He was born in Hobbs NM but his parents came to Texas when he was a small child first to Midland for awhile then Houston. He went HS at Westfield in Houston. So he's spent most of his life in Texas

This thread had me wondering where Chris Wall was born/raised/did his early writing and recording/etc. Led me to this "bio" that had me wondering if I'd just had a stroke. After a bit I realized that it's been through the "Super Karate Monkey Death Car" translated and translated back treatment. Maybe several times.

Any guy could placed on a Stetson head wear and pretend he's a country singer, but Chris Wall structure is the actual thing, a songwriter who is aware of honky tonks and country clichs. Wall structure is alternately funny ("Something to Take" from Honky Tonk Center) and personable, relating small stories displaying that he wears his honky tonk center on his sleeve. Given birth to in Newport Seaside, CA, Wall structure was the child of a vocalist who collaborated using the Sons from the Pioneers' Bob Nolan. Wall structure also spent period at his uncle's cattle ranch, developing to love the united states a lot more than his typical surroundings. He later on relocated to Montana and started writing country tunes; he met Man Clark in 1987 and, following the two swapped tunes, Clark suggested the young vocalist to Jerry Jeff Walker, who captured his display in Jackson Opening, WY. Impressed with what he noticed, Walker invited Wall structure right down to Austin in 1988 to record with him. Following a few classes, he relocated there and released his debut tape in middle-1989. Rykodisc authorized the back-to-basics nation guitarist after hearing the tape and viewing his support slot machine for Walker. Remixed and remastered, Honky Tonk Center made an appearance in 1990. No Perspiration was released the next year. An extended hiatus preceded the discharge of Tainted Angel in 1998.

Probably doesn't fit your style but Neon Indian is from Texas, as are Midlake, Thomie, Leon Bridges, and Jesse Woods (actually played WR for A&M, oddly)
