The first two singles were the two worst songs on the album, in my opinion

After about 3-4 spins, this album is awesome and classic Isbell like we've all loved in the past. One thing that is blowing me away is how tight, crisp and clean the production is. Running with eyes closed, overseas, the river, all very uniquely sounded and different from the traditional acoustic forward songs. Over produced but not in a bad way.

Right now Dreamsicle is number 1 followed by gets easier, Running, the river and letting you go!

Hard to rate all of his albums right now but I'm liking this one more than I did Nashville's Sound with this many listens.

After a full week...I like it as much as their last. In fact you can listen to both straight through and it sounds like one long album.

It's no Southeastern, but he'll never make another record like that being sober.

Still waiting for my vinyl! It was scheduled to be here the 20th. Tracking had no updates since the 18th and then yesterday I get an update that it's in Detroit... it started out in North Carolina!!! You're going the wrong way!!!

Frustrating. I know I could listen to digital but I've held out this long. I want my first spin to be with a nice glass of bourbon and my sweet colored vinyl.

Hurry up USPS!!!!

River and St Peters autograph are my two favorites.

What have I done to help is garbage.

The exact opposite is true, isn't it? He put out 3 records on the bottle and none set the world on fire, then he got sober in 2012, released Southeastern in 2013 and most everyone credits that new found sobriety with the leap in quality/recognition.

Finally got my vinyl in the mail and just finished first listen. Very good. The packaging and red/black marble vinyl is beautiful.

Having a daughter "Letting You Go" tugs at the strings. I had only listened to "Be Afraid" before the first spin so it will take a couple times to process.

"What I Did To Help" isn't as bad as you all make it out to be. Listening to it it wasn't as repetitive as reading the lyrics made it seem and musically it's a groove. It just need to have about a minute cut out at the end of it is my initial impression.

Sirens of the Ditch is a great album.

I think it's better than Nashville Sound

Honestly I think teaming up with Dave Cobb has as much to do with his more recent success as does his sobriety. He put out some damn good music pre-sobriety both with DBT and solo.

Oh I agree his early stuff is great. The 400 Unit debut is arguably my favorite album of his (the original, not the awful remaster from last year). I was just saying he didn't really receive much attention nor acclaim for those albums.

Yeah I get what you're saying.

I just don't think that acclaim was a result of his sobriety. Yeah that had something to do with it but Cobb had a lot to do with it too. Kinda of a perfect storm situation where he cleaned up and wrote some great music while at the same time teamed up with Cobb. Southeastern is just one a different level.

Honestly, while his newer stuff is great I sometime wish he'd go back to some of his older guitar driven sound. I think he's a severely underrated guitar player. His songwriting overshadows his playing ability. Guy can play some guitar.

I believe it's about his wife's close friend who committed suicide.

Went last night at ACL. Really good show and glad we went. Played a lot from from Southeastern which was nice. Him and his band put on a good show wear everyone can flex their musical muscles. Amanda was not there. Which was fine for me. I'm indifferent with her.

He did request that everyone show proof of vaccination or negative COVID test before entering. I showed a pic of my card but they did not cross reference with my ID. I would say 10% of the audience were wearing masks. I say all that to say, this is most likely the norm in cities like Austin. And if you're on either side of the covid argument. This is most likely what it would be for most shows
Anyone else see him last night? Thoughts on the show?

I have tickets for the show on Wednesday.

No restrictions issued from the venue currently about vaccines or negative tests. Isbell is all over social media today saying they won't play without vax cards or negative tests, indoors or out.

It's about Neal Casal's suicide in 2019 and how hard Jason's wife took it.

Sorry tommyjohn, missed your post.

Isbell announces today that they're requiring proof of vaccination or negative test for all of their shows, played inside or outside. If the venue won't comply, they won't play.

I have tickets to see him on Friday in Fort Worth, will be interesting to see what happens.

Funny how ACL Live was able to accommodate Jason's requests in less than 3 days yet the CWM Pavillion couldn't

Yeah, heard they were nice enough to provide rapid tests right outside the gate... for $150/pop.

The show had barely sold 20%.

Assuming it wasn't worth it for Woodlands to handle logistics of testing to make minimal (if any) profit.

Fort Worth show has now moved from Dallas (Bomb Factory inside) to Fort Worth (Panther Pavilion outside) to Billy Bob's (inside).
tommyjohn
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I was surprised how many tickets were available. I estimated about 30% sold just for the seated pavilion.

So 3k tickets give or take

I had tickets and am disappointed it's not going to happen, but getting a bit tired of Isbell and his self-righteous martyr schtick.

He threw some last minute BS on the venue for a show that wasn't selling well. They made a decision that it wouldn't be worth the hassle. Now he's taking issue with how they are framing the cancellation.

Boo hoo Jason.
Ag_07
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Exactly

He's well within his right to make the demand and they're well within theirs to cancel it. Deal with it Jason.

I'm a huge fan of Isbell's music and his ability but his SJW/political BS wears very thin on me.

A Wednesday night show outside in Texas in August in a suburb an hour away from the city? I can see how that would be a tough sell, and I say that as someone who has traveled multiple times to see an Isbell show.

There has also been no advertising for it. If it wasn't for this thread, wouldn't have even known he was playing.

On one hand, he is sticking to his guns, but on the other, he is taking money out of the hands of his band and everyone else involved in the show over something silly.

All this is true but in a metro area with 7 million people you would think he could sell more than a few thousand tickets.

Well, once more tours and festivals implement this (target date Oct 4) they are not all going to pay that expense for fans when there's a free vaccine they could have taken.

Woodlands is far too big a venue for Isbell as well.
