Sweet. He did a bluegrass show with a bunch of his staples at the Opry a few months ago, mentioned he was working on this. Excited to hear how it turned out

I've become a huge Sturgill fan over the last 3 years, but I hate bluegrass. I'll be curious to see how this works out.

I'm not a electro-dance-pop fan either, but "Mercury in Retrograde" is worth sitting through 9 crappy songs for.

First off, 9 crappy songs? How dare you! Sound & Fury masterpiece level to me. Album of the year last year.

Secondly, this should give you a good idea of what the album will be like. I'm not a bluegrass fan either but really enjoyed this show he did.

I'll give it another try. I didn't mean to insult you, personally. I was really trying to express how much I like the song Mercury in Retrograde. It really stood out on that album to me.

You didn't insult me at all. I was just joking around. I can definitely see how the album wouldn't be for everyone or would take time to grow on some.

That was my least favorite song on the album, but different strokes i suppose

I watched the live stream of that Bluegrass concert when it streamed in June. I think I saved the link or a copy to come back and watch later, but I never did.

I also watched most of the Netflix movie that went with Sound & Fury last year. That was some effed up stuff. It sounds like I'm ragging on Sturgill, but I am a huge fan of his. There have been multiple periods over the last 3 or 4 years where I'd only listen to his music. I found some live versions of his hits, I had tickets for the Houston show, I was a little concerned when he caught the Corona. Now that I'm thinking about it, I'm going to kick up a Sturgill playlist for the Halloween season.

It's up on the steaming sites and available for preorder. I grabbed the indie record store exclusive green and yellow vinyl. Looks like it ships first week of December.

I'm a couple songs in and liking it so far.

Gave it a couple of listens this morning. It's good, as one would expect. I don't know that I like these versions of the songs than any of the originals (maybe Voices or Water in a Well), but it's always nice to have more Sturgill.

Are all of these Sturgill songs or does he cover other artist? I recognize the majority are his but some I'm not sure

I like it. I've listened to bluegrass all my life and love it, the genre is alive and well. It's great to hear the guys like Sturgill and Tyler Childers try their hand at it.

A few ("I Don't Mind" is one song) are from a band I'd never heard of called Sunday Valley. Sturgill was their front man and he's got the songwriting credit on every song from the album.

I'm a huge bluegrass fan.

This album is FANTASTIC.

Sunday Valley is awesome and you should get in the weeds on YouTube to find more of them. Sometimes wine was another he did with Sunday valley. Oh Sarah as well before A Sailors guide to the galaxy. My personal favorite is below

Love that song. It's like disco, rock, and country all mashed together and it's done so well imo.

Do I hate this or love it?!

I saw a post on IG from him that it was the most played album on Spotify over the weekend.

Was also the #1 album on iTunes for a while, now #2. There is hope for humanity yet!

I absolutely love it.

Good mood music.

I love this album. I think I like most of the songs more than the originals.

Sound & Fury still isn't my cup of tea at all.

Sound and Fury is awesome.
My judge of a good to great country artist is if they can cross the music genre lines. Willie, Cash, Ray Charles, etc. all do that and have done it multiple times. It proves that they are music artist and love music no matter the genre. It gets them to broaden their audience and bring more people to country music in a way that wouldn't be possible.

To quote Jay Z " if you like my old stuff, then buy my old albums" some of you won't change and that's ok, but hating something because it's different I just don't get.

I can't ever understand what Sturgill is saying when he sings, so I am not a big fan.

I love bluegrass though.

Agree with this. I think it is best taken as a whole rather than in parts

Sound & Fury has become one of my all time favorite albums. Love that sound.
