Haven't heard of most of these but participated just to vote against Thin Red Line.

And how do you not have Commando w/ the Commando category???
The Schwarzenegger movie? Well if you can make a case for it a World War Two movie I'll consider it for the NIT Bracket..

He may be talking about Commandos, but the number of people that post on this board that have seen that movie could probably be counted on one hand.

Raiders and Last Crusade head to head in the first round - that one was tough.

Band of Brothers has to be the odds-on favorite to win the whole thing, doesn't it?
Started B of B last night because of this thread, saw 2 episodes! Never seen it.

My guess is Band of Brothers or Saving Private Ryan. Band of Brothers will probably get more votes over those that have seen both, but my guess is that a lot more people have seen Saving Private Ryan than Band of Brothers.

Conspiracy, if youve seen it, easily makes Top 8 WWII films made.

People getting a look at the coordination and debate of the Wannsee Conference is a window into the atrocity that people just.dont.understand. Political pragmatism and insulation from the reality of the evil provides fertile ground for the inhumanity of it all.

The fact that those transcripts survived is astonishing.

^ THANK YOU

Obviously I think so too. It is an amazing story - and all true.

I believe only one complete copy of notes survived belonging to Martin Luther the Undersecretary (to Ribbentrop) of the Foreign Ministry and their liaison to the SS. They attempted to destroy all notes at the end of the conference. How his survived I do not know but they were discovered in the German Foreign Office by the US Army.

Yeah more obscure 1967 movie Commandos starred the guy from the Maverick TV show and some other guy.

A movie we missed that should have been there:

Farewell to the King with Nick Nolte as a WWII soldier that AWOLs and eventually becomes the leader of a large tribe on Borneo. Two Australian commandos go into Borneo to recruit the tribes to fight the Japanese and eventually come across Nolte. Great movie.

You might want to double-check the Light Hearted Comedy category.
It says Father Goose beat Operation Petticoat, but Operation Petticoat was bolded & advanced ot the 2nd round.
Probably just a typo, but I figured you'd want to know.

Thanks it is a typo, Operation Petticoat was the clear winner which surprised me a little. While I enjoy Operation Petticoat, I have a fondness for Father Goose.

Good idea.

I will put together a "NIT" Bracket of 16 films later today mostly drawn from the omissions mentioned in this thread and from 2 Favorite WWII Movies Thread.. Conspiracy 1941 & Pearl Harbor are for sure to make the bracket. To make sure I consider your favorite that I missed the first go around , post it in this thread.

Round 2 voting will be open until at least this evening but I might extended to tomorrow morning but don't procrastinate if you want your voice to be heard.

One to consider for your NIT would be The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Movie opens with Heinkel bombers unloading on London, and this is the whole reason the kids relocate to the home in the country (historical fact as Londoners sent their kids away to keep them out of harm's way). Of course, other than the bombers, not much of a WWII movie.

From a list of 25 films or so that were either suggested in this thread and a few that I considered in the main tournament but did not make the cut. Put them into a randomizer, took the top 13 added them to Conspiracy, 1941 & Pearl Harbor., randomized again for seeding.

Awesome job man, I thought I had seen a ton of WWII movies but I was badly mistaken.

Thank you for your efforts.

I don't mean this to be negative or diminish any of your work, but there are a ton of movies that deal either with the resistance or Holocaust that were omitted.

Black Book
The Last Train (Der letzte Zug)
Lauf Junge lauf
Sarah's Key
Remember
Conspiracy

Unless I overlooked it, Escape from Sobibor hasn't been mentioned on this thread. It's a good Rutger Hauer Holocaust film.
