This series continues to get better and better, while Yorick continues to get worse and worse. He's just so freaking stupid. Is he this bad in the comic? Because I feel like there were a hundred different dynamics they could have gone with, each just as if not more so compelling, but without the utter annoyance.

Meanwhile, Missi Pyle as the feminazi leader is incredible. Or, at least incredibly surprising, since her most notable roles are for Galaxy Quest...

... and the Nancy Grace-esque character from Gone Girl...



But here, she's totally different than any of those characters, showing a ton of range. Really impressive.

When that van chick went missing, i walked on the living room and saw my girlfriend watch Nancy Grace.

Yes. Yorick is like that in the books. I'm actually going through the trades again for fun in between episodes. I forgot how old the "ive got to find Beth" bit gets. Still, it's awesome and I enjoy his character even if he is a whiner.

Yorick is getting better in that he's at least gaining some agency. He is dumb tho, but that seems to be on purpose: the scene where he tries to help 355 and have her get some rest, but she then blows up on him… how hard would it have been for him to tell her if she's serious about keeping them safe then she should rest and regain some focus.

Dr. Mann is growing on me though. And Sam is one of the better characters, which makes me worry he's going to die

Yay , back to the terrible ass caricatures of Republicans. I could go without the entire DC storyline. And what, Yoricks ex gf is an anarchist or something?

I'm not the biggest fan of the current Republican establishment (in real life), and the filmmakers are making even me sympathize with the Republicans on this show. Which is likely not at all what they intended, but President Diane Lane is just so bad at her job. There had to be a better way to keep the Yorick secret, while still letting a few more people in on it.

That, and yeah, the ex as an anarchist is just dumb. I have zero interest in that plot line.

Didnt make the connection, but Turn on AMC is really good. Not sure on the historical accuracy for the culper ring, but I love all the spy tech they used in the show.

FX on Hulu has decided to not move forward with Season 2 for ‘Y: THE LAST MAN’.

Showrunner Eliza Clark says they are committed to finding a new home for the series.

Unfortunately the combo of major deviations from original storyline, stupid political filler containing **** caricatures, and being in development hell for so long probably made this inevitable...but damn, I expected it to get cancelled but figured it would at least get 2 or 3 seasons.

I really think this was the coup de grace.

I really dug the promo, liked the concept, and am really into the genre. But It was hard for me to get through the first 15-20 minutes of the pilot. Subtlety is a thing, and its clear that whoever produced this had no clue.

You can say things, without saying things. And this story and this medium is the perfect way of doing so...slowly. over time. comment about things, but after you slowly change the frame of what people are used to living in. This is what was great about Walking Dead in the first few seasons.

Also you can say things, without saying things and things and things and things and things and things and things and things and also these things and more things and more other things....trying to include everyones things.....but when you say them out loud, on the pilot...

It smells like stinkey cheese to the entire audience...except for my beloved E board posters in the early pages of this thread who like to judge it as a largely apolitical affair. LOL. Bless their hearts to be able to don the hazmat suit required to sit through this landfill and try to aquedately judge it on its mise-en-scene and production value standpoint.

It's just that we were hoping the caricatures would go the way of the male president, and die with him. Because that stuff wasn't prominent at all in the pilot. Turns out, they ultimately doubled down, somehow even turning someone like me off that entire plot line.

You fought a poster for 2+ pages over the gender terminology that was used on the hulu description of the show. That's a difference of ideology, not a critique of the medium. But it definitely set the stage for why you would attempt to defend a flaming turd that this has been for several weeks now.

My favorite part of the show was arguing with my girlfriend about how we would live our lives if either all the men or women died in the world.

Only interesting characters were 355, Dr. Mann (a little on the nose btw), and the feminazi's, agreed that the DC storyline should have been cut out.

My enthusiasm waned not because of the political nature of any of the plot lines, but because of how slowly things seemed to move each episode and how much time was devoted to the most boring of plot lines.

This last episode leaned really heavily into the feminazi side of things.

I thought it was the best episode so far

That was meant as more of a comment on how lackluster the other episodes have been

I have to say that the idea of a show, where all the men have died, exploring toxic masculinity seems pretty hilarious.

It does feel like so much was attempted to be shoehorned into this that the material just didn't support. Hence it taking so long to develop.

I mean it's been through development hell. Started out as a movie trilogy. That failed. Then they moved on to adapting it as a tv show (which is what it should have been from the beginning). Original show runners bailed because they had creative differences and had to bring in someone new after the pilot was made or started.

Green trying to make the show into a thesis on toxic masculinity is an interesting revelation for me. Between what he was trying to turn American Gods into and now this...I'm going to be hesitant on anything he is involved in.
