Great season. I thought the possession and false world thing was a little tropey but it was definitely done "right."
I don't think she's supposed to be anything like the book or game, this show is a different world.Quote:
I think forcing Yennifer into every episode has been nearly a disaster. Her storylines are all over the place and so far she's nothing like the book or game version. There's also not much content to go by there so they have to make it up as they go and it's hit or miss.
The Witcher on Netflix go pretty hard!

This is the real missed build up, I think they did the reveal way too early. People like bits and pieces and putting it together(i.e. show, don't tell). Having the reveal this early in the story removes the mystery of why Nilfgaard is both so powerful and why they're so obsessive about finding Ciri. They could have gotten great mileage out of the mysteriousness of Emyhr being an off screen seemingly omnipotent and omniscient emperor that is intent on controlling or burning the world.chase128 said:
Ciri's father is Emyhr in the books. I don't recall how it's made known in the books, but it felt kinda necessary to do it where they did in the show. Helped make the Nilfgaard part of the story make more sense, raised the stakes a bit.
Edit: i looked up to refresh my memory and it's not revealed until the end of the books who Ciri's father is.
I don't like the books, I just don't like his style of prose.SpreadsheetAg said:

I don't game anymore, but I think there is a book series for this as well... where do I start? Are the books good to decent? Do the games feed off the book? Or were the books created from the game?
The Witcher 3 tells the story much better than the book IMO.SpreadsheetAg said:

Read the two story collections first, they take place before the main story (Sword of Destiny and Last Wish) and give background on a lot of the world and characters. From there, Blood of Elves is the first one and you can find the reading order. Like others have said, the prose is a bit weird, and one of the books barely has Geralt in it at all, but they're a worthwhile read. Worldbuilding is definitely his strength and it really comes out in the novels.SpreadsheetAg said:

I really liked the audio books. But yes I do recommend the book series, I've gotten bogged down in the first game, but the books are really good.
I do think the casting on the show has been very solid so far. Yen is supposed to be more of an ice queen, but the rest have been solid I hope the series gets to run the distance to the Lady of the Lake(the last book).

Wtf? I had half of S2 left to watch, but why even bother at this point if Cavill is going to leave the show? I wouldn't watch it past that point anyway.
What an absolutely boneheaded decision. I can't imagine it was related to Superman right? I'm thinking Netflix didn't want to pay up maybe.

I have no source or factual basis to say this, but I'm 95% sure.
This is Cavill leaving because he knows S3 is garbage, and he's bailing after fulfilling his contractual duties. He loves the source materials, and a lot of the Witcher/Netflix publicity that came out last week revealed that many/most of the writers for the show have disdain for or openly mocked the source material.
Mega-nerd & fanboy that he is, I bet he takes this extremely personally - and he's ditching the show with extreme prejudice.
Do you have a source on the writers thing? I don't not believe you, I'm just curious, hadn't heard that one. Such a weird thing to say out loudC@LAg said:i am guessing there is some, bc of said comments by writers, but I think this is more him maximizing his earnings potential. If he is tied to S04 Witcher, he cannot even be considered for both Bond AND Superman. The Dog Lord said:
He was such a fan though. I know it's his job and DC can offer more money, but I'd hope there is more going on that caused him to walk away, like creative differences.
but it is a shame. as you said, he is a fan as well as a big huge, muscular nerd. he was perfect for this role.
