I don't mean to make this about the movies or the MCU or anything, but it's such a shock, and was kept so secret, that I wonder if Marvel knew? I wonder if Ryan Coogler knew? Surely, right?

I don't know how you hide that from coworkers every day. When you are having surgeries and things. Surely they knew.

I always wondered why they kept pushing Black Panther II farther in the future since it was such a huge smash, but I do now. Man, this one is rough.

But did they know when they initially cast him...?

Yeah, I have to say, given what a massive, massive success the first one was, I was always curious why they didn't try to get another one out ASAP.

I know it's kind of crappy to discuss, but it's a big business and the investment Marvel puts into their big characters is huge. You would think they would do a deep dive into health and insurance for these circumstances.

Said he was diagnosed in 2016. He was cast as Black Panther in either '14 or '15, as his first appearance was in Civil War in '16.

His final scene as T'Challa was leading his armies against Thanos. Not a bad way to go from a cinematic perspective.

In fact, at the time I complained at how they gave T'Challa such a heroic moment and so much focus in that scene, rather than focusing on Cap seeing Falcon return.

And now, I'm thinking they knew this would be his final scene as Black Panther, and they wanted to give him his hero moment. And now it makes perfect sense.

Or maybe it's just a coincidence.

Yeah, it's such a crazy situation, I don't know what to think.

I'm starting to think that too. I remember that being one of my only gripes about that scene as Bucky and Sam should've been the first out as it would've had more of an emotional tie for Cap... I figured they did BP because his movie was so massive and so big with the AA community.

But now I'm thinking this was indeed the reason. Either way, now I'm glad that was the case and that he'll always be the first one to appear in that scene

Saw this from someone on Facebook this evening and though "bull****, more fake Facebook crap." It wasn't until a few minutes later that my Apple News notification popped up on my phone. What a sad deal. Wonder if his family has a history of it.

My kids effing love that dude. Kick in the junk. My wife and I are arguing over who is going to tell them.

Never saw a thing I didn't like him in. The fact that he did 4 Avengers movies, jacked as all get out while battling cancer is amazing.

Wakanda forever.

From everything I'm reading, he was cast as BP for Civil War in '14, finally getting his dream shot, but was then diagnosed in 2016, the same year Civil War released, and BP started filming January '17.

Colon cancer at 43. If you're 45 go get scoped. You could have zero symptoms and still be stage 3. An awful disease. Pain, chemotherapy, nausea, surgery, bags.

They shouldn't recast him in this universe

100% agree. Black Panther wasn't one of my favorites, but he owned that role and it would be a shame to recast!

Let the other actresses take over if needed, but let that character be his legacy. Damn hard to hear, but much respect for his fight.

Goodness gracious. This is shocking. Was not a huge fan of that movie but this guy seemed like a great man in real life.

Wow. Big loss and absolute warrior to be working as much as he did while battling this.

I was floored when I got the alert. Just terrible. Great actor and sounds like just an awesome guy. I'm sure a lot more good stories will come out. This sucks.
