I don't get the love for the Stark bannermen and KING OF THE NORTH..... and I'm ZJS.

Not with everything else being action oriented.

Dany torching the masters was so much more jaw dropping I guess and memorable - but I do have an obsession with my aunt so maybe I'm biased.

Dany's moment is how we hooked my dad on watching and reading the books, and is the very best moment of her timeline.

As a book reader first, Jon's moment where he's revealed as the baby and it bleeds into him being name King of the North is the culmination of so many plot strands and hopes and expectations.

It is the very best thing event for me that goes beyond the books.

I just watched it on YouTube and it's still so powerful and such great acting. Young Lady Mormont is so impressive in her delivery. Showcasing Lord Manderly, one of my favorite minor book characters and getting such a great performance from that actor, and building the swell of momentum along with the music is just fantastic. Plus you get the quick cuts to Littlefinger getting more and more uncomfortable that someone who trusts him about the length of his little finger is about to be put in charge. And seeing Sansa smiling throughout but then that glimmer of "wait, what about me? "right at the end is great.

And Jon rising from the table at the end. We know, even if he still doesn't, that he's the son of a prince who by all accounts would have been an amazing king. That's pretty bad-ass.

In hindsight, it was the last truly great moment of the show for me. I loved a ton of what happened in Season 7, especially with my boy Beric Dondarion getting so much love down the stretch, but it's one of the last moments that was all about character and music instead of dragons and ol' Blue Eyes and magicks.

In a lot of cases I prefer the less action oriented moments like Jon going from a ******* to being named King in the North, but there are a few more eventful moments (Dracarys on the masters, Cersei blowing up the sept, etc.) that are just so well done that they win out over some of the others.

My favorite part of that Longclaw scene was that the Magnar of Thenn had been up Jon's ass the whole time he was in Hardhome, but as soon as that Walker shows up, he drops the attitude, tells Jon to get the dragon glass, and goes right at him.

That's the kind of bad-ass stuff that made those seasons so great. Kinda like another of my favorite all-time moments, when Alliser Thorne goes from total D*bag to bad-ass with his battle cry before the Wildings hit Castle Black. Guys might be *******s but when the sheet hits the fan, they are warriors first.

Because it's a huge character moment and gets him a giant step closer to [what we thought was] the character's endpoint on the Iron Throne?

In context with the R+L = JS reveal it has more impact - but in this poll we are asked to exclude that as it was a separate moment.

Don't get me wrong I love the scene, I just love Dany's more.

In the moment yes it was huge but considering what came after for Jon - well all of that and then he just walks away from the north??? We have different context now for some stuff because of what came after. And had he ascended to the iron throne then I would view it differently I think.

It's no big deal though just surprised it made it this far.

He didn't. He walked to the North. Literally and figuratively.

And right past it.

As I recall "the North" is the area south of the wall. Beyond the wall is "Beyond the Wall".

So he walked away from The North by continuing to walk north.

But that requires the planet they are on to have north and south pole. Maybe it has an east west one, maybe it is flat and beyond the wall is the ice that keepa the water from. Flowing off the side

Yea the best non-action oriented scene got knocked out by the Viper vs. Mountain scene, (Jaime tells Brienne the whole story of killing Aerys).

I have a feeling if it were not seeded how it was and matched up against some of the other remaining scenes, then it would still be around.

So much of Game of Thrones is what-ifs, but what would have happened if Oberyn had won the fight and not died first? Tyrion would be innocent of regicide, but then what? His father and his sister both hate his guts. It's not like he was just going to head back to his quarters or to Casterly Rock and everything would be A-OK.

HUGE impact.

Well Tywin would presumably be alive. Tyrion would not have been held still and released by Jaime to go up and kill him. But also Tyrion does not end up in Essos with Jorah and thus Dany doesn't succeed without their guidance and she ends up dead in Essos most likely.

No Dorne rebellion so no death of Myrcella.

Presumably Oberyn might continue his vengeance and try to kill Tywin himself because he was the one that ordered The Mountain to kill his wife and children. So that might have been interesting. But let's assume he never gets that chance or doesn't succeed.

