Guy has major TDS but admittedly I am intrigued by this.

Surlrised that sudekis isn't resuming the role.

It will probably be a re-hash of his Jimmy Stewart impression.

Though the Sedakis "Ted Lasso" Biden needed to be replaced. He looked too young anyway.

I doubt they really go after Biden much though. It'll be kid gloves but with a new face.

Wish they'd bring back Darrell Hammond to do Trump, because his version was actually funny.

A Zoom conversation between Darrell Hammond's Clinton, Gore, Trump, and Sean Connery characters would be amazing.

Damn, love me some Sudekis, but I'm at least interested to see what Carrey brings. I can't believe we're 5 posts in without the SNL is still on post.

I thought Woody Harrelson did a great Biden. Jim Carrey is an interesting pick. No telling how that will go. Hopefully they get someone else to do Trump, Baldwin just doesn't do a good job and isn't funny at all. Even Jimmy Fallon does a better job.

Forgot about Woody. He was pretty good.

I love Baldwin, but his Trump is too angry, mean-spirited, you can tell he hates Trump. That's why it's not funny.

You know who was great? Phil Hartman doing Reagan.

How pissed would you be if you are an SNL cast member? Playing a politician has always been a good opportunity for a cast member to get screen time.

Hartman was great at everything.

Regarding Baldwin's Trump, I thought it was good when he first started doing it during the 2016 campaign. I don't know if it just wore it it's welcome, or if it sightly changed after Trump won, but it's not really good anymore. I agree with those who say the hatred comes through and distracts from the comedy.

Carrey as Biden could be interesting. Will depend how much they let Carrey lean into Biden's inapproriate tendencies and "senior moments."

From an entirely apolitical standpoint I agree that Baldwin's Trump is terrible. Disdain simply can't be comedic on its own. It can be an element of comedy, but it has to be balanced out by redeeming qualities. Baldwin just can't do that, he can't bring himself to humanize the character he's playing and the comedic value suffers as a result.

Baldwin would do well to work with someone like Will Ferrell to practice for this season. I'm sure Ferrell had very little fondness for W, but he still managed to play a funny caricature by keeping the character human.

Most often you'll see Trump lovers use it as Trump Derangement Syndrome for former Trump supporters that now hate him. I like to think it simultaneously means Trump Delusion Syndrome for Trump supporters who can't find fault with him no matter what stupid or vile things he says or does.

Not even going to bother, it will be terrible. Comedy on NBC...yeah right.

I had the same question. But based on how this thread was going, I just assumed it meant "Thread Derailment Strategy"

Reagan is "generally considered by historians" to be a top 5 president?
That seems extremely vague and unprovable, but perhaps I misunderstood the post.

Baldwin's Trump is awful. Stealing this idea from a friend but for Trump they should just throw a wig on top of a broomstick in the Oval Office and shake it back and forth and do some version of "rabblerabblerabblerabble."

He is such a cartoon he's impossible to parody with any interesting or clever spin.

'92 season was the best with Phil Hartman as Clinton and Dana Carvey as Bush and Perot.

SNL alum Rob Schneider talked about that a while back. He said the impressions these days are too personal and one-sided.

Dana Carvey's impression of Bush 41 was great because he kept it silly and empathetic. He wasn't trying to take sides.

That just doesn't exist anymore. It's unfortunate, because comedy should make us laugh and take a step back from life.

I really loved the bush-gore debates with Ferrell and Hammonds. My first experiences with snl were during the 88 election with lovitz as dukakis, al franken as Paul Simon, and Dennis Miller as Gary hart.

I've said it before, but I don't usually think Trump parodies are that funny. And I'm not a fan of his. He's just already a cartoon of a person, so when you lampoon his already ridiculous personality, then it just becomes really reductive.

I don't know. Maybe if I saw someone like Frank Caliendo doing it I would change my mind.

WOW! I just wanted to post that I'm surprised that many people still watch SNL; I don't care who's on. The show overall hasn't been quality in years (my opinion of course). Sure it has it's moments, but I'll catch those on Youtube.

SNL is a very left leaning show (just look at who they won't make fun of), so this should not surprise anyone. Biden has been in public office for almost 50 years, I'm sure there are moments SNL could parody, but won't.

This threat took a hard turn - left and right - move these arguments to F16 if you're that passionate.

I agree that you can't really parody Trump. I do think an effective take down would be to quote him verbatim in extreme situations and with embellishment on his face/body language. The whole time you'd have words on the screen with "Trump literally said this." I really like what comedian Sarah Cooper does with her Trump impression.

This is, I would wager, the most "liberal" board on TexAgs (rivaled only by those Euro hippies on the Soccer board).

Most here don't delve much into Politics at all until someone who's almost without fail not a regular poster interjects something, usually with no intent for discussion and often never even returning to the topic. The regulars here are usually able to mention and even discuss the political and social implications of entertainment without resorting to insults or arguments. Some regulars are even F16 posters who are somehow able to coexist peacefully in this liberal bastion of TexAgs.

If your intent in posting here is to bash Hollywood or liberals or even conservatives for that matter, you're in the wrong place. So to quote Hugh Grant in Notting Hill, please, sod off.

I was bummed he didn't show up in the movie, although Richard Grieco was the best cameo ever.

Steve Butabi: "So is Johnny Depp going to come hang out with you later?"
Grieco (extremely long angry pause): "No."
