Gets me every dang time. Yes I know this isn't the original, but this tribute album is usually in heavy rotation in our house. We're big Shel S. fans.
Came here to post Nutshell, that version in particular. The music, the lyrics, his voice, all of it. I listen to it on a regular basis and it hits me every time. One of my favorite songs of all time.Max Power said:
When the piano kicks in during this song it just does something. This album came out when I was at A&M and to this day it just makes me sad, it's a beautiful song. It takes me back and not in a good way. I didn't know I was battling actual depression until much later in life. I can remember riding around CS listening to this song wishing I knew wtf was wrong with me.
This entire album qualifies, but these two in particular are a gut punch both for the songs themselves and knowing Layne was die shortly thereafter.
You have great tastes on all three counts. Moby's "Porcelain" and that entire album makes me feel great except for "Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad?" which I love so much but it's also a wrecker.Max Power said:

Wow. We had TAPS played last week with a 21-gun salute at my grandfather's funeral and I've been gifted his Aggie ring '50. But my cousins and I ended the burial with singing "The Spirit of Aggieland" next to his casket. We sounded like the worst choir of all time but yeah, doesn't sound stupid at all.Duckhook said:
This might sound stupid, but...
The last song that was played at my dad's funeral service was The Spirit of Aggieland. It doesn't destroy me, but I can tear up a little every time I hear it. Had to sing it loud at my daughter's graduation (after dad passed) to keep from bawling like a baby. Thinking about him and wishing he could have been there to see his granddaughter graduate.
Here's 3 generations of Aggie rings.
No doubt.Eliminatus said:
I have no connection to this event but this song still makes me somber. Gordon Lightfoot does a spectacular job with this.