Baelish and Roose Bolton would likely not try to undermine Tywin while he lived and thus Sansa stays in the Vale and marries Robyn to align the Vale and Winterfell.

Without the Tyrells revolting Tommen marries Maergery and with Cersei not in control Tywin has the ability to groom him as a "'good" king at least better than the crazy Cersei did.

And Cersei either caves to marrying Loras or is further minimized by her father.

With Sansa in the Vale when Arya returns she kills the Freys and returns north to find Winterfell abandoned. Jon shows up but not having fought the Boltons he is just there. They summon Sansa and the Vale and they restore the North under some joint rule only to be wiped out by the army of the dead because there is no one to bring KL forces in and there is no unsullied or dragons to help.

KL and all of Westeros is wiped out by the army of the dead and the NK wins.

I think any scenario where Tywin survives would equal a united Westeros front against the White Walkers. He would have made peace with Dany to stop them once he understood they were real.

On the flip side, with Varys always saying he was doing things for the good of the realm, he likely would have found a way to get Oberyn in to murder Tywin. Tywin was always the biggest threat to Dany's return to power.

Night King raising the dead at Hardhome is cool and all, but kind of an odd one to make the final.

As I said though I don't think Dany makes it to Westeros without Tyrion. There were several scenarios in which he advised her and probably kept her alive.

Plus it took not just a plea but bringing an undead zombie to KL to get them on board but again without Tyrion no dragons and no undead hostage. KL would continue to scoff at the idea that there was an undead army until it was too late.

United Westeros makes no difference without dragons and the Unsullied.

BUT you are right about Varys - as I said Oberyn would go after Tywin so no guarantee he survives anyway. And if he dies Cersei goes after Tyrion again no doubt so it's possible Tyrion flees to Essos then.

Anyway interesting hypothetical.

What was your final 2?

Problem is for most people it's more of the big epic moments taken as a whole not broken down.

So the top 2 imho are

Red Wedding
Battle of the *******s

I enjoyed your tourney but it is kinda interesting because some are HUGE moments or full battle s and some are smaller person things. Hard to compare.

Might be interesting to see 4 different groupings:

Best battle:
Hardhome
KL
Winterfell
*******s
Blackwater
Gold Road
Mereen
The Wall
etc.

Best hand to hand combat scene (one v one, or one vs many):
Viper vs Mountain
Sir Arthur Dayne vs Ned Stark and other knights
Cleganebowl
Jon Snow vs Ramsay
Brienne vs The Hound
Arya vs the Waif
Ned vs Jaime
Bronn vs Vale knight Egen (moon door)
Arya vs Brienne training fight
Jon Snow vs Karl Tanner
Jorah vs Daznak pit fighters
Syrio Ferel vs. Meryn Trant and kingsguard
The Hound vs. Beric Dondarrion et al - Beric brought back to life
Allister Thorne vs. Tormund
Jon vs Magnar of thenn
Brienne vs loras tyrell
etc.

Best speeches:
The King in the North
Tyrions trial speech
Littlefingers Chaos is a Ladder
Varys speech to Tyrion - how he became a Eunuch and the Spider
Brienne's speech to Pod about why she was loyal to Renly
Aemon's speech to Jon - in retrospect he knew he was Aegon
Olenna Tyrell's speech to Jaime before she poisons herself - I want Cersei to know it was me
Ned Stark's prison speech to Varys before he died
Dany's Meereen Breaker of Chains speech
Jaime's Kingslayer speech to Brienne
Tyrion's Blackwater speech
Sansa (and Arya) before Littlefinger is executed

Other:
Red Wedding
Purple Wedding
Sept of Baelor
Dracarys
Dany vs Khals
Dany gives birth to Dragons
Arya's revenge on the Freys
Hodor cave fight and hold the door
Death and Resurrection of Jon Snow
R + L = Jon is Aegon reveal
Viserys gets a crown of Gold
etc.

However you break it down and whatever you want to say about the last season this show had so many huge moments.

Would also be cool to do a best monologue/speech. Hard to judge those on the same criteria as the epic moments, but I agree with what others earlier have said that those are some of my favorite moments of the series.
