Raiders of the Lost Ark and A League of their Own, really? I know there is no crying in WWII movie polls, but come on guys.

So...the Lion, The Wiitch... is some sort of children's fantasy film.
It was up against a film that dealt with the horrors of combat in the Hurtgen Forest.
Good grief. We are comparing WW 2 films versus children's stuff.

Raiders over Captain America? Uhhhhh...yeah, every time
I guess I just never thought of Raiders or League as WWII movies.Bruce Almighty said:bluefire579 said:JB!98 said:

The problem will be if Raiders keeps winning. It's a top 2 or 3 TexAgs entertainment board favorite movie and people many times, automatically vote for what they like best, no matter the context. If Raiders beats Das Boot, fine. It shouldn't, but I'm guessing many people probably haven't seen it or think it's boring. It'll then be matched up against Saving Private Ryan. There is absolutely no reason why Raiders should beat SPR in a poll about World War 2 movies, but it wouldn't shock me. It's the equivalent of saying D'yer Mak'er is the greatest reggae song because Led Zeppelin is your favorite band.
Okay. I thought a war movie pretty much was about the "frontlines". You know, the war thing. Also, the " horrors of combat" seem to be very pertinent . You know, movies about the war and combat and all that stuff.Quote:
A war movie doesn't have to be about men fighting on the frontlines to be impactful, and a movie dealing with the horrors of combat doesn't make it good.

Child fantasy films are great. Just not relevant to this competition.
To me, a war movie is about men fighting on the frontlines. A movie about the horrors of combat is what it's all about, in my opinion.
I get your point. Apologies if I was out of line.Quote:
Are you really going to say The Diary of Anne Frank isn't a WW2 movie because there are no fighting forces?
You had me agreeing with the argument up until this point.Fat Bib Fortuna said:
Beyond its well known Christian allegory, I would say that the lion, the witch, and the wardrobe, which has a tyrannical head of state deeming other races inferior and committed to wiping out her scapegoat enemy - the humans - while imprisoning anyone who dares oppose her using her secret police force is more about world War 2 than half the films on the big list.
