Master and Commander benefits from the book series existing, it would be easy..outside of how expensive and difficult filming on actual ships is reported to be.

(Mike Myers is rumored to be developing)

(a sequel/prequel/spin-off - we don't know which yet, called Furiosa, is in active development from George Miller)

National Treasure 3
(I know for a fact this is eventually happening)

(writer Brian Koppelman often talks about the potential for a sequel, and the cast is game, but there are rights issues to work out first)

TRON 3
(if not Disney, Disney+ will resurrect in some form or fashion)

Probably gota be one of the biggest mysteries as to how this never got a sequel. It made so much money, it was so well made, the dialogue was money, and the characters could definitely have more story told.

I always thought a sequel to Close Encounters could be good, not necessarily with the same actors except as cameos, but the premise with a government coverup would be interesting today.

This would actually be pretty cool.

I also wouldn't mind a version where Roy returns home, and has to reckon with the decision of having left his family behind for 40+ years. It'd be even cooler if Roy had hardly aged, but present-day Dreyfuss could be good too.

The family drama against all the alien/government stuff could be really great.

Now I'm wondering how the heck this movie hasn't already been made...
