They aren't BAD. I teared up the first time I saw goose die. Usually a character dies and I meh about it. So I'd rank the non-flight scenes as "decent". And the flight scenes are awesome. In my book, decent + awesome = pretty damn good movie.

I'm not sure I want to live in a world where people don't like Cocktail. Have never heard someone not like it before.

Collateral and Edge of Tomorrow are both very underrated.

Sure the guy is a weirdo but he makes great movies.
Top Gun
Days of Thunder
Rain Man
Color of Money
Cocktail

Think I've seen them all except for cocktail, collateral, that flick with Cameron Diaz, Willow,Taps
He's in Willow? I thought that was Val Kilmer and Cruise was in the similar Legend. Haven't seen either since I was a kid though, so I could be wrong.
Yeah, it's Val Kilmer who was in Willow; Cruise was in Legend, released in '85 and made by Ridley Scott (and that's all I remember about it).

Legend is the best Tom Cruise movie. Literally all downhill from there.

You can tell no one has seen this film because it either rates as best or worst film of his career. There is no middle ground.

Edge of Tomorrow question:

How did Emily Blunt know she was "out" when he had a blood transfusion? Wouldn't she just think she was in, die, and then that be it for her?

I believe she could "feel it" that she lost it.

Also who cares ...I could watch her do upward dog all day long.

Love Legend, but wouldn't put it at the top. Just going through the list, though, he's been in so many fantastic movies that you get a dozen different answers to the best ones and it's really hard to argue with any of them. Just an impressive career

I think if I had to rate them:

Best: Minority Report
Worst: The Mummy
Underrated: Collateral and The Outsiders

Most iconic: Top Gun
(where it really started for him...this movie is Tom Cruise)

Best: The Last Samurai
(unique story, not a typical 'Tom Cruise' role...to me it really shows his acting chops)

Underrated: Days of Thunder
(He and Robert Duvall have a fun chemistry in this one)

Worst: Lions for Lambs

You mean Dances with Samurai?

I guess it was more original than Days of Top Gun

To me there is a difference between the best movies with Tom Cruise in it, and the best performance by Tom Cruise in a movie.

I think the best movies with Tom Cruise in it are:
Jerry Maguire
A Few Good Men
Edge of Tomorrow

While the best Tom Cruise performances are:
Jerry Maguire (I think he should have an Academy Award for this one)
Collateral
Tropic Thunder

(I haven't seen Magnolia or a bunch of others people are mentioning here)

Let's be honest, though - Tim Curry was the best part of that movie.

Weird to think that Minority Report is around the middle of his career time-wise. It felt like he had been around forever even then.

There is empirical evidence that shows if everyone had simultaneously watched Top Gun back in March, it would have vaporized the coronavirus with the sheer power of awesomeness.

When planes aren't in the air, that is one of the most cringy movies ever made. I'm almost embarrassed to watch some of the scenes in that movie.
Nevertheless, when the planes are in the air...thermonuclear awesomeness.

Speaking of Edge of Tomorrow, I wonder if they can work the sequel to basically have the first film have not happened.

Control of time is the super weapon of the aliens, and killing an alpha resets the day 24 hours (ish, exact time never revealed). No one else is aware the day has been reset except the alpha (Cruise) and we assume and are told the omega.

So what if when Cruise kills the omega, it doesn't end the war but rather resets the day, but for a longer period, like 1 year. The aliens figure they can adapt to the battlefield within one day when the alphas are challenged, but maybe having the omega threatened demands a bigger reset.

If they go this direction, now the happy ending we see at the end of the movie is just an illusion. The war hasn't even started yet, but Cruise still has the memory of all that happened. So the aliens re-attack with a new plan and Cruise and Blount have to find a way to regain the power/find someone else who has killed an alpha and merged with them.

And yes, Edge of Tomorrow is his best film.

I've seen people say that but I disliked it quite a bit the only time I saw it. To be fair I might need to see it again but I definitely left the theater underwhelmed.

Best: So many to pick, but Mission Impossible: Fallout is just one of the best action films of the last 20 years and so rewatchable
Worst: I genuinely don't know how they got paid to release The Mummy
Underrated: Edge of Tomorrow in a landslide
