of what he says and stands for, but I find him to be a very intelligent, empathetic, and well thought out man. He's a great interview and is more than willing to engage with opposing views if they are well presented. However he also will not suffer fools. I find it very entertaining on Twitter as he drops the hammer on people just spouting stupidity.

I like that he's a man of action. For example he's been well spoken out about women in country. He's talked in interviews about how his eyes were opened marrying Amanda and watching her deal with her music versus how he dealt with his. For example the sheet she would get trying to get something from a venue versus how easy it was for him to deal with the same venue. He's someone who is willing to adjust his world view given new information and new experiences. To bring it full circle, for the run of Ryman shows this year he booked nothing but women openers, putting his money where his mouth is to try and use his power for change. I admire that.

I had tickets and am disappointed it's not going to happen, but getting a bit tired of Isbell and his self-righteous martyr schtick.

He threw some last minute BS on the venue for a show that wasn't selling well. They made a decision that it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Now he's taking issue with how they are framing the cancellation.

Boo hoo Jason.

Lol. Jason is doing just fine, man.

Exactly

He's well within his right to make the demand and they're well within theirs to cancel it. Deal with it Jason.

I'm a huge fan of Isbell's music and his ability but his SJW/political BS wears very thin on me.

Do you pay any attention to his lyrics.

I find this comical...reminds of the folks that hammer Roger Waters for getting so political later in life. Dude, did you actually listen to Pink Floyd.

Guy can cancel the show if he wants. Applaud him in truth for following through although I disagree with his opinion.

Had he folded in the first show after his SM tirade on Monday he would have looked like a clown.

Being that righteous all the time has to be exahasting for Jason though.

During the GF stuff last year he was talking about his white privilege in being raised in a musical family who put a guitar in his hands at an early age.

The Blues was invited by kids of share croppers on the delta . Has nothing to do with color only your lived experience .

I guess you can enjoy the music but lyrically he's as woke as they come.

Yes and I'm not disagreeing but most of earlier stuff including his time with DBT isn't that woke. His wokeness reaches peak level post Southeastern.

Isbell's library of non woke music is still greater than most artists today.

There's plenty enough there to enjoy.

Completely agree with this.

I used to look forward to him coming to town but now I couldn't care less. I'll go to church if I want to listen to a preacher.

I have tickets for his show in Ft. Worth. Bought them when it was at Panther Island. Now that it is at Billy Bob's, I am not sure what to do. I hadn't heard about any of this until looking at texags, which is convenient, as I don't do twitter or fb.

I wonder if they'll go through with the show? With all the furor supposedly surrounding it, I am not sure what they end up doing. He'll probably play. I hope this doesn't end up like the time I saw Peter, Paul and Mary two days after we starting bombing Iraq. Needless to say, there was a certain atmosphere that brought the whole thing down. Hope that is not the case tomorrow night.

Interesting that he's taking such a hard line now.

We went and saw him in Montana at the Under the Big Sky Music Fest where there were 40,000 and his stage was packed in tight and there were no such restrictions.

Saw Jason at ACL live in Austin last week, and for what it's worth. The people at the door checking vax cards didn't so much as glance as my phone when I showed them the picture. They were just waving everyone through if you even made half an effort. And once we got inside, not a single person was enforcing the masks rule, so nobody in our section wore one.

Feels like a lot of this is just for show / to make a statement, and good for the Moody for keeping the show online but not really caring about taking a hard stance.

Also, the show was tremendous. He is so freakin great live.

Looks like he's playing "******* Lonely Love" a decent amount on this tour. Perhaps my favorite song of his lately and I've never seen it live. Hopefully he comes through Houston again soon and plays it.

Billy Bob's was very much a token glance. Could have been a receipt and I doubt they would have noticed/cared. I'm wondering if Cynthia Williams being a Live Nation owned venue (I think?) couldn't offer the same kind of cursory vax check that 1-2 low level employees could handle and instead were required to do a legitimate one and that wasn't worth the cost.

Went last night at ACL. Really good show and glad we went. Played a lot from from Southeastern which was nice. Him and his band put on a good show wear everyone can flex their musical muscles. Amanda was not there. Which was fine for me. I'm indifferent with her.

He did request that everyone show proof of vaccination or negative COVID test before entering. I showed a pic of my card but they did not cross reference with my ID. I would say 10% of the audience were wearing masks. I say all that to say, this is most likely the norm in cities like Austin. And if you're on either side of the covid argument. This is most likely what it would be for most shows
Anyone else see him last night? Thoughts on the show?

Just saw this. We went to the Saturday show, too. Great show and it was my first time at the Moody Theater. Acoustics are amazing.

The whole "proof of vaccine" was a pathetic virtue signaling joke. Basically a pinky swear at the gate that you are vaccinated and no real validation. Then once inside (general admission on the floor) it's elbows to a-holes and hardly anyone in masks.

I genuinely love his music and listen often, but if there's a liberal line in the sand he can draw, he will. It shouldn't be a shock.
