Two episodes in, very meh. Special effects budget seems sci-fi channel level. Couldn't tell you a single character's name. Only 4 episodes total though, so I will probably finish it. I do like the premise, just think that it's trying too hard without the money backing it up to achieve what they are looking for.

Also, it seems like they haven't given up on finding another song that breaks out like Toss a Coin. There is a new one every episode so far.

The violence was over the top when there were action sequences, which wasn't a negative for me. However there wasn't a lot of action in the first couple of episodes. It took 2-3 episodes just to build the team.

I ended up fast forwarding through the songs once it became apparent they were going to force it on you every episode.

I binged it last night. Thumbs down, and I'm predisposed to be kind to this sort of genre fare.

I liked it but it's very short. I watched 1 episode Sunday night and the rest Monday morning. Without spoiling it, I would've preferred more build-up to the "event".

Entertaining enough. Compact story told efficiently.

The Witcher prequel Blood Origin dropped on Netflix. I didn't see a thread on it so I thought I'd bump this one.

Just started it, so no pithy comments yet.
let's just say it got absolute basement dweller reviews from both critics and fans and leave it at that.

it is a Christmas miracle. everyone is united in their hate for it.
Finished it - god awful.

Stupid storyline overlaid with bad acting, unremarkable characters, and low-budget special effects.

Remarkably bad

It completely missed everything that made the game/1st season great. Completely absent of humor. The characters lacked the raw sex appeal of the original. And the story is aimless and uninteresting.

So, as a stand-alone it's a continuation of The Witcher Season 2 decline. As a part of The Witcher world, it's terrible.

On a scale of 1-10, I give it the finger

I've watched the first 3 episodes of Blood Origin. Will finish it today/tonight. Its been fine to me. Not great; not terrible. It has terrible reviews on IMDB. 4.6 I believe. Most are pissed that it has continued to deviate completely away from source material which I understand.

They did DEI the **** out of this. It's completely nonsensical and laughable that clan level tribes are totally melting pot from a race perspective. Regardless, I haven't had too many problems with it. It's fine for what it is if you can separate the intent of the source material from this. Again, I get the issues with that.

Is there an official season 3 thread? Waiting patiently for the new season to drop. Any idea what time tonight?

Do some of these writers absolutely loathe source material from popular Games/Books? It's like they just trashed all of the material and wrote whatever they wanted for Season 2 lol.

I did think Season 1 was entertaining, to include a positive note.

I am 3/4 through episode 1 of season 3 and have no idea what they are doing. The tone and pacing and character behavior is really off for me.

And yes I am trying not to be insane about the source material but I was so mad about season 2 so I can't figure what is going on. For a season opener it is like watching paint dry.

Edited to add that the ending picked up a bit for ep 1 with the battle scenes. I do like the actor playing Radovid.

I don't understand the evil sparkle/witch/queen that is in Ciri and what is going on with that.

I'm still confused and hazy about what happened in season 2 with these other worldly beings, even more so now that I don't remember anything.

Just finished part 1 of season 3. As much as I like this series in some ways, I feel like I'm finally coming around to what others have said about how it hasn't held up since season 1. There are just times where it feels very jumpy or disconnected.

It's still something I plan to watch as long as there isn't a noticeable decline with the recast.

In the writers defense I wasn't a fan of most of the books. They are trying to focus the show on Geralt, and he's barely in the last few books.

Yeah, I've never played the games, but the books were a bit of a mess at times. Without any spoilers, they appear to be adapting one of the better books quite well for Season 3.

I'm not a book reader or game player, but I started watching this show when it came out a couple of years ago.
I can say that I barely have a clue what is happening now in Season 3 (as of 3 episodes in), but watching Yennifer and Ciri are worth it. Spectacular.

The sets and lighting seem kind of cheap this season though.

There have been claims that some of the writers don't like the books.

The games really exist as a separate entity here, they kind of went off in a different direction from the end of the books, and the original author is a grumpy old man who doesn't think highly of games as a medium in general.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought this was essentially why Cavill is parting ways with the show, because he was being confrontational with them about not following the source material closely enough. He was arguing with them constantly about character motivations not making sense based on their book personalities.

What's the overall storyline for S3 so far? I couldn't really tell you what S2 was about. Training Ciri, sure, but then something about stones. Pretty uninteresting.

It feels like they should be approaching Book 4, which has a fantastic conclusion, but I wouldn't be surprised if they're too preoccupied with their original content to pursue something like that.

Seems to be based on the Time Of Contempt. At least they dropped that line pretty heavily in the first or second episode. I haven't read the books.

Some of the major topics so far are below (in no particular order). Some are the same as prior seasons really although there are new players (or old ones getting more screen time).

  • Developing Ciri's magical abilities as opposed to the Witcher abilities
  • Unifying the North against Nilfgaard (except everyone wants Ciri for themselves)
  • Elves vs humans

Yeah, creative differences. Doesn't necessarily speak to the writers hating the source material, but doesn't speak well to the production in general

We just finished the first part of season 3 last night and thought it was incredibly choppy and disconnected. There were numerous times where some of the most interesting things took place off camera, and were just referenced by the characters on screen which made this first part seem more dialogue-focused and really more bland than I remember. The creative license used in the final episode did not work for me, and became more annoying than Shyamalanian. I like the Wild Hunt storyline, and was expecting more. I hope the second part delivers.

The green screen in this season has been very noticeable. There have been some really bad sections.

As mentioned, there does seem to be a lot of choppy jumps too. It feels like things were filmed and then cut with the way some of it plays out.

It hasn't been a terrible first half, but it's definitely not great. Especially knowing Cavill is leaving, he's the best thing about the show

He IS the show! I don't know how you have a show called The Witcher without actually having the Witcher. I love that he is super into it...someone that is that vested in the show/source material and is the title character? He's outstanding in the role.

Yeah, there have been really only 3 standout things from this season for me: Cavill, the fight scenes (although it needed more!), and the costumes/wardrobe. Everything else has just been meh for me including the overall flow of the season. Sort of a letdown from previous seasons. Maybe the second half will make up for it.

Yeah this has not been a great start to the season. The green screen during the horseback chase scene was so distracting and the constant looking back at the clouds had me confused as hell...took way too long to realize what I was supposed to be looking at.

The last episode felt like some sort of weird Death on the Nile/Glass Onion thing where you see what other people are supposed to see then wait...rewind and lets see what actually happened. Which may not have been terrible if it was intelligently done or at least just one small part of the episode rather than the entire thing.

Feels like dumb writers trying to be clever. I can imagine Cavill was pulling his hair out filming this season.
