I watched this documentary over the weekend and thought it was very good. They use all real footage to tell the story (including police body cam). I followed the story a little bit when it happened but it turned out to be worse than I thought. It's about the family below and this is the picture I remember hitting the news cycle at the time.

That was depressing. I'll never understand why people don't just get divorced and move on with their lives. What, was he trying to save $1500/mo child support?

Said it before and I'll say it again: I'm glad my ex-wife just left.

Yeah, I still don't really understand the logic. I'd always pictured it as being some sort of rage-event, but it was fully premeditated. Just sick.

This was very well done in how they used 100% body cams, interview room video, and texts, and absolutely zero interviews. Also, it was refreshing to see an entire story effectively told in less than 90 minutes vs dragging it out into an 8 episode documentary

I remember seeing a dateline or something on this. Will watch the doc.

And this crime was flat-out sick and nuts. How he ever thought he would get away with it was insane. Especially the use of his job site. Something was sure to eventually be found there and he's toast as soon as that happens. Then LOL at how the cop basically feeds him a cover story and then that's what he almost immediately latches onto as his explanation. I'd be curious what this guy's IQ is.

He has to have a really low IQ, like you said what was he thinking putting them at his job site, then when he's cheating he's taking pictures with the other girl and using their joint checking account. I've never had an affair but that just seems like common sense on stuff you don't do.

possibly a spoiler but I about lost it, crying wise, when he started saying his girls were alive in the backseat when he was taking them to the job site with mom right under his feet. A 45min to hr drive, all that time to literally spare your little innocent girls lives. Wtf is wrong with that dude. And then he put them in the tank alive? I had to stop watching it and just fast forward to the end to get it off my line up. Probably one of the most upsetting things I've seen and wish I didn't watch the end.

that guy deserves to burn.... slowly.

didn't they say he called the school to unenroll the kids the morning it happened? How does that go with his cover story that his wife took the kids. He's an evil idiot.

Yeah, that is just pure evil psychopathic behavior. Only your life matters. Nothing else, not even your kids. No conscience at all. I thought he strangled them before putting them in the tank, not that it makes it less horrific

And yes, he unenrolled his kids that AM. There were so many dumbass actions on his part where it all would have unraveled quickly.

Really cool how the documentary was put together. I remember it being in the news too and seeing the dad doing interviews begging for them to come home. Knew then it was likely him who did it.

The eeriest part to me(having followed the story) was right at the beginning when he parks the truck and walks up to let the cop in. Knowing he had committed the murder just a few hours earlier and was walking up as if nothing had happened was evil.

Agree with what you all were saying about how well done this was and I also couldn't believe how dumb this guy was. I thought it was interesting when the neighbor pulled the cop aside on day 1 about how strange he was acting -- pretty good instincts.

He smothered the kids before putting them in the tank...not that that's any better, just correcting the facts.

I read a bit more about the story after watching the doc. They mention in the doc that Bella, the older girl, said "Daddy, no!" right before he killed her...one story I read said that he killed CeCe (the youngest) while she was in the car next to Bella, then Bella watched him dump her body in the tank. When he came back to the truck, she asked him "Is what happened to CeCe gonna happen to me too?".

I hope gets dealt prison justice. Life in prison is too good for him.

I had watched all the police cam footage on youtube back when it took place and was sickened by the story.

But I checked this out anyway in case there was any more details provided.

The fact that his daughters were alive in the truck when he drove them to where he planned to dump the bodies is absolutely sickening. It's one thing to be a crime of passion, but the fact that he had an hour+ to reconsider and still going through with it was just disgusting.

And he looked like he had zero remorse during the sentencing.

Also, legal question. Should an attorney not have been present throughout all the questioning?

Not saying I wanted him to get away with it of course, just legitimately curious if anything was done wrong by the police or if this guy is just incredibly stupid.

If he requests one.

As mentioned earlier, he ain't the most chip filled cookie on the sheet.

It's always incredible to me watching shows like this how many idiots talk to the cops without a lawyer and agree to a polygraph. Even if you're innocent as all get out NEVER do either of those things.

This show was very well done, but as the father of a six year old girl it really messed me up. I just can not possibly imagine how someone could do that to their child. I watched it right before bed last night and then had a terrible dream where my wife, daughter and step daughter were all killed by a serial killer and my mother had been killed by a different serial killer the year before. Man it was amazing to wake up and realize it wasn't real.

Marriage sounds really hard...this isn't sarcasm, or a joke...as a single person like to be single always, it seems like such a complicated endeavor.

Too old here for it to matter, but best wishes to you young couples out there!

Find the right partner and it isn't. Not to excuse this guy at all, but this gal did seem self-admittedly very controlling with a lot of expectations on how everything should be done. And many of her texts involve her confiding in friends about their problems - including intimate stuff, which IMO is just not healthy. Some folks need to vent, but when you are venting on marriage details and ****-talking your spouse to others behind their back, I think you are on fast-track to that marriage ending. Again, absolutely zero excuse to do what he did. Abhorrent and psychotic. Get a damned divorce, don't become a psychopathic killer.

Watched tonight. It was mostly what I knew from other stories but I was impressed with the way they presented this.

Really well done and also so sickening. Can't imagine a situation getting so bad that one would do that to their wife or small children. Infuriating.

Not that you need more depressing info on this case, but there's a YouTube page called "JCS-Criminal Psychology" that breaks down the facts and the interrogation. It shows more detail about the lie detector test and his questioning.

Absolutely. This guy was an idiot, but obviously I'm glad since it led to him getting caught rather easily. Although there was no way he'd ever get away with this.

Even if you are 100% innocent, you should always have a lawyer. Talking to cops alone is just asking to screw yourself.

Really well done, but damn was this upsetting.

The doc was really well done, I couldn't believe how much of her/their life the wife put on Facebook for the world to see. And just once, can one of these end up with the husband not killing the wife and kids.

Seems like most people who are trying to work Thrive do the same thing. I wonder if they are told to do so, or if she just really liked posting her life online.

It is. It is work. Every married guy dreams of bailing at some point. You either do that or you shake that off and get back to work. You don't kill your wife and baby girls. Sickening.

Or your ***** of an (ex) wife tells you she doesn't wanna be married anymore, takes your kids for most of the month and gets 20% of your paycheck.

Don't get married.
