Still can't believe how such an awesome show totally effed up the ending.

For me, it sucks that two of my favorite things (Star Wars and GoT) so badly bungled their endings.

I still love both overall, but it will always make me a bit sad.

I agree, Revenge of the Sith was TERRIBLE.

Are you actually denying the existence of the Sequel Trilogy?

Absolutely not, they are my 4th, 5th, and 7th favorite Star Wars movies!

A bunch of upsets going on in the Round of 32 by the way.

My hopes went down faster than Viserion.

A #2 and two #3s in jeopardy.

That gif reminds me that there are nerds in this world so vastly beyond my nerd level that it's not even close.

Yeah. Doesn't matter how many fantasy books you read or games you play...

Just go to a Star Wars or Comic convention and look around

I'm surprised the result of the below matchups wasn't closer. That scene of Drogon in the pit was awesome.

#7 Drogon saves Dany from the Sons of the Harpy vs. #10 Sansa kills Ramsay with his own dogs 29%-71%

Also, the below matchups in the next round are brutal.

#2 The Stark bannermen take up the cry for Jon Snow, the KING IN THE NORTH! vs. #7 Grenn and his men hold the gate against the giant while reciting their oath

#3 Rickon's death / Jon vs. the Bolton Army vs. #6 Dany unleashes the Unsullied and Drogon on the Wise Masters

Personally, I don't get the love for Rickon's death. Sure, the shot of Jon drawing his sword as the Bolton army charges is great. However, it's the result of him being an idiot (and Rickon not zig zagging).
The Dog Lord

Yeah that one is more so about the shot of Jon as they charge him than Rickon. Was just a great shot. Doesn't hold up to the entire Dracarys scene, but it was still good.

If this was a double elimination, the loser of this one would have a shot of fighting their way out of the losers bracket.

This moment is an all-timer, sad to see it go early.

I wonder if it's because it was thrown together with the death of Rickon? Wonder why those two were included together, yet the Red Wedding was split into smaller scenes.

That said, Dany and baby Drogon taking out the masters is still fantastic.

The hardest part of this tournament for me has been trying to separate awesome gif moments vs impacts/implications on the story. I haven't been consistent with it at all.
Brian Earl Spilner

AG
Yeah, similarly for me.

For example, this is an amazingly shot cinematic moment, but story-wise, it's a little over-the-top with the last second save by his wildling army who we somehow never hear riding up, and Jon is somehow not trampled to death.

Tyrion's trial is amazing from an acting perspective, and for that reason alone belongs in the discussion.

Jon killing a White Walker with Longclaw had huge implications story-wise, and that's why I rate that one highly.

And so on. I rate each moment on its own curve, I suppose.

And that's why the result below was so tough for me:

Quote:

#1 The Viper vs. The Mountain vs. #9 Tower of Joy flashback: R+L = J 93%-7%
Viper vs Mountain is an amazing scene for its shock value, as well as the fantastic choreography.

But Tower of Joy scene is amazing for story reasons, not to mention the superb score that accompanies it. And that transition from Baby Jon to Adult Jon is masterful.

Two entirely different scorecards, so it makes it really hard to choose one over the other. I'm honestly surprised it was so lopsided.

I voted for "Promise me, Ned. Promise me." I was also surprised how lopsided it was. That was a huge moment in the show.

Because Rickon's death led immediately into Jon standing there with the whole cavalry charging at him. But I couldn't call "The Battle of the Basterds" a moment either because it had multiple memorable parts. and they were all broken down in the group phase - Jon knocking out Ramsey, the Knights of the Vale arriving, Jon crushed under the pile of bodies, Tormund gnawing off Karstark's ear, etc.

The Red Wedding is a sequence of events over 10-20 minutes of screen time with multiple substantial characters involved - Robb, Catelyn, Roose, Walder, Edmure, Greatjon, plus Arya and the Hound and Grey Wind all outside.

That's my interpretation. Flame on.

Fair enough.

I consider that entire Red Wedding sequence as a single "moment", just like the Sept wildfire scene, both of which are pretty long, so I see your point.

There's no easy way to define it.

I was on the losing end of that lopsided vote also, but recognize it was a moment built up to and anticipated by many

Another thing for me was how great the Viper vs. Mountain scene was in terms of bringing a great part of the books to the screen.

I was probably skewed in this tourney to moments that I liked both from the books (when available) and the show.

I don't get the love for the Stark bannermen and KING OF THE NORTH..... and I'm ZJS.

Not with everything else being action oriented.

Dany torching the masters was so much more jaw dropping I guess and memorable - but I do have an obsession with my aunt so maybe I'm biased.

Same. I felt the Robb Stark one was much more impactful as a moment overall.

Flash back to June 2011. I hadn't read the books at this point, but we're all in on the show. It's appointment watching on Sundays.

Ned has confessed. I'm thinking, "That's Sean Bean. He's THE name on this show. There's no way they are going to kill off the only name on the show. How is Ned going to get out of this?"

Then he was beheaded, and I'm picking my jaw up off the floor. The rules are clearly different for this show. I have to read the books now.

Seminal GOT moment for me.
