I've almost got the GOT entries done, but think I'll go with LOTR next, that's such a fun franchise - and it's better than writing a book about building wealth, which isn't even due until Sunday, which is forever away.

What's the point of including a bunch of stuff that didn't merit the theatrical releases and that a ton of people here won't have seen? If I include them in the groups, they won't get enough votes to advance to the elimination round and will take up spots that could go to moments that a lot more people know and like.

I'm just being facetious. But any self-respecting LOTR fan has seen the Extendeds.

well without sounding like more of an snob a-hole than normal, many literary scholars call the Scouring of the Shire the most important chapter of all 3 books because if of its satire and critical eye towards England and its politics post WWII when the British government was content to let the US take over how Western Europe did things, while its people were facing food shortages and so on.

True, but I thought we were talking specifically about his death, not the Scouring of the Shire.

Fwiw, I agree with leaving it out of the movies as we'd already wrapped everything up, and God knows people didn't need another 45 minutes in that movie. Some things are better left in the books. (Looking at you, Bombadil.)

But the death of the major villain of FOTR and TTT definitely felt like it needed to be shown in the theatrical version rather than never mentioning him again and the audience just assuming he's no longer a threat.

For my part, I'd rather do LOTR book moments than movie moments. I don't need the manufactured bullsh-t like Aragorn falling off a cliff or Faramir claiming the ring.

Cliff-agorn and his magical hhorseare not making my bracket. Probably not much from Faramir either. They made a cool character into a total d-bag.

Fine theater recollection from ROTK - cut to the scene of Denethor covering himself and Faramir in oil to burn together and my brother says out loud, "Say hello to the new steward of Crazyville."

Main theme would be cool... but what would be chosen from LOTR? The Fellowship's theme? Gondor's? Concerning Hobbits? Rohan's theme?

And to join in on the geek-fest...

The intro to the Ride of the Rohirrim is not near as gratifying as the books... and it was still cool. I don't understand why we couldn't have had the same scene with Gandalf meeting the witch king at the gates.

Brackets for Fellowship, Two Towers, and Return down to top however many picks from each. Then cap it off with the head to head to head with A BRACKET OF ULTIMATE DESTINY!!!
